Siggie test - just ignore

Re: Siggie test - just ignore

  • I've actually lost about 4-5 lbs since finding out I was pregnant; however, I started out obese according to my BMI.  I am trying hard to keep the gain under control to avoid any complications I can avoid.  On the Dr's scale, I was same at my 15 wk appointment as I was at my first appointment.  I have pretty much maintained that weight on my scale at home, so I expect close to the same when I go next week for my 19 wk appointment.

I didn't mind answering the poll, but I agree that this can be a very emotionally charged topic.  I actually cried the night I got my BFP because I was so worried that I was "too fat" to have gotten pregnant and to have a healthy pregnancy.  (I got over it quickly, especially when my doctor didn't act overly concerned about my weight.  I was just told to try to make good choices as far as food and to exercise when I could.)  It just sucks that weight can put such a burden on us during this exciting time.  (and I agree that the stress can come from both not gaining enough OR gaining too much)

  • 20 weeks and gained 11lbs. I got a little talking to from my Dr. for gaining that much already. I don't weigh myself at home because it depresses me. I've been working out and doing the elliptical for 30 mins a day.

  • I am depressed by how much weight I've gained, and by how little everyone else has gained. My pre-pregnancy weight was 136 (5'6" tall). At my first appt, the doctor said I should gain no more than 20 pounds for my entire pregnancy, and right now, at exactly 20 weeks, I have gained exactly 20 pounds. So at this rate I will be on track to gain like 60+ pounds :(
  • I lost 18 lbs my first 3 months but finally gained 1 lb this week .. I'm 15 weeks . But I'm over weight.
  • I don't mind the poll at all, but this is a pretty touchy topic for me. I was at my heaviest going into this pregnancy, but I've lost 26 pounds at 18 weeks due to HG. I'm miserable, and I struggle with feeling like I'm failing at pregnancy, yet I have people telling me "you've lost so much weight, you look great" thinking they are complimenting me. Sorry, I don't WANT to lose weight, I want to gain a healthy amount of weight and grow my baby. It makes me sad hearing those things, yet there are people in my life who continue to think it is okay to keep saying those things as "compliments."

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • Anyone who doesn't think this poll/topic is bad or unwise our damaging to their delicate body image... don't click and keep scrolling. Duh. Lol. I like seeing the variation. It's not that big of a deal. We're all different without being pregnant, there is no "normal".
That being said, I'm 18 weeks today and have gained 5 pounds. I have been seeing a dietician because I had not been gaining and had HG in my previous pregnancy so I'm glad it's working.
  • I am 17 wks and have gained 8 lbs since pregnancy. I find it funny because it feels like I've gained more than that due to my growing bump, but the scale doesn't move much! I've been very lucky that I've had no morning sickness at all so far.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I voted SS because HG has caused a weight loss of about 30 lbs at this point. I think I've finally stopped losing though.

  • Relieved to read that others have lost as well...FTM here and I was no skinny mini to start, but at 16weeks I'm down 13# thanks to the all day nausea and occasional throwing up I've experienced over the last 9 weeks! I'm sure once I actually want food again (which I'm hoping is some day SOON) that I'll pack it back on in no time! Keep on being/feeling beautiful ladies! Happy Friday!

  • As the OP of this, I'm really ready for this post to die. I had no idea it would set off this amount of controversy.

I thought the results were illuminating, but I understand others who don't think so. I've had an ED, too (long ago for me, partly because I'm older than most here), and I was struggling with understanding the pacing of weight gain, which is why I created this thing.

This thing is now a monster. Can we please let it die? Will it help if I apologize?

Is that an apology? If it is, it's a shitty one. How about agreeing this is a shitty topic for pg women.
No, not an apology. It was a request and a question.

  • I'm at exactly 20 pounds and will be 20 weeks Tuesday. The goal for twin pregnancies is 20-24 pounds by 20 weeks, so I'm right on track! :) I only gained 23 pounds total with my first and 28 with my second... So this is new for me, but I'm embracing it because I know that's what is best for my babies! :)

  • I did answer the question because it doesn't bother me personally, but i can see people's point about how it's insensitive. I've never experienced an ED/BDD issue per se (sometimes depression can cause similar feelings) but i feel for the ladies here who have. All pregnancies are different and as long as the person's doctor says they're on the right track, who are we to nitpick poundage?

Long story short, i did answer op's q, but in hindsight this was a bit shit-stirring.

