Gift card fraud PSA

Hi all,
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on some organized retail crime circling the country. People are tampering visa gift cards be placing a fraudulent barcode over the original so that when you load it the funds go to another card completely (the one in the criminals' pocket). Best practice is to run your finger over the barcode. If it is not textured it's most likely fraudulent.

    I know and it makes me so sad that it's more common in the holiday season. Regular grinches they are.
    How upsetting would it be to think you got someone a generous gift only to find out the funds had been stolen.

    That makes me sad. I work in a mall, so I see a lot of that stuff during the holidays. One year, I was walking out to my car and saw a guy getting arrested. The entire hood of the cop car was covered in people's credit cards that he had stolen.

    That's terrible. People have no respect or courtesy for others these days.
    I don't know if you guys have heard about the panhandler in San Diego that was seen driving off in a Mercedes and a woman who saw this followed her to her next corner to beg on and confronted her, well the panhandler attacked the woman with a "boulder" and drove off. When authorities ran the plates they traced the registration to an apartment in my area where average rent is $2,500.
    This is why I give panhandlers food or gift cards to grocery stores.

    @amstreagle I heard about that the other day. An article I read said by the time they traced it to the apartment, they had already moved out. I wonder what their story is. Maybe she was a SAHM and the husband unexpectedly lost his job? Rude of her to attack the person that confronted her though.
