Help!!

DD is teething pretty bad. She already has a couple molars. I feel bad and I try to give teething tabs or Tylenol. However, when it's just me and her at home she doesn't let me get anything done without crying and pulling on my clothes. She tries to turn me around if I'm at the sink by pushing my leg. For the longest time I chalked it up to being her teeth but I'm beyond frustrated at this point. If I put her in the play yard with toys she good for about 5 min before she starts looking at me and whining. I try to let her cry a few min but then I give in for many reasons. 1. I don't want her to think I don't want her with me 2. I can't listen to the crying very long since it happens multiple times everyday 3. My hubby works from home a few days per week. Sitting I. Her high chair has become a nuisance because she gets distracted doing whatever it is I put in front of her( meals, coloring, etc) , instead she rubs herself on the piece btwn her legs so much that she doesn't eat. Also, another issue is that I still have to hold her to fall asleep for naps and bedtime. ( I know it's not good but that is just what has always worked) I wouldn't care if I wasn't 4 months preg and don't know what I'm gonna do when baby arrives. Any suggestions for any of these issues????

Re: Help!!

  • OMG we have the same issue with DD.  If I am within sight she is crying and walking arms out stretched towards me.  She is all over me constantly.  I do think this is a phase that a lot of babies go thru right around this age and sometime around 18 months there is a switch that goes off.  At least that is how it was for my son.  He was no where near as bad as my daughter however.  It is very annoying and I can't get anything done AT ALL, unless Im holding her.  Apparently she does this at DC as well.  Im just hoping she will grow out of it.

As for holding her while she falls asleep.....nip that in the bud now because when the new baby comes that will be an issue and it will suck.  So I would just start practicing getting her down on her own.  You have time so take it slow.  Just start putting her down drowsey, then sleepy, then awake.   Do it gradually over the course of a few weeks and it will get better.  GL!

  • DD is the same way right now. She just finished pushing through all four molars and now her incisors are almost poking through. Motrin doesn't seem to be doing much anymore, so I try my hardest to keep cold things in the freezer. I've started filling up her rubber duckies with water and freezing them. They make a mess sometimes but she seems to like those the most.

As for her crying, I just try to tune her out. babygate the walkway where the oven is so she can be in the kitchen with me but won't get hurt and sing or play with what I can. The baby gate doesn't fit to the floor so we've started rolling a ball back and forth underneith it while I clean/cook
  • Ok ladies thank you. Think I'm going to try some of these tips with fingers crossed.
  • @Ash1103 have you considered using a carrier?  When my LO is having a clingy phase I put him in our Ergo carrier on my back so I can still get things done.  He wasn't a huge fan of it at first but after 1 or 2 times he loves it.  As soon as he sees me starting to tie it on he gets excited.  He will even fall asleep in there and sometimes I can gently get him down and into his crib without waking him.
