Is this a really bad idea? (it will make me sound very vain, you are warned)

Long story short I moved to my hubby's town which is 3+ hours from my  home town and yet, despite being here, I've retained my....hairdresser.  It just works b.c I get my hair done whenever I am with my rents.  I have TRIED to find people here but honestly, every time Ive gone somewhere around here it's been a hair tragedy.

Here is my vanity part (be kind please).  I want one decent cut and color before baby bc I know I will NOT be doing things like that, or traveling from my home for a good chunk of time.  The only time I can get in is on a weekday (which happens to be a day off for me).  Am I bonkers to drive in and out of NYC, alone, 3 hours one way, for a hair appointment at 29 weeks pregnant?  Like I said, I tried to coincide this with the holidays but they were booked so I figure better to do it earlier than wait until later bc who knows.  So here is the breakdown:

I drive myself 3.5 hours in the am to NYC.  Get pampered and probably get home after a long day around 8:00pm  Solo.  Is this a terrible idea or am I being ridiculous and you would do it too.  (Lemme tell ya, this place is worth it!  LOL).  Be kind ladies, be kind.

  • Loading the player...
  • People travel longer trips than that, further along than 29 weeks, all the time.

It's just hair though. I'm far to lazy to drive that far to have my hair did.

  • Well... I still only get my hair done when I make the 9 hour plane trip back home, so no judgement here...
I would, however, probably arrange to stay over at your parent's house that day if you can? Driving for over 30 minutes at a time has really been bugging my back lately.

  • lmao @irishcurls.....you're not going to die.  true story!  i just tend to overthink things and can be pretty indecisive about dumb stuff, hence to reason to ask the internet about whether to get my hair did...thanks for hollering back ladies.  and giving me a laugh.  in hindsight, this was a pretty ridiculous post.

There are 99 different modes of transportation in and out of ny... if it's the 3.5 hr drive that worries you, couldn't you take a train?

    I'd get it done.

  • I really don't see the problem with doing the drive if that's what you want. If I were that determined, I would go by Amtrak (I'd use it as an excuse to spend the day reading), but I'm not sure that's available to you.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

  • @jaztastic don't get your panties in a bunch, didn't mean to irritate you doll.  i can see how these boards get a little testy- hormones flying.  im a FTM - so yea, I def. overthink things and yes, it is the pregnancy that makes me question my planning skills.  peace!
  • Totally go. Take the train if you can and feel like that would be easier on you. But I don't see the big deal of that length trip at 29 weeks or 38 weeks if everything is normal. I used to drive 1.5 hours or more to get into Portland when I lived in Oregon to get my hair done so I don't think its vain.

Seriously? Your condescending tone talking to Jaz (calling her doll while simultaneously telling her to unbunch panties) is already a ridiculous overreaction, but then you blame that shit on hormones? No. Just no. You posted a weird question that you personally admitted made you come off in a strange way, and when that is acknowledged you decided to throw shade at one of our beloved regs? No. I am not a fan, OP. Not a fan at all. And trust me, it's my brain speaking and not my "hormones."

  • If your that worried about a long day do it on a Friday or a Monday and make it a 2 day trip.

  • I don't think it's a big deal at 29 weeks. I would probably try to find a salon closer to where you live though. You're right that it will be hard to travel for this once the baby comes, so if you are questioning yourself now- it might be a good time to do your research and try somewhere new.

I'm confused over how being pregnant makes one doubt their planning skills. Also, FTM here too. I can plan like a mofo.

Hormones might make me cry at random times, but hell, I've got planning in the bag.

I'll repeat myself.  It turned snarky because OP turned snarky and derogatory towards Jaz.  The end.

I would like to go one fucking day without someone making FTMs look like complete gonads.

Ask a stupid question and over react. Fine. Flip your shit over looking at fish the too closely. Do what you gotta do. Make a damn a poll on what sleepers are best (that was me). Start a thread over thinking dresser widths (I'm looking at you @irishcurls).

But don't go on the defensive and blame your stupidity on being a FTM. That excuse just doesn't work because many FTMs manage to not throw all logic and reason out the window. Just own that you asked a stupid question and deal with it and stop with the FTM excuse bullshit.
Hey you liked that thread, Duck, don't lie.

I totally double checked the width of my dresser.

I'll be driving 3 hours each way to go to a spa day near my parent's house at around 32 weeks. Will probably spend the night just to space it out, but I honestly hadn't given the distance a second thought. And I won't, unless I start to feel unwell or have some sort of reason to think something is wrong.

Unless sitting that long in the car bugs you, why not?

Eta: oooooooh. Didn't see the turn this took.
  • I don't understand why going to the same stylist that you trust would be vain. Nor do I understand why being barely into the 3rd trimester would stop you. So, yeah, do it.

  • I highlight my hair blonde. Currently I have about 1 1/4 in growth (cancelled my apt last month). I'd say if you can make the trip safely & not have to pee so much on the way/sitting in the chair - GO GOR IT!! these days it's the littlest things that can make you go from crying to smiling :) and while in the city, do a little x mas shopping!

  • Ooh, holiday shopping is a great idea!

I say go, OP, and enjoy yourself if you can manage the time it takes for the trip.
