My 9.5 month old will NOT stop biting me

Hi everyone, I apologize because I know this has been discussed a million times before.  My almost 10 month old DD will not stop biting me while nursing.  This has been going on for over a month and happens at least a half dozen times a day (I SAH with her).  I have tried what seems like everything repeatedly...looking her in the eyes and saying no firmly and explaining that it hurts mommy, ending the nursing session, putting her down and walking away, giving her a cold teether before nursing, pain meds for teething, etc.  She always just goes about without any reaction.  She does it without warning and at all different times...when she's finished, when she's tired, when she's excited.  I'm getting to the end of my rope after just yelling in pain and frustration at her.  It was the first time I've ever made her cry because I scared her and I feel so terrible and cannot stop crying myself. To me, stopping nursing before at least a year was not an option, but I am so beyond frustrated that I just don't know what to do.  It is affecting me so much that I feel like I sometimes can't be around her afterwards.  I know that she doesn't mean it and she doesn't do it on purpose, but I feel as though I can only take so much.

Re: My 9.5 month old will NOT stop biting me

  • I'm in the same boat... My 10 month old son bites me all the time. I'm now pumping and feeding him bottles because it was causing me to get frustrated too and I was very anxious while nursing. No advice - just understanding!

  • It did happen to me with both babies. I had to turn off the tv, stop looking at my phone or magazines and stare at the kid the whole time, my finger ready to remove him from the breast as soon as he stopped eating. When they are latched, they physically cannot bite. So, if you remove him when he's not latched, it helps prevent.

  • @theborg7of9 is right...  during his biting fits (we got through this whenever he's about to get a new tooth and it usually lasts around a week or so), I really have to pay attention to him.  When he's unlatched, I remove him.  I used to think that maybe he wants more or to nurse longer but that's usually when he starts biting.
