Re: **UO Thursday**

  • UO: I absolutely hate when anyone talks to my bump. I know that after a certain point it is recommended that you do it but its just not for me and I prob won't do it. This even includes my SO and ESPECIALLY my mom. It makes me cringe and i usually end up turning away from them so that they stop. I cringe and bare it when I'm trying not to be rude to some people but generally i stop it before it goes for too long. I just don't like it.

  • SNIP On that note, I also hate how a lot of people assume that either a) I must be unhappy that he is keeping it, or b) he must have "won the argument" over it. The insinuations that it is something we definitely must have argued about or that women would 100% not be okay with "man toys" that might be inconvenient to family life, etc. really bother me. But those are separate issues from the first part of my post I guess.
This. Yes. I also hate when people come over and talk about how I'm such a patient and kind wife for allowing H to have his collections of toys and cards. It's stupid. I don't "allow" anything- he's a grown man and I don't own his life. Plus, he's got a pretty damn impressive collection. ETA: same thing with our tv. Everyone assumes that I'm opposed to it and lost the argument or kindly gave in. No. I fucking love this 65 inch tv.
    What does YH collect?  :-/

etoille was originally getting at since I feel similarly. I do honestly find joy in cooking for friends and family or going caroling with my GS troop. There's nothing wrong with that.
I do have an issue that he addressed it to "women" rather than everyone. I want a SO who also enjoys cookie decorating and cheesy Christmas songs. By all means, demonstrate your strength and joy to others through seasonal festivities regardless of the traditions your family uses.

But only telling women to do so? That's not so much traditional as it is accepted ignorance. Keep the value, but make it inclusive rather than an exclusion.

My UO: Everyone in the tri-state area have had panic attacks all day over the 1/10th of an inch of snow we received. A. TENTH. OF. AN. INCH.
"It's going to be a rough winter, y'all!" Get over yourselves.

I can not stand Charlie Brown anything. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown Christmas.....anything Charlie Brown just bores me.

Aw, I love Charlie Brown! Reminds me of childhood. But yeah, I can see it as a little boring... I just have so much nostalgia attachment...  ;)

Me too. I even had pillow cases. My favorite one was a Lucy one that said "Learn to relax, 5 cents please". And Schroder at the piano, I adore and how they dance makes me laugh everytime.
  • I think calling the mayor calling the NY doctor a hero after his Ebola treatment was done, was ridiculous. Yes he served many with ebola in guinea but he also came back to the states and went everywhere once he came back, without being checked out first, which essentially put thousands of people at a possible risk when he seen first hand what Ebola could do. That's not heroism, that's negligence.

I agree so hard with this.

I don't like the concept of The Elf on the Shelf..shouldn't your kids be "good" because that's the way you're raising them? Why should an elf come out at Christmas just to threaten your kids into behaving because Santa is watching?. I'm watching you kid, and I'm your mom!

I do however get a kick out of seeing the creative parents place their elf in funny places..
That damn elf creeps me out!

Oh God, me too, I do NOT like them at all. I think it's funny what other people do with them but over my dead body would there be one in my house!

Yes, they should, and I think some parents use it as a cute "the Elf comes to visit during Christmas time" thing not a "he's watching you, be good" thing. We don't have one (E is too young to get that sort of thing), but I'd consider it just for fun, but would never say he is there for behavior reasons - just a visitor for our Winter celebrations. I see nothing wrong with that.

The elf used in the context you described is a fun treat for the family..I just feel I've seen it more as a scare tactic and I don't agree with that aspect of it.
There are other less creepy options that do the same thing minus the lying factor!  First of all, I hate that Elf.  He's creepy and I have one friend who always says stuff like "it's the only time of the year my kids behave because he's watching them!"  Um... maybe you should work on their behavior outside of that month of December.  They clearly know right from wrong if they are showing that when the elf is around.

Anyway, this one is rather religious based and the other alternatives are kind of hippy dippy, but I prefer the alternates to the regular.  These elves are cute, cheaper, and encourage good deeds and nice acts rather than threaten kids.  We plan to do this when the kids are old enough to get it.

ETA: Oops!  I forgot I saved the link for the non-religious elves.  These are the hippy dippy ones.  The other one had things like "let's say a prayer for a sick neighbor" and "tell someone about Jesus today!" as their suggestions.  I like the idea of baking cookies for neighbors and maybe visiting an elderly relative in the nursing home or something like that.  The religious ones are just a little too much for me.

  • @chaseyfaith or anyone lol I was just wondering. How can you tell the difference between fetal hiccups and kicks? Do they feel significantly different? What do fetal hiccups feel like?

Yeah, it's almost like a rhythmic beat.  I've seen lots of ladies here saying they're loving the hiccups.  Dude, they're horrible.  It's like having the hiccups and not being able to do a damn thing about it until the baby gets that shit under control.
