  • @TheultimateSAK, how come you hate chalkboard paint?  Does it not work as well as real chalkboards?  Because I was thinking of making myself a large chalkboard with the paint, but now I'm wondering if should suck it up and spend the money on a real one.
I just think chalkboards are messy and it's just one more thing I have to clean up after-lol It works fine. I always erase mine by using a wet sponge and not a regular chalk eraser, but they have one painted on the wall at our family center for the kids and it seems to erase well enough. I've had those on my walls for about 3 years and they still look as good as the day I painted them. The only reason I wouldn't use the paint is if you think you might want to move the chalkboard at some point. It's a textured paint, so you have to sand down the wall if you want to get rid of it. Otherwise it works well. My friend used the end of my can and painted the chalk on the glass of a a funky old picture frame to avoid this problem.
Okay.  Good to know.  Thank you.  :)

  • @stoneycakes - I use the deep cabinets for food -- but I call that my pantry. It has pull-out shelf/drawers on sliders in the bottom half, but for the top half I bought baskets that fit on the shelves. I can fit two per shelf, and then I can fit a little bit of stuff in front or behind the baskets. It wastes some space, but now I know what's where and I can get to everything (even in the back) by pulling down a basket. Heavy stuff like canned goods go in the bottom sliders. Lighter stuff like pasta and things for baking go up top in the baskets. I used this blog to help me organize my kitchen. https://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2011/08/its-here-kitchen-cabinet-tour.html
I just looked at the blog and she clearly does half of the eating and twice the cleaning that I do.  LOL.
Her pantry suplplies wouldn't feed my family of 2.5 people for a week!
I spent a stupid amount of time ogling her refrigerator and freezer.

She has a whole box dedicated to waffles in her freezer.  That's a lot of waffles.
  • Of course I'm sure we all have pinterest-worthy diaper storage. Except Stoney of course.
Oh you should have seen my pinterest-worthy storage back in the day.

  • I'm going to have to tidy up before my before pictures so you guys don't think I'm a total pig.
    Not allowed.
Seriously. I want to see how you all really live. Either I'll feel better about my chaotic existence or it will give me a serious kick in the butt to get myself together.
If I showed everyone our guest room aka the junk room, you would all judge me.
If I showed you my current bedroom you would seriously judge me.
Instead of fluff flaunting we should have closet creeping.
    That would be so embarrassing.

  • My whole house is a mess for which I would probably be judged, so I for one will be calming my chaos privately. :)

    Of course you will :)
  • Someone needs to start a mommy blog where she posts pictures of her real life messy house with no shame.  Like "Hey, look.  We're all normal.  It's called raising children."
Really? Bc I feel like the internet is overrun with these "I'm a mom and I'm not perfect" blogs.
Are there any that you like?  I feel like I see a lot of moms writing articles about the reality of motherhood, but it's rare to see a picture that isn't perfect.

I actually just read an article this morning about how those kinds of blogs are just another form of mommy wars and putting down moms who have it together. Not saying they're perfect, but saying there's no shame in saying you're a good mom.

Yeah, so many of them focus on how much love and attention they focus on their kids instead of their messy house. Like if you have a really clean house, you don't love your kid enough or something. I wish my house was neater, and I am trying really hard to keep it uncluttered and neat and form better habits. but my home will definitely never be the feature of a blog about organizing your life.

Yes this.  All of them seem to come off with the attitude of "I'm the one doing it right."

Still doesn't make me excited to show you my pantry though.

My pantry is actually in pretty good shape since my nesting seems to revolve around food this time around. I must just secretly not love A enough.

  • It took me like 5 hours of wading through my pantry tonight to find oats and vanilla.

  • If I bought anything more than 2 weeks ago, I cannot find it.  There's a black hole at the back of the pantry and it slowly envelops everything in there and pulls it towards the darkness.

Omg. Mh accuses me of that-cleaning too much and not playing with M enough. After I've worked all day and was up all night with him. Then came home to a disaster of a house which I must now clean before I cook dinner.

    Okay. Enough. Lol

It gets easier to clean AND spend time with them the older they are IMO. A likes to help me load and unload the dishwasher, she loves doing laundry, and she is obsessed with the vacuum. She won't pick up her own toys though, and usually cries like I'm torturing her.

  • Yeah, I'm not gonna be able to come up with daily tasks, but certainly take advantage of whatever opportunities you get. My personal goal is to do a good deep clean on all the rooms downstairs by the beginning of December so I can get decorations up.

  • What does everyone use for coat hangers?  I'm talking some heavy duty ones for winter coats.

I'm leaning toward getting some good wood hangers for the coats.

I have a few wooden hangers for the bigger coats, and I like them a lot.

I used to use the old wire ones from the cleaners. But when we first moved in together BM was all "we need to buy hangers" and I thought that was crazy.  She did it anyway and it is better - they are just cheap plastic ones from bed and bath or somewhere, but sturdy enough to hold coats.
Most of my current hangers are actually from Ann Taylor.  I used to work there part time organizing their shipments.  All of the suiting and dresses come in on plastic hangers, we had to remove the plastic ones and put them on wood hangers.  It was such a waste, but I ended up taking home a lot of good heavy duty plastic hangers for coats.

Can we have a weekly task?  Then we have all week to do it whenever it's convenient. We could do toy organization, pantry, fridge/freezer, linen storage, laundry area, etc.  We could even do a procrastination week, like do whatever DIY project you've been putting off. Or charity week where we purge our stuff that's still good and donate it.
