Full of crap, right?

Someone told me today that I shouldn't eat Morning Star chicken patties because they are made from soy and pregnant women can't have soy. That's a load of crap, right? I've never heard THAT one before.?

  • I've never heard that but find it odd if pregnant woment can't eat soy. I'm still trying to figure out if I should be eating peanut butter  about everyday.

  • Some women do avoid soy because of the hormones and supposed effects on a baby's development. There was something about this in Mothering Magazine a while back, I believe.

  • Hmm, soy milk has a lot of?hormones?in it but I don't know about soy burgers. ?What about soy sauce? ?Is it all the same? ?

I'm googleing my heart out here and I'm getting a lot of conflicting info.?

  • thats almost as ridiculous as people claiming soy milk makes little boys gay. EAT AWAY MAMA!

  • I've heard that you should eat soy in moderation due to the estrogen in the soy, it can affect the development in some way.

I think it's only excessive amounts of soy though that you have to worry about though, so unless you're eating 500 Morning Star chicken nuggets dipped in soymilk per day, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

  • Its because the phytoestrogens that are in soy mimic estrogen in the body- so if consumed in WAY excess I suppose in theory it could have an effect on your hormone levels.  Eating chik patties every so often is not going to hurt you, nor is drinking soy milk- I think most of this "theory" is speculative anyhow, and there hasn't been any real research done on it.  Ask your doc if you're still unsure!

    ?

Sa-weet! One Morning Star chicken sandwich coming right up!?

  • I've heard that pg women should take it easy with the soy because it is considered a phytoestrogen that may alter hormone levels. Abnormal hormone levels would affect development of the fetus.

I don't think a couple morningstar patties are enough to cause a problem though.

  • I'd heard it and asked my doc, she said it was all fine.?
  • Well if we can't have soy products then I'm screwed. I'm lactose intolerant so I can only have soy milk. My OB hasn't said that I shouldnt be having it and he is aware of the LI. As for peanut butter that someone else was worried about, I hear the only reason you should be worried about eating it is if you have nut allergies in the family. Other than that, I've been told that peanut butter is an excellent source of quick protein. Eat up girls =)
