@sympkin I know but it will void warranties. I think our 7 year old civic still has a warranty on the engine block so I don't want to void it. I'm not wasting the money on on my 13 yo hand-me-down because I'll be lucky if that thing lasts another year.
If I was sick, my mom always made me go and "see how I felt" later in the day. Usually once you are there, you can rally. If I needed a MH day, she was much more forgiving. By my senior year, she would write me an excuse saying I had an appointment... She didn't include it was a hair appointment. I think I am doing just fine with that upbringing.
My parents were merciless when I was sick. It was very much a "suck it up and go" attitude. But hanging out on the set of Doogie Howser or The Wonder Years to be an extra for the day? Or a week in London? They were totally down for that.

It's not as exciting as it sounds. You hang out with a bunch of kids you don't know, a good number of whom are drunk and/or high, and there is much sitting around. Then you wait for the set teacher to doze off so you can do something fun. As soon as she dozes, some crew member shows up and hustles you to set where you stand around in the background of a scene and look like a dork. Then in my case, your scene gets edited in such a way that you never even make the final cut of the episode.
But the Doogie day was more fun. My mom's friend was in the show, and took us to eat at the 20th Century Fox commissary.
I think the picture is tacky, but don't get the "someone's mom" thing. A lot if playboy bunnies and women who get naked in movies are or will be someone's mom. How is that different?
for me, it's no different. I have the same judgment for playboy bunnies and women who get naked in movies. I would not call myself conservative, but I take issue with being a role model to your child and doing those things. Be proud of yourself and your body but don't be so classless and trashy. Don't objectify yourself any more than society already will. Self-respect is earned too, so prove to yourself that you are worth more than a retweet or a hashtag...
I didn't read the words yet. But I'm stuck on the fact that Her step dad and Bros will see these pics as well. How can she face them after that.
I think people should live in several states and away from their families for a bit. The whole townie thing that happens in certain parts of the country is weird- DH was a third generation townie till he moved.
When we lived in Albany it was 3 hours from DH's hometown and all of his townie friends. We lived there 4 years and not one person (of his friends) visited. We mind as well have been on the moon. I always feel a little bad because Liam is so close with our family and whenever we are going somewhere he's always like, "can I go to New York city too?!" Sorry kid, your parents live in the 01915 bubble!
@calikat80 &@steamboat123 my SIL's inlaws are like that. SIL and her husband now live in the same town as his parents. Her hubby was looking at different jobs and one of them was going to bring them more to our area (about a 5 hr drive away). SIL told me that it was unlikely they would take it because if they moved that far from her H's parents that the kids would never see those grandparents. They won't travel. At all. Which is really weird because when her husband was a kid his dad was military and they moved all over the country. They aren't even originally from there.
As long as you will leave your zip code I think it's nbd @mcbush, in my opinion. I know a ton of people in my own town who have never been more than a 300 km radius. They'll go snowmobiling in the mountains and maybe to the city shopping. But getting on a plane, not a chance. It's sad that so many kids will never get to experience anywhere new as children and will probably grow up with a similar mentality.
As a teacher, it's almost always the struggling kids that miss the most school. I had a student tell me today that her parents are taking her (tonight) to Ecuador for the next MONTH to visit family and can I give her work. Ummm, no. Not happening. Enjoy summer school and failing 2nd quarter.

obviously that's ridiculously short notice, but even with a ton of notice I think it's unacceptable for a student or parent to expect a teacher to spend additional time preparing work for a student who is going on vacation. Teachers are required to teach your child AT school. Not put in a ton of additional time and effort to prepare lessons a month in advance for each special circumstance.
Also, the new common core curriculum doesn't leave room in the school year for extended weeks off at a time. Even some of my brightest kids are in tears after missing a single day. Most won't even go on field trips because they're afraid to miss class.
I'm not a teacher @phishgirl29 , but my mom is. She taught elementary school the whole time I was growing up and is now the principal of that school. She said it's absolutely astounding the amount of parents who pull their kids from school to just go on vacation. Because we live in an oilfield town, a lot of the dads' jobs are fairly busy but around March/April things come to a halt for "break up" (basically it's the thaw, all the roads are in too bad of shape for the heavy equipment to drive on them so until road bans are lifted a lot of guys barely work for 2ish months) . They tend to use this time to go on vacation so they just pull the kids out of school for 2-3 weeks and head out. There's no way missing that kind of school doesn't impact your learning.
My uo: metal hangers are awful. Plastic and metal are the worst.
All my hangers are metal hanger hand-me-downs from my parents' days of lots of dry-cleaning work clothes. At this point in my life they work well enough and I just can't bring myself to shell out a bunch of $$ for nice hangers.
I don't think that's unpopular @WorkinIt dogs crave structure and love which come from order and training. That's why good adoption centers have such stringent policies (yet another reason to adopt)

