I can't post this on the baby names board because I will get flamed to all get out, but we found out baby is a girl last week and my DHs father passed away last week, both our dads and my DHs middle name is Stanley, if I go with a really feminine first name do you think my daughter would hate me for giving her the middle name Stanley? Opinions please

Yup. Sorry.
Ahh stuck in the quote box-- I also think that maybe she would hate me, which is why I asked but because it has so much family significance its hard to not even slightly entertain it, plus this will be our last baby, so the name will not get used if we don't use it now. I am leaning more towards my grandmothers first name, which is way more girly for a middle name, but just trying to get feedback on this alternate tribute Thanks

What if you just did Lee or Leigh? Then you can tell her it is derived from Stanley. Stanley is way too masculine to put on a girl, even for a middle name. Sorry.
------quote fail------
I was just going to suggest Stanleigh but then I typed it out and realized it is ridiculous. Just plain Leigh would be way better.
Hilarious because my neighbor and I were discussing this last night and she suggested a double E instead of Ey at the end and then I wrote it out and was like now it just looks uneek and ridiculous. I think I'll go with my gut and say no this isn't going to work, but on a completely side note it is Obama's mothers name- I wonder if she hated having Stanley as a first name?
I vote for PJ. I even like the initials for a NN. We have picked Pearl Akemi for a girl and Edmund Charles for a boy. Both are a combo of family names (one from each side).
hollywoodrachel Oh that is awesome! Are you for sure having a girl? We still don't know yet, but if it is a girl it will be that. Two Lilian Louise babies born in May would be great!

It doesn't even have to be a really feminine first name! You can go with a truly gender neutral one or a girl one. You can even go with a girl name that has a boyish nickname. My daugter's name is Josephine and we call her Joey.
I have a very male first name and I really don't like it. I actually go by an unrelated nickname from my childhood because my legal name is so confusing. Not kidding, every time I change insurance, I get filed as a man. Then, when I get women's health treatments, they get declined because the insurance company thinks I'm a guy. I had the military stalking me when I was young because I didn't fill out my draft paperwork. I took a lot of effort to get them to understand that I am a girl. Ugh.
All that said, Do what works for you. It will be fine and your kids will find reasons to hate you no matter what. At least this one you could totally own.
I like Willow Grace and I love the nickname Poppy, I don't really like the name Penelope because one of the Kardashians named her child that-sorry! I just wouldn't want my child growing up with the same name as them!
Willow Grace is lovely, but makes me think of "Will and Grace" the show, and makes me giggle. Grace is such a common middle name now too, so my instinct says Penelope James all the way! Poppy as a NN for sure! I actually love Poppy as a proper first name. I love earthy hippy names.
We find out the gender as soon as my Harmony Test results come back! Can't wait. I feel like it's a boy. DH and I have our boy name decided... but I'm a little protective of it & this is about GIRLS names so I'll share what we have narrowed the girls list down to:
My initials are M.A.K., so I really want to continue the M.A. initial theme. Plus I envision a lavish girly french themed nursery with a large Marie Antoinette "MA" monogram on the wall.

Margeaux or Mazzy for the first name
Aurora or Alise for the middle name
We are in love with Margeaux too! I think it will be our girl's middle name:
Kenna Margeaux or
Vivian Margeaux are our front runners but DH still loves
Thank you ellab043 !!! I think it's a beautiful name, but every family member we have shared it with has this look on their face like "What!?" I adore Vivian! Vivian Margeaux sounds so perfect together! Olive is such a cute name too!

We got a little of this response so I quit sharing especially the spelling and the Kenna option (which we love because DH is scottish) . :-)
They will love it once she gets here no matter what. As a STM you just can't put too much stock in everyones opinion because everyone will have one and you can't please them all.

How funny! My DH is half Scottish (paternal) half Dutch (maternal)! Our boys name is celtic to the core! Which I LOVE. I'm a bit of a Francophile: so French for the girls I agree with you, I'm going to just go with what DH and I want and not worry about pleasing everyone. But still, my heart sank a little when the fam didn't love it as much as we do!
@ramy3 Thank you! We are having a very hard time deciding between the three names and DH really loves Olive although he did say if we name her Kenna he will call her kit kat which made my heart melt a little..
I posted this awhile back but for some reason I hate the Margot spelling because I always read maggot when I see it.. which is why we are thinking of going the other way. I typically not a unique spelling person but just can't deal with thinking maggot every time I see the baby's name.
We are having identical twins. If they are boys they are Mateo Santino and Marcos Steven. If they are girls they are Renata Cassandra and Reina Maria. The middles names are all family names. Dad is Mexican and mom Polish so we thought they were a good mix. I think your Willow is very sweet
Our girl nane is Mia Sawyer and the boy name is Jameson Samuel. We don't know the sex yet, but we are thinking we might keep the name a secret. I think us knowing the sex and not telling will be way too hard to keep secret.
I really like Willa as opposed to Willow. I also love the nn Poppy.
@chavez2685 I love Mia Sawyer...so pretty. My b/f nixed Mia
Our girl names is Zoie Elizabeth and boy name is John Parker. John was b/f's dad. He passed away last year. Elizabeth is a family name. I have a student in my class that spells Zoie like that and although it's not the traditional spelling I really like it and don't think it will effect pronounciation.

I'm stuck because DH wants to name a girl after his mom Maria. If it's a girl i reeeeeeealllly don't want to name her Maria.
I am in the same situation with my SO. If it is a girl, he wants to name it after his mom, Marlene. I do not care for the name. However, if it is a boy, I get to name him Aidan. He dislikes that name. We agreed that I get to name a boy, and he gets to name a girl. Now you all know how I got my username.
As for the OP, I really like Penelope. That is such a cute name. It makes me think of someone that is sweet.
we are thinking sarah elizabeth, which is boring, but will use the nickname sally. i love sally but have gotten a lot of negative reactions. i guess i would rather be fuddy duddy than trendy. her sister is annabelle.
I love the nn Poppy and had no idea it could be used with Penelope:) very cute! I don't much care for the name Willow because I think of that movie "Willow" from when I was little. We picked Thea Simone for a girl and Emmett Gray for a boy!
I really love the name Penny/Poppy but I'm not sure how I feel about Penelope. Have you thought about PJ as a nick name?
I saw a print out on Pinterest that really helped us with names. Try yelling different names, or inserting them into random sentences. Penelope are you finished with your homework? We've done that with childhood sentences or things that would even happen as they would be adults. It's really helped us X off some names on our list.
I really like the name Charlee Mae for a girl. Since the baby will be born in May. My boyfriend's dad's name is Charles so it's nice to have a strong meaning behind the name.

I can't remember who said they were thinking about Olivia, but I agree and I love it. "Livy" is so cute.
Willow is beautiful!
If it's a girl we're naming her Lyla Raine.
For boys, I really really want Riley James or Ryder James but DH nixed both of those. He likes Gavin James, but I'm not sold yet.

Boys will be Hunter Alan ( Alan is my husband's middle name)
I'm personally voting for Ariana if it is a girl because DD's name is Annabella and I just love the way they sound together.
One of my daughters is Willa, don't know if that is your style, but we get lots of compliments on her name.
So excited for Baby #4!
