March 2015 Moms

boots!

I usally wear UGGS in the winter but now being pregnant I'm worried about slipping and falling! Any of you other mommas have a favorite brand/pair that you recommend getting? I wish my UGGS weren't so flat on the bottom because they're so warm and cozy...just not so safe! Thanks :)

Re: boots!

  • I have Emu boots, which are very similar to Uggs, but better IMO ;) I'm not sure how entirely safe they are though.

I know people who have purchased Sorel boots who love them though, they're great boots. Here's a link to their site if you want to check them out.

  • I don't have ice or snow to deal with, but I love these b.o.c. boots I got from DSW a few weeks ago. Comfy and warm with good traction so far.
  • I have two pairs of North Face boots, which I love. Both have good treads and are comfortable for walking and are warm. I've had one pair for like 3-4 years and they still are holding up well (and I wear them daily in the winter to and from work in Chicago).

  • Sorel or Merrell. Uggs are awesome for warmth but not for icy/snowy days.

  • Sorel, North Face, Merrell; all great options. Patagonia carries some great boots as well. Living in WI, the first thing I did when I saw boots hit the shelf was get a pair with awesome traction, since my usual ones are more cute than practical.
  • Thanks guys !!
  • Bean Boots from LL Bean are awesome!

  • I personally just bought traction cleats that can fit on any shoe. Much cheaper, and I am not stuck to one shoe all winter!

  • Kamik boots are super warm and have good soles. They're mid priced. The Brooklyn ones are cute. I used to work at a ski shop.
Make sure that if you are going to invest in some expensive boots this winter that you don't get them too tight, because you're feet might expand while pregnant. Some insulated boots compress after you buy them. Ask about that if you're concerned about the fit.
  • I plan on using my pair or hiking boots. They have a great sole and traction. They are a heavier pair of hiking boots and they aren't as ugly as snow boots lol so if you don't like any of the snow boots you look at you could always look at different types of boots as well :)
  • I may be biased as a New Englander, but Bean Boots are really hard to beat, and LLBean offers an amazing warranty.

I'll admit my shearling lined pair aren't as cushy as my uggs, but they're waterproof.  My unlined pair are great year-round (great in mud, snow, puddles).  I think I've had that pair for 15 years now, with no issues.  They're also super warm when paired with smartwool socks (or another heavy pair, but I'm semi obsessed with smartwool socks in the winter, as well).

Does anyone know what stores typically carry Sorel boots? I hate to buy shoes with out trying them on first.
  • Where can you buy these boots? Just any department or shoe store? Or do you need a specialty store?

Outdoor stores like Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas have them. I got mine from a small independent shoe store.

@ruemorgan‌ Nordstom has Sorels. They also sell them at some sporting goods/wear stores.

  • You could also find a pair of boots that you like at a store and then go online to actually buy them. Normally you can find them for much cheaper online.
  • @ruemorgan‌ - I bought a few pairs at Sierra Trading online last year. Better price than the same boot at REI - and there is almost always a 30-45% off coupon available.

  • I love my Sorels for and they are pretty easy on/off. I have an ankle boot style. They are so-so on warmth.

I have Ugg Adirondack high boots that are incredibly warm and comfy with even better traction - but they are a pain to take on and off. I wear them maybe once a year.
  • Also, I have to do almost all my shoe shopping on line since I wear an 11, but almost everyone offers free shipping and returns these days.
  • I have Columbia boots I really like for winter have had them for years but also bought yaktraks which you can put on your boots for additional traction- especially good for ice.
