Trying to Get Pregnant

calling crocheters, knitters, and crafters!

What kind of projects are you currently working on? With the holidays fast approaching anything special on the list of things to make? What are some things you want to make for the first time?

I started crocheting recently and I have a long list of gifts to make! I am currently making a new winter hat for DD though. I plan on learning how to line it with fleece so it is super warm. Here are some things I will be making holiday gifts...

scarf x 3
hats x 3
shawl x 1
bearded hat x 3

I am very excited to see my two bothers open their beard hats, they have a good sense of humor and live in Jackson Hole WY so the face cover will come in handy!

I want to learn to make mittens and fingerless hand covers!

  • I'm not a knitter or Crocheter but I plan on making a few wreaths for the month of December. I know I'm going to make two already. One will be an ornament wreath and the other will be a poinsettia wreath. I would also like to make a snowman wreath but I honestly don't think I will have anywhere to put it. The poinsettia wreath will have a white monogram on it with some Christmas ribbon to tie around it and the ornament wreath will just be made out of colorful ornaments using probably a Styrofoam base. I'm excited about these and I hope they turn out pretty!

  • I'm working on a full-sized quilt for my parents, so that's the only home-made present this year. Let's see if I can break the family tradition of projects not being done on time!

I also have plans for a smaller quilt for me, and then some baby blankets, both quilted and crocheted. (I'd love to do some craft shows next fall).  I love the corner to corner crochet pattern for baby blankets. Ravelry is my friend for patterns. I may have also unearthed the knitting machines this weekend...not sure when I'd fit playing with that though.

  • I sew, and last year I made about 13 stockings, but have 5 new people coming for christmas this year, so will be making a few more.  This reminds me I need to get my butt on etsy and order my fat quarters ASAP.

I have been working on a 6 foot measuring board that looks like an old fashioned ruler to put in DS room to measure his height.  This has been a super easy project and then if we ever move we can take it with us!
  • @Kellybenelly83 Camo yarn sounds awesome! My father hunts and that would be a fun hat to make!

@mouse315 A queen size quit! You are ambitious, that great!

@southernpeach89 I want to make an ornament wreath but I don't think it is going to happen this year! I think after christmas I'll buy the ornaments on sale to make for next year!

All these projects sound great! Good luck!

  • The only thing I have on my to-do list that needs to be done by Christmas is DS's Pajama pants to match DD's nightgown.  I could do an Anna cape for DD, but I'm not sure that will happen.

  • Currently I'm working on a crop sweater for myself. I meant to have it done by Thanksgiving, but I haven't had any interest in knitting for the last 2 weeks so yeeaaah not going to happen. When I'm done with that I've got 2 skeins of spud and chloe laying around that I'm going to make into a shawl for my cousin. She's hipster enough to appreciate it. Thankfully I did not commit to getting it to her by Christmas.

  • If you can knit you can crochet. However, you will most likely always love one more than than the other @mustlovererica My mother taught me to crochet and I have always preferred it even though I can knit as well. Random fact, I'm right handed but crochet left handed because my mom was left handed.

Absolutely! I love it and want it, and it is mine. Unless I get into my PhD program. In that case nothing else is getting done.

  • Mysh everyone says that, but my crochet skillz are terrible. I need someone to sit down with me and explain things step by step. Literally sat next to an old lady crocheting at the blood test clinic last week. I did not make conversation because I'm too shy, however I awkwardly stared for about 15 minutes trying to follow her movements.

Also I love that peppermint blanket and I think that it is the best thing ever.

My mother also made me do just single chains for hours before she would let me do anything else. I had so many basic scarves. But it creates muscle memory and everything else afterwards comes a lot easier.

ETA or any advice i can give him so he doesn't get frustrated? I never expected him to sign up and I think its a great hobby to have!

I love that other people knit and crochet.  I always worry its going to become a lost art.

I'm currently knitting my mom a scarf and possibly an ear warmer if I have enough yarn.  Then I'm going to knit my niece another hat because I found the squishiest pink yarn.  After that I promised my cousin a nautical blanket for a baby shower in March and the ladies at church are suppose to bring me yarn to make a white prayer shawl.  Free Yarn!!

Question - how long do you all make scarves?  I like mine really long but I'm a lot taller than my mom.  She's 5'1" so I was thinking 5'?

I love crafting. I am a preschool teacher, so my hot glue gun is always out! I don't have any holiday crafts planned yet. TB has replaced my pinterest obsession (for the time being).

OMG, I wish I had the patience to embroider shirts!  I hate trying to get things lined up properly in the hoop.

And seriously, if you can embroider, I'm sure you can sew!!  Start off small.  I started with quilting strips together.  Straight lines.  Then I made zipper pouches and pillows.  Find an easy/beginner pattern, and follow it.  You can do it!
I would like to try and make simple pillow case dresses or peasant style dresses that I can monogram or applique.  I would also like to be able to make ruffle pants/shorts for little girls and shorts/pants for little boys so I can sell matching outfits.  Right now I just make onesies or gowns (pre-made) with matching burp cloths or bibs.

Any suggestions for a starter sewing machine?

  • @kariann12 Here ya go: Willy the Fox (he is a knit, BTW) I have a crochet pattern for a child's jacket so I plan on trying to convert the pattern over. If it works and anyone is interested I'll let ya'll know.

I didn't post this one above but it is a VERY easy chevron blanket for the beginner crocheters.

I'm also considering making this snowflake throw too.

The quilt work like afghan can apparently be found in this book. I haven't bought one yet to see if it really is though.
