Re: Unpopular Opinions!

  • @sympkin I know but it will void warranties. I think our 7 year old civic still has a warranty on the engine block so I don't want to void it. I'm not wasting the money on on my 13 yo hand-me-down because I'll be lucky if that thing lasts another year.

I think the picture is tacky, but don't get the "someone's mom" thing. A lot if playboy bunnies and women who get naked in movies are or will be someone's mom. How is that different?
for me, it's no different. I have the same judgment for playboy bunnies and women who get naked in movies. I would not call myself conservative, but I take issue with being a role model to your child and doing those things. Be proud of yourself and your body but don't be so classless and trashy. Don't objectify yourself any more than society already will. Self-respect is earned too, so prove to yourself that you are worth more than a retweet or a hashtag...

I didn't read the words yet. But I'm stuck on the fact that Her step dad and Bros will see these pics as well. How can she face them after that.
  • I think people should live in several states and away from their families for a bit. The whole townie thing that happens in certain parts of the country is weird- DH was a third generation townie till he moved.

When we lived in Albany it was 3 hours from DH's hometown and all of his townie friends. We lived there 4 years and not one person (of his friends) visited. We mind as well have been on the moon. I always feel a little bad because Liam is so close with our family and whenever we are going somewhere he's always like, "can I go to New York city too?!" Sorry kid, your parents live in the 01915 bubble!

  • @calikat80‌ &@steamboat123 my SIL's inlaws are like that. SIL and her husband now live in the same town as his parents. Her hubby was looking at different jobs and one of them was going to bring them more to our area (about a 5 hr drive away). SIL told me that it was unlikely they would take it because if they moved that far from her H's parents that the kids would never see those grandparents. They won't travel. At all. Which is really weird because when her husband was a kid his dad was military and they moved all over the country. They aren't even originally from there.

  • As long as you will leave your zip code I think it's nbd @mcbush, in my opinion. I know a ton of people in my own town who have never been more than a 300 km radius. They'll go snowmobiling in the mountains and maybe to the city shopping. But getting on a plane, not a chance. It's sad that so many kids will never get to experience anywhere new as children and will probably grow up with a similar mentality.

  • Also, the new common core curriculum doesn't leave room in the school year for extended weeks off at a time. Even some of my brightest kids are in tears after missing a single day. Most won't even go on field trips because they're afraid to miss class.

  • I'm not a teacher @phishgirl29‌ , but my mom is. She taught elementary school the whole time I was growing up and is now the principal of that school. She said it's absolutely astounding the amount of parents who pull their kids from school to just go on vacation. Because we live in an oilfield town, a lot of the dads' jobs are fairly busy but around March/April things come to a halt for "break up" (basically it's the thaw, all the roads are in too bad of shape for the heavy equipment to drive on them so until road bans are lifted a lot of guys barely work for 2ish months) . They tend to use this time to go on vacation so they just pull the kids out of school for 2-3 weeks and head out. There's no way missing that kind of school doesn't impact your learning.

My uo: metal hangers are awful. Plastic and metal are the worst.
All my hangers are metal hanger hand-me-downs from my parents' days of lots of dry-cleaning work clothes.  At this point in my life they work well enough and I just can't bring myself to shell out a bunch of $$ for nice hangers.

  • Our 2 boxers are from a breeder. I have no regrets either although I do support rescuing animals as well. Before we decided to go the breeder route we looked into rescuing a boxer from the local boxer rescues. We thought a boxer was the right fit for our family. We had 2 rescue cats (they have since passed) and when the rescued boxers came for home visits evey single one of them wanted to eat our cats for dinner. The rescue groips suggested we get a puppy from a breeder as it can be difficult to bring an adult dog into a home with cats and rescued puppies don't come around much since everybody wants one. When our 2 pass (which sadly may be soon as they are seniors now) we will definitely go the rescue route since we are a cat-less family now.

It's not about the shedding to me. I take issue with what they roll in and not being bathed on a daily basis. I'm not a germaphobe, but I don't want my bed to smell like an animal or urine.

I won't tell you about the time that Brando brought in a poo from outside that I discovered at 2 am :)

I really don't care what others do in their own beds but the idea of sharing my bed with any animal makes me shudder. Honestly DH is bad enough some times. I'm very proprietary about my personal space in bed. It's like, the only time someone isn't trying to hang on me. Also, the licking. I can't handle even my sweet baby boys licking me, let alone a pet. I clearly have some space and intimacy issues I guess.

+1. When we visited ILs at their old place, DHs childhood dog would come to bed with us. I hated it! She took my space every time I got up in the motn. She was a cute little Boston Terrier and I do miss her though. Well probably get another dog when the kids are old enough to help reliably.