You can get like 10 for $1 at the dollar store! They are so much better for your clothes and aren't a safety hazard
Shit. The more I'm thinking about it the more I am mad at my reaction to the Kim K thing. If Zac Efron was full frontal being objectified I would be all "yeah buddy" even if it was in highlights magazine.
lol @WasNotWas. Maybe when I go through my closet to give my wardrobe a serious makeover in the near future I'll upgrade my hangers.
I was in grad school for the last 7 years, and haven't had a "proper" job that I have to dress for yet (that's a seriously depressing thought at my age), and as a result no particularly nice clothes to be hanging up.
Like I said, hopefully that's changing soon. I'll let you know when I upgrade so I can put your mind at ease ;-)
Our 2 boxers are from a breeder. I have no regrets either although I do support rescuing animals as well. Before we decided to go the breeder route we looked into rescuing a boxer from the local boxer rescues. We thought a boxer was the right fit for our family. We had 2 rescue cats (they have since passed) and when the rescued boxers came for home visits evey single one of them wanted to eat our cats for dinner. The rescue groips suggested we get a puppy from a breeder as it can be difficult to bring an adult dog into a home with cats and rescued puppies don't come around much since everybody wants one. When our 2 pass (which sadly may be soon as they are seniors now) we will definitely go the rescue route since we are a cat-less family now.
It's not about the shedding to me. I take issue with what they roll in and not being bathed on a daily basis. I'm not a germaphobe, but I don't want my bed to smell like an animal or urine.
I won't tell you about the time that Brando brought in a poo from outside that I discovered at 2 am
I had a real issue with our lab sleeping in our bed. I made her an amazingly plush bed in our room (because she'd whine anywhere else) but this girl was dedicated. Shortly after she was out of the kennel and just sleeping on her bed I started to wake up with a lab right between Tyson and I. One night I couldn't sleep and I was watching tv in bed as Tyson snored away. I saw a brown head appear at the foot of the bed. She just rested her head there for a bit, waiting for a reaction. When one didn't come, she slowly brought one paw up, waited again, then the other paw, and waited. When I still didn't react (I sort of pretended to be sleeping just to see what would happen) she stealthily army crawled her way up the bed until she was practically sharing a pillow with me. It was hilarious! I kicked her out, but she did it every night. I finally gave up, but she sleeps at the foot of the bed now. I wash the duvet weekly, if not more, and she gets very regular showers. I'm not too concerned.
I regret allowing the dog to sleep in our bed simply because one if not two of the cats also does (the pup came last), and we can't ever have a pajama party/snuggle time with E because there is zero room. We are already packed like sardines!
I regret allowing any of the animals on the couch because even though I vacuum it daily, I can never get off all the fur...
my husband made us get a king sized bed just so his stupid dog could keep sleeping with us. (I really love her too, but man, the things he lets his "baby" get away with is ridiculous). But the king is amazing! We can all snuggle quite comfortably, me, Madeline, DH, and both dogs (one lab, one Shitzhu-Bichon)
I really don't care what others do in their own beds but the idea of sharing my bed with any animal makes me shudder. Honestly DH is bad enough some times. I'm very proprietary about my personal space in bed. It's like, the only time someone isn't trying to hang on me. Also, the licking. I can't handle even my sweet baby boys licking me, let alone a pet. I clearly have some space and intimacy issues I guess.

+1. When we visited ILs at their old place, DHs childhood dog would come to bed with us. I hated it! She took my space every time I got up in the motn. She was a cute little Boston Terrier and I do miss her though. Well probably get another dog when the kids are old enough to help reliably.

And I have a violent internal reaction (like pit of my stomach) when I hear someone got a dog from a breeder instead of adopted.
