Bedtime

what time do y'all put your baby to bed for the night? I'm beginning to think our son is staying up too late but we are living with my parents while our house is being renovated and they are loud so I don't see us being able to put him to sleep any sooner.

Re: Bedtime

  • Bath/swaddle/nursing starts around 6:30. She's usually asleep anywhere from 7-8.

I'm staying at my mom's, too and she has three loud ass dogs. The Sleep Pillow app has saved A's sleep.

I have died every day waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. And all along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you a thousand more.

  • DD goes down between 6:30pm and 7pm, depending on the timing of her last nap. She sleeps until around 7:15am (but still gets up twice in the night). She's not a huge napper, so I think she potentially sleeps more at night than some other LOs might.

  • Between 8-9pm, whenever her last feed is we will start he routine about 15min prior - unless it's bath night (every other night) then we start 30min.

  • We aim for 7:30pm.

I usually BF at 6pm which starts the bedtime series of events.  Then I go take a shower, etc. while daddy plays with him and we start his bath at 6:45ish, then we do diaper and pjs, lotion, then BF again, this time with the lights off and the house quiet at around 7-7:15.  He usually is very drowsy by the end of the feeding and I take him to our bedroom, put his halo swaddle on, and lay him down in the crib, hoping for that magic "awake but drowsy", though sometimes he's totally passed out.

Here's the good part:  I get my ass in bed then too!  Yep, I go to bed at 7:45.  It's the only way I can be moderately functional the next day with a baby who gets up to eat at 1:30, 3:30, explosive poop at 4:30, hungry again at 5:30, and my alarm goes off at 6am  :)  I'm pretty much awake from 1:30am on....

  • Between 7:30-8:30, depends on when last bottle is. Usually an hour to an hour and a half after she drinks her last bottle.
  • Usually around 8-8:30. Bath, pj's, books and snuggles, nurse, occasionally more snuggles, asleep by 9:30. We were trying to put her down earlier but it made our lives wayyyyy more difficult so we're back to 9:30
  • Usually 9:30 or 10. He always takes a nap around 6 or 6:30, but wakes up around 8 or so without fail. That's when we do our bedtime routine, then feed him one more time before he goes downfor the night.

  • DD goes to bed about 930-1030 that's after her last nurse for the night and I rock her to make sure she is asleep asleep and then carry her upstairs to her bassinet. She then sleeps until 830-10.

  • Last feeding usually starts between 7:30 and 8, but sometimes she takes awhile to nurse to sleep (gasp! yes, I do that). I typically put her down in the crib around 8:30-8:45.
  • He usually goes down around 7pm.  I start his bedtime routine around 6:40-6:45 on non-bath nights, and he's usually asleep by 7:15.

He would probably go to bed at 6, but I don't want him up at 4 for the day.

  • I don't even think we have a routine. I'm sure there's a loose one.

  • Between 6:30-7 depending on when he wakes up from his last nap.
  • Between 8:30/9, it depends on how quick DS goes down. We attempt to have DS in bed by 8:30 so I change DS and put him to bed then after reading and singing for a few minutes I head out to get DD ready for bed while DH heads in with DS for a couple minutes. DD gets rocked and put down as soon as possible, she flips out if I don't sit and rock her for a few minutes before bed.

  • DH often works late, so we start our bedtime routine after he gets home so that they can spend a little time together. So she ends up falling asleep between 9 and 10 usually, and sleeps for around 4-5 hours in her bassinet. Except for last night, when the four month sleep regression started. :(

I'm still on leave, so we don't have to get up early and go anywhere in the mornings. Our mornings are thus quite lazy and she can sleep in if she needs to. Once I'm back to work the whole schedule will likely have to be pushed earlier. Ug.

  • Before the time change DS was going down between 7:30 and 8. Now we are lucky if he makes it to 6:30. We have tried to get him to make until 7-7:30, but nothing worked. So now around 5:30 we start diaper change, pajamas, stories and then I nurse him. We lay him down awake, and he babbles for a few minutes before falling asleep. He's been waking up around 11 to eat and will go back to sleep until 5:30. At 5:30 we bring him in bed with us and he usually will sleep another hour or so. All that being said, he will be four months tomorrow and I'm dreadfully anticipating the start of the sleep regression

  • It had been bedtime around 9ish after a catnap at 6ish followed by bedtime routine BUT she seems to have extended the nap out now so the 6ish sleep has become bedtime which actually works out better because it doesn't clash with DD1 any more.

