C-sections

Did you pick

Did you pick your surgery date or was it based on your doctors schedule? With DS I ended up with a csection after a failed induction. But this time she said we would schedule it around 34 weeks. Just curious if anyone had input on the date or time.

Re: Did you pick

  • I was given the choice between 2 dates and was able to choose which one I wanted.

  • Mine was unplanned as I went into labor on my own at 39w3d. However, we did have a date on the calendar for 41 weeks for an induction with the knowledge that a c/s was probable due to a couple of issues. I was able to choose from 2 or 3 dates.

  • I asked for a specific date (I wanted to deliver on 1.11.11) and my doctor was fine with it.

  • Yes, I did.  I got to pick a date during the week from right when I turned 39 weeks until 2 days after my due date.  It was great because I got to pick a day that didn't interfere with DH's finals for school.  I also got to pick the time too which was great.

  • Yup, all 3 times and I get to pick it this time too......and yes, I get to choose the time within a 3-hour timeframe - my OB only performs scheduled c-sections in the A.M.

With ds2 and with this one, I got to pick a day of my 39th week for my c/s. Just couldn't pick a weekend. The scheduler asked me if there was a certain doctor I wanted (I have 5 in my practice) and then she told me which day that doctor was on surgery duty.

  • I had the doctor pick the date. I guess I felt that if I was going to pick the date that I was some how playing God by picking my child's birthday. So I told my doctor to pick a day and let me know. I had a first date of May 30 my due date. Then I had some pre-term labor and high blood pressure so they moved it up a week. I have not had any problems since.

  • I got to pick my date. It has a very special meaning incorporating our first born.

  • I'm actually waiting to hear from my OB as I type to see when my c-section will be scheduled.  There is only 1 OR where they do c-sections at my hospital, so he has to make sure the date and time work with both his schedule and the hospital's schedule.  He rotates being on call on weekends with 2 other docs, and his nurse said he won't schedule for the end of the week unless he is the one on call that weekend.  I'm hoping for a Wednesday anyway, but he didn't ask for my input before saying he would personally schedule the c-section.

  • My OB said anytime after the 23rd (39 weeks). I picked the 25th because it's a holiday weekend and my mom will only need to take 1 day of vacation to take care of DS.

  • EDIT: LOL! Okay, I totally misunderstood what you were saying! I thought your doctor was going to do a c/s when you were at 34 weeks!!! But now I understand that you meant you were going to schedule the c/s at 34 weeks. That makes much more sense!! I deleted my original post, because I was like "why in the world would they schedule it so early?" haha.

  • I was given a five day window. I chose a date, scheduled surgery for that date, planned childcare around that date and then my water broke and I went into labor a few days early. Best laid plans, right? Lol
