2 hour feedings

My DS is only 8 weeks and he's to the minute of every 2 hour nursing. He only nurses one side for about 20min, I've tried offering the other but he's not interested yet. He takes 3oz by bottle from my mom when I'm at work and he's still a perfect 2 hour span. But at night he does an awesome 6 hours followed by 4.

Just trying to plan for the future, when he moves to 3 hours does he need more oz in his bottle? Around when did you LO move to 3 hours? Thanks in advance!

Re: 2 hour feedings

  • That really depends on each baby.  If we're out and about, my little guy may stretch to 2.5 hours but very rarely 3.  If we're at home together, he wants to nurse much more frequently.  Since we feed on demand and that's just what's always worked for us.  When I'm at work, he gets a bottle about every 2 - 2.5 hours.  Any time I've tried to stretch out the time between feedings, it's backfired on us.  I would suggest that you just watch for your baby's cues.

As for oz in a bottle, babies eat roughly 25oz in 24 hours. https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/  is a good resource.

  •  I would let him nurse on one side for about 10 minutes, then take him off and offer the other side. He would probably get more that way, and might stretch out his wanting to feed.