She doesn't STTN yet but she does only wake for food then goes straight back to sleep after which is how we gauge what counts as her sleep as opposed to naps.
  • He's in bed by 6:30. And he's super ready at that point too. I've noticed my babies sleep longer at night the earlier they're put down to bed. This LO isn't up till 7 or 8 the next morning.

PP mentioned worrying about the upcoming 4 month sleep regression. This is my third and I never knew it existed till noticing the thread. So not every baby goes through it, at least not in a noticeable way.
  • Mine has been going down at around 6:30 lately, and getting up at 6. She was having the sleep regression but now is pretty much back to only waking up 1x to 2x per night (though she will occasionally pop up an hour or so after being put to sleep and will need to be rocked a bit).
  • We get DS ready for bed around 7:15 and once he's down, we start DD's routine.  I'm usually feeding her around 7:30.  She's an efficient nurser, so she's in her crib by 7:45.

If you're concerned about the noise, get a noise machine.  It's been a lifesaver for us.  Both kid's rooms are on the main floor of our house.  We can shut the door to the hallway of their room, but the noise machines help cover up anything else that might get through (our dogs love to bark at nothing).
  • DD goes down between 6:30-7 every night. If we wait any longer, she gets incredibly grumpy!

  • LO use to go to bed between 7:30-8 but after daylight savings I'm licking if she makes it to 6:30 without having a meltdown. The earliest we've put her down is 6:15 and she'll always sleep until about 8. Typically she'll wake 1-2 times at night for a MOTN feeding but go right back down and finally up for the day around 8-8:30. Every night is different but that's the most common senerio. On her most recent best night she's slept from 6:30-4:30 and then back down until 8:30. On her worst she's slept from 6:30-10:30 then back up at 11:30, 2, 6, and finally up at 8.
  • With DS, we start bedtime around 645-7 and he's asleep around 730. DD goes to be around 8-830.

Asleep by 8:30....bath and feeding start at 7:45...sleeps until about 4:30 or 5:30am
  • Usually dad gives her a bath around 6:30, then I bf with the lights off in her room around 7:00, she passes out after and I transfer her to her crib by 7:30. Sometimes she sleeps through the night and doesn't wake up until 6 or 7 am, and sometimes she wakes up at around 3:00am and I feed her so she can go back to sleep. More and more though she is sleeping through the night with 11 hour stretches, so that's pretty awesome. She also gets about 4 or 5 hours of naps in each day at anywhere from 30 mins to two hours each.
  • We start bedtime at around 8pm depending on what time LO wakes up from his last nap. But it seems he will not fall asleep until 10pm. I am trying to move bedtime earlier just because everyone says 10pm is too late, but it's not working. Any input would be helpful. He wakes up twice at night to nurse usually, and sometimes his reflux is acting up so I have to give him his Axid. He usually gets up between 9am-10am in the morning.

Does anyone nurse their LO to sleep at bedtime even though it may not be time to feed them? If his next feeding is at 10:30pm, can I nurse him at 9:30/10pm at bedtime instead of waiting for him to demand to eat at 10:30?

I would recommend not feeding on a schedule if you are breastfeeding. Just feed the baby whenever he will take the breast. If he isn't hungry, he will not eat.

Another early one. 6:00pm is our bedtime. Lo has to be awake by 6:00a for me to get out the door on time.

Dd #1 went to bed at the same time when she was younger. Now that she's three it's 7:00-7:30. 8:00 on weekends.

  • My baby goes to bed at 19.00 after a 10 minute bedtime routine. I give him his last bottle at 21.00 (he doesn't wake up, he finishes his bottle in his sleep).
Then he sleeps through the night and wakes up around 06.00.
  • DD goes down anywhere between 8:30-10:00 pm depending on the events that day. She STTN and is up anywhere from 7-7:30 am. Occasionally she stirs in the MOTN but she either self soothes or I get up and give her back her paci and she goes right back down.

I want your life. I'm so incredibly jealous of you.
She just turned four months. I'm sure the craziness will start soon. That or she's destine to be a terror as a toddler :-) we've had a few wonder nights too, just nothing as extreme as most of you ladies are going through. Hats off to all of you!

Edit: also, she's boycotting naps so there's that too.

This is pretty similar to us. LO typically naps on my chest on the couch (I know, I know, probably a bad idea) from 7-8 then we play, start bedtime routine then nurse to sleep. She typically goes down between 9:30-10 pm. Then she sleeps until about 7 am.

However, she just turned four months and has had one MOTN wake up the last two nights...
I'm guilty of couch napping. Did it today. Instead of the 30 min naps I'd been getting out of her, we both napped for 2 1/2 hours. It was glorious.

Edited- 30 min naps in her crib.
