I just realized that my weight has been on a steady upswing and is now a number I do.not.like. Weight Watchers starts today. The good news is that DH finally decided to step on the scale. He avoids it because I know he knows he's in the same boat but it's like if he didn't see the proof, he could ignore it. Well, now he's got proof and he was fairly horrified at the number as well. This is good for me because it's much easier for me to stay on plan when he's not eating crap as well. I know I should be able to do it regardless (and I have) but it's easier this way.

Well, if they absolutely are going to check the seat no matter what... Yes, the original box is the best bet or a corrugated shipping box as close in size as possible. Make sure she's prepared for the possibility of the seat being lost (it's not like luggage always shows up, you know?) or damaged. Seriously recommend that she take the time before hand to make sure she really knows what her seat looks like (i.e. all the little pieces that would be more likely to break).
Well well. DH and I have talked about buying a bedroom set for years because we've got his old POS bed and my old POS bedroom furniture. But it's a big purchase and we've been picky on what pieces we'd need/want to fit all our crap. DH found out he was getting a bonus and kept it a secret. He knew the amount and set out on a research mission to make over our bedroom. He just called me so I could look at his proposal while on the phone with him. I love it all! And he planned to spend almost exactly within his bonus, including bedding. I'm like, majorly impressed. Now we have to clean out all our stuff and work on moving things around so we can getter done!
Oh the joys of having my MIL in town. I was informed yesterday that my husband and his brothers were apparently the most angelic toddlers in the world, ate everything that was given to them, never threw a single tantrum, and always played nicely with each other.

However his mother is uber cognizant of how difficult my boys can be and even when I ask her specific questions about his behavior as a kid she says, "oh Kathleen, I really don't want to make you feel bad answering this truthfully." At least she tries to save me from trying to figure out where exactly I went wrong.

My MIL has nothing bad to say about my DH because his middle brother was, apparently, the pits lol She used to call him a lemon. Like, to his face and around other people. When my DH was little he toddled up to her and said "Mama I not a wemon." And the story goes that she was all "No, you're not baby. Michael is the lemon."
@calikat80 considering it's probably a $100+ bathing suit new (I haven't looked, I'm just guessing) it doesn't surprise me at all that there's 6 buyers lined up. I personally wouldn't buy it for M just on principle. I don't have an issue buying her brand name stuff if I can get a decent price, but I'm talking brand names like Gap, etc. no 1 yo needs to be wearing Burberry imo.

@daffy2k you are probably right. It's the just the thought of a baby in Burberry bikini totally makes me laugh. Also given the time of year around here what is it for? A cruise? Resort wear? Or a Christmas Gift? I can only imagine the disappointment of an 18 month old opening a box of clothing for Christmas, even though I was one a baby girl who loved clothes myself.
My mom might end up being that MILyou guys talk about. She doesn't do it to me, but I can totally see her doing it if my brother and his gf get married, have kids, and one is difficult. My MIL on the other hand raised my H and she is in no way deluded to the fact that he was a terrible kid. Cute, and sweet, but mischievous and as he got older just a trouble maker. I will have to have really bad kids to even compare so she is usually pretty good at comiserating, but reminds me it could be worse.

My MIL told me that my DH was such a bad sleeper and cried so much that she shipped him to Guyana to her mother. She was pretty serious but I'm sure it wasn't that simple. DH was raised by his grandmother in Guyana for a while, not sure how long.

I was at my wits end last year with Graham's tantrums and I just asked her, with tears in my eyes, if Mike was ever like this as a kid. I KNEW the answer, and I don't know why I had a momentary lapse about him being perfect. She just honestly didn't want to tell me about his behavior because it was nothing like my crazies.
And it confirmed the genetics was all my fault, just like MY mother keeps saying. She's always saying "I can relate!" "He's just like his mother!" I have way too much confirmation in this department.
I like to think of Mike as a boring baby and my kids just have a passion for life, like their momma

Yep, $80 new on ebay. Holy bananas, I didn't really think baby bathing suits got that expensive! I just presumed even the high end stuff topped off at like $40-50.

A) there's nothing wrong with that and that doesn't mean if there IS something wrong with that, that it has anything to do with you. For real, I want to just give you a hug because I feel like you're beating yourself up. You even took what she said and gave her a pass on it. I'm not saying she's a douche but there are way better ways to not answer that question directly without it coming out like that. I don't think you deserved it, honestly.
Thanks @asmallwonder. That honestly got me a little teary. I think the last year with Graham's escape artist tendencies, climbing instincts and general "cleverness" mixed with Lo's clinginess and lack of napping has worn me down emotionally. They keep me hopping and I feel like I am getting a harder deal than some other moms kid wise, and then that makes me feel like it has to be either my kids are way tougher than most kids or I am way weaker than most moms. So either way it feels like it comes from me somehow. I'm guessing everyone has their moments of this feeling, I've just been having a lot of those moments lately.
@calikat80 I'm not trying to make you feel like you can't vent and be upset. I just felt so bad reading that I know it's easier said than done but try not to compare them to other kids. It's a black hole. FTR, the "lemon" brother in law? Cool as shit guy, handsome, successful, great parent - he's not a degenerate lol
@asmallwonder it is so hard to not compare them to other kids, especially when we all have friends with kids the same age! However I will say I notice the good AND the, er, not as good. G is for sure smart as a whip when I notice him around his peers. Like scary advanced. And Lo is the best cuddle bug ever for a 16 month old. Their good traits outweigh the more challenging traits for sure and I wouldn't change a thing. Ok maybe I'd change their shitty sleeping, but other than that...
unrelated: I am trying to rent an RV for our trip in the spring and the rental places say that driving campers 2013 and older have welded seats with u-hooks for 2 carseats. What say ye? Are they lying liars that lie?

And I would say, "just don't get pregnant again!" but seeing the boys together is so sweet and G is a fantastic big brother regardless of how he is acting as a son

Oh workinit you can potty train now! Show him how to cross the streams with Daddy! Gross? Yes. Easiest way to potty train a boy? Yes. Liam and G play cross the streams every time one has to pee. Amazingly it keeps them both on target for the bowl!
@calikat80 I know what you mean. Aiden gives us a run for our money and I have many instances of "why the hell is no other kid doing that?"
I won't say they're lying but I think they're lying lol I would ask them specifically for the make and model of their rental RVs and do some serious research. RV riding is actually very dangerous. They are not required to meet the same standards as passenger vehicles and if you watch some YouTube videos, they're very scary. They basically disintegrate on impact. Add to that, they're full of projectiles that seem secure but in a major crash or rollover, that shit is coming off, out and into you. Also, if you DO find that the RV has seats bolted to the frames with LATCH hooks, make sure those seats are forward facing. Car seats can only be installed on forward facing vehicle seats.

I think all MILs have toddler amnesia. According to mine, her two boys were perfect Angels who always slept, were healthy vegetarians, never ever ever fought with each other, and we're both reading before they were 3. Awesome.
Sometimes it's really hard not to throw it back at her that dh's older brother spent 7 years not speaking to her as an adult, but I just can't be that mean.
Up until now, Nora has only been wearing the girl equivalent of boy clothes (pants and onsies), or she's been wearing straight up boys clothes. But for Christmas, she is wearing an adorable skirt! So excited.
Here's my problem. The skirt comes with one of those diaper covers (side note- are those called bloomers??). But Nora will also be wearing tights. Do you skip the diaper cover if they are wearing tights? Or do you wear it under the tights? Or over? How does that work?
Ps- I feel so stupid even asking this! B was way easier to dress!!
