Twin moms, come in!

There seems to be a twin explosion on J15, so I thought maybe we could all check in with each other?

I am still in total shock after seeing two distinct babies and heartbeats yesterday. We had no idea.

I go for a follow up Monday to determine what they are. They look to be identical for now, no sign on a separate sac, but I go for a level II ultrasound Monday so they can assess if that's true, and what type of identical they are. Very nervous, as I know the risks go up, but I am feeling cautiously excited.

What about you all?

We found out we're having twins on Monday. They are definitely fraternal. I ovulated from both ovaries.

I'm still in shock/freak out mode.

I'm having fraternal twins! Two separate sacs and one is measuring a few days further than the other. Strong heartbeats of 180 for both- still in shock! I'm 9 weeks 1 day and we actually just made it public knowledge. We were too excited to contain it

I have fraternal twin boys, they'll be 5 in December.  Like Syacoub said, it's an incredible experience.

Congrats ladies!!! My girls are mono di. One placenta two sacs. Identical :-)

Hi! I am 6w3d along with what looks like di/di twins. They are very close together though, so they might be mo/di.

Our baby A is measuring a bit behind baby B, so I'm a little concerned, but my HCG levels are looking great.

I go in for another scan on Friday to hopefully see some progress on my little peanut A! I can't wait, Friday seems sooooo far away!

@syacoub4 when were they able to tell if they were sharing a placenta? Mine are very close together, but each in there own sac.

I'm 8 weeks.  I think they are di-di, but honestly, I was so shocked, I forgot to ask!  How often do your OBs have you coming in with twins?  Mine said every 2 weeks, and I'm wondering if that is the norm?

When I was pregnant with my twins they had us going in the same a singleton pregnancy for the first trimester and most of the second. Unless you have a history or are at higher risk it seems odd to go every two weeks this early
  • Options
I think it depends on what kind of twins you have. If they are di/di I think you are treated just as a singleton for awhile. We have to have a level II scan to determine if we have mo/di or mo/mo on Monday. Mo/mo are very rare but very high risk, so well see a perinatologist along with an OB and have constant monitoring done. Really hoping they find the membrane on Monday :/

Went in to my midwife after some light spotting at 5 wks 4 days. I have a history of miscarriages so we were nervous. They did a pelvic exam and didn't see any blood but wanted to check my progesterone and hcg levels to be sure. They sent me to ultrasound while they were waiting for blood work results to come back and we were surprised to see twins on the screen! Never spotted again & have had intense pregnancy symptoms, but we heard about vanishing twin and we're nervous. Next appointment to check for heartbeats is Monday. I'll be 6 wks 6 days so hoping for good news.

Twins here! Total shock since they don't run in our families. How do I know what kind of twins we are having? They are in two separate sacks. We Googled it but couldn't figure it out. I will ask at my next apt but that's not till 12/4.
  • Options
I'm having twins too! Just found out yesterday. No twins run in either one of our families. 2 babies, measuring the same, 2 sacks and 2 placentas. The doctor said that he thinks they are identical ( I guess the zygote duplicated and then both implanted) but I won't be able to tell until they are born. I'm feeling very overwhelmed and shocked lol it's good to know I'm not alone on this journey! Congrats guys

2 sacs are di/di twins. Usually fraternal though I think 30% are identical. Mo/Di share a sac but they are separated by a thin membrane and they have separate amnions. Always identical. Mo/mos are the most rare and most high risk. They share everything. We are most likely mo/mo, but only 1% of twin pregnancies are. Di/di are the lowest risk :)

This is so wild! At this point, nothing will shock me!

We just found out on Thursday that it's twins, and I think the shock has mostly passed! The tech didn't say anything about identical/fraternal, but I believe they're in two separate sacs. Initially, she thought one was measuring a little bit smaller, but then they both came up with the same due date.

I was going to be followed by a high-risk practice regardless, since I take a lot of medications for my Crohn's disease and they wanted to be really particular about monitoring growth (I met with them even before we started TTC). I have my first appointment with them on Tuesday, where they'll do another ultrasound, and I'll see if they have any more information to offer then.

Twins here. For now. Very nervous because at my 8 week US, Baby B was a week behind Baby A. We will get to check on them again next Friday for our 10 week US. Was surprised when they showed us two sacs, but not shocked because we put in two blasts with IVF. I'm a FTM, and had an MC 2 years ago, so really hoping these peanuts make it.

Yes, my symptoms have been extreme.  Way worse than my first pregnancy.

Zofran and nexium got me through the first 22 weeks. I was so sick. I would def. Recommend asking your dr.s for meds.

Found out about twins at 6 wk ultrasound due to bleeding. Extreme symptoms. I'm a little concerned I've had no follow up ultrasounds and OB isn't see me until 14 wks!!

Did u find zofran gave you headaches ? Or any other side effects

We had our follow up scan on Friday, since baby A was a bit behind. They are both measuring 6w6d, and heart rate of 120 for each of them.

The tech said baby A might have been "behind" last time, b/c my bladder wasn't completely empty, and it could have altered the measurements.

Mine are Di/Di. With their heart rates and measurements being exact, does anyone know if that has any indication on whether they are identical?

@GirPipley‌ I'm having di/di twins too. My doctor said they can be either identical or fraternal but you can't tell until after they are born. (unless at they are different sexes)
  • Options
I guess we get to join the club too! Just had our ultrasound this morning and about went into shock. What is mo/di? How do I know what we have? The doctor said they will be identical and are in the same sac... Did anyone else cry? Like scared to death tears?

@bmurphy1128, same sac are identical. Mono/Di twins have a very thin membrane that separates them. Usually you don't get diagnosed as either or until a little later on. We got our momo diagnosis at 9 weeks because they do not move independently and are always intertwined. They thought they were conjoined for a bit because they absolutely never are NOT on one another. Momo twins are extremely high risk because there is no dividing membrane, but they are also very rare (only 1% of twin pregnancies). You will probably have mo/di :)

Did anyone's doctor recommend anything differently for twins than a singleton? My doctor just said see you in 4 weeks. I think she was afraid I was going to throw up...
  • Options
Mine gave me an additional prenatal because he said I need extra iron. It doesn't have as many vitamins as my other prenatal, but it has 38mg of iron and my regular prenatal has 30mg.
  • Options
I was already taking extra iron because my initial bloodwork came back with me being a little anemic (which isn't uncommon for me). However, specifically for the twins, my MFM specialist recommended more folic acid in addition to my prenatal vitamin.