    January Siggy Challenge: Fitness Fails

  • I am 16 weeks and my weight is stable...depending on what scale you use I have gained between 2 to 4 lbs.

I had pretty severe MS,  but I also have a sizable bump so I am not sure how I have only gained a few pounds. (maybe lost weight from all the MS, gained some baby weight?)

For what its worth,  I do think understanding when you typically gain weight is interesting, especially for a FTM.  I am overweight to begin with....so my fear really is gaining a larger amount then is healthy for the baby.

  • I've gained 6 pounds! I thought it was going to be so much more with all the chips I've been eating.
  • Edit- for people with genuine body image issues I am NOT suggesting anyone is shallow for being upset about changes in your body. I am just tough on myself. Because I know the weight I've gained is fine and healthy but after looking at this poll I am doubting it., which I shouldn't do. I should trust my doctor. I sincerley apologize if the "shallow" comment came off wrong. It was directed solely at me and not at anyone else

  • I'm almost 18 weeks and haven't gained weight yet. This post doesn't bother me though
  • Starting weight 110ish 5'1. Still the same.
  • So, earlier tonight I tries on a maternity sweater dress that I ordered online and got really upset/tearful with how I looked in it.

This post didn't make me feel any better about myself honestly hearing about all the people who lost weight and gained 2lbs with a starting weight being on the thinner side to begin with. I am on the high end of the poll (am not thin or at an ideal weight to begin with) and already have body image issues to begin with. I try to rationalize the fact that I am pregnant and growing a baby inside me, but this post brought up my feelings all over again.

Oh wait! I guess I shouldn't have opened it as suggested by some other posters....The name of the post is enough to trigger some of those feelings let alone what other people may have posted in it.

  • 20 weeks - gained 15lbs - but like others I think this post is pointless. We all have different body types and every woman and every pregnancy is different. I am 5"0 and have a short torso so my "bump" and weight gain was noticeably early. I absolutely love being pregnant and love my new body!
  • I chose not to enter my weight in the poll. I will say that I have been tracking my weekly weight for my husband and I to view and I have been consistently gaining 1/2 lb each week since the start of 2T. This morning when I did my weigh-in I gained 1 lb from last week. 20 weeks today and even though the gain made me nervous (years of being weight conscious) my husband was stoked! He high-fived me for it! Our bodies are doing what it takes to create healthy babies, that is all that matters.
  • I am 20 weeks today with body/weight maintenance issues to start; up 16 lbs and feeling more like an obese cow-hog every time I open this thread. (Notice that hasn't stopped me from popping in. Sigh)

  • 19 weeks with #2 and I've gained 20 pounds. I started at 5'7" and 120 lbs. I feel great though!
  • There are 568 votes, which to me, says a lot of women want to participate in this kind of poll.

Take it or leave it, no personal opinion about it but sometimes numbers talk.
  • I haven't gained any weight I've lost 20 pounds bad morning sickness
  • There are 568 votes, which to me, says a lot of women want to participate in this kind of poll.
    Yup.

I don't agree with whoever it was that said this is a "shitty topic" for pregnant women. In fact, the research suggests that the amount and speed of weight gain is one of the most important things women do in pregnancy, so this topic is of vital importance (but that doesn't mean this poll is the right way to discuss it). There's also emerging evidence that suggests that the second trimester is the key stage, which means this is when we need to be paying the most attention to our diet and exercise, keeping weight gain in the right zone for our own body types and other particulars.

BUT. That doesn't mean that it isn't a shitty topic for SOME pregnant women, and I clearly underestimated that, for which I do apologize.

Also, and you guys may think this is crazy (and some of you probably won't believe me, which is your prerogative), but I haven't seen a single discussion here about weight gain or loss. I don't read many of the individual threads, though, only the ones that look actually informative based on titles (and sometimes UO if I'm feeling punchy). So, I genuinely did not have ANY idea that this post would set this sort of a response off. It wouldn't have on the boards I usually hang out on, which admittedly have radically different cultures than this one (but much smaller numbers, so I go here for broader discussions).

Having said that, it does seem as though most people are just responding as I expected, and a small minority seem to be the ones really freaking out (although I will acknowledge that some people might have been upset and didn't post it). I'm just going to assume that the upset people are being super protective of the women to whom this post might be triggering, as opposed to feeling entitled to undue quantities of "butthurt."

    Right?
