September 2012 Moms

It's Wednesday!

What's going on everyone?!

Today is my last day of work for the week.
Yesterday was DH's birthday.  FIL did not call, text, send a card, etc.  I was so hoping he was going to surprise me this year and not be a deadbeat.
My yogurt expired last week but it still smells & tastes fine, so I'm eating it anyway.

How often do you guys wash your bathrobes?  I put mine on when I get out of the shower & put my lotion on, then walk into my bedroom to get dressed.  I only wash it when I finish a bottle of lotion, because I don't want the smells to co-mingle.  DH thinks I should be washing it every week like the sheets.  I don't see the point, if I'm already clean when I put it on for 5 minutes...

  • I am getting ready to go get more blood drawn! I just want this all to be settled.

Also, I have no clue what to get Mason for a Santa gift.

These are the only thoughts I have today lol
  • I can't get Timehop on my phone.  Apparently it's not compatible.

Does anyone happen to use a watercolor app on their phone/computer?  There's a great one that I've seen out there, but it's only for iphones, and I don't have that.  One of my girlfriends is really hard to buy for, and I wanted to turn a picture of her dog into a watercolor for Christmas.

I know that sounds lame, but trust me, for her, this would rule.

  • I've never tried time hop. It does look fun!

I can't shake this bladder infection. I called today to see if they can call me in another round of abx. I really don't want to go back in with kids in tow.

I've been doing Piyo for 2 months but have never done actual yoga. I went for the first time last night. It was...interesting. I could do without all the internal meditation and all that, but I did enjoy the actual physical part. I seriously almost fell asleep twice from just laying there. Ha!

  • I wash my robe whenever it gets spit up on, so usually once a month. I do tend to wear it on cold mornings to have my coffee and let the dog out.

  • I don't even own a bathrobe. I never really have. I like to put on lounge clothes after a shower and before getting dressed.

  • FIL came over to our house yesterday and ripped us on our cleaning skills.  I almost killed him I was so pissed off.

I don't do a robe, I just use big towels.

Okay, I know we have talked about cleaning people a million times over, but I need some advice.  Some friends of ours are offering to pay for a deep clean of our house and then assist us with paying for biweekly cleaning so that I don't have to do it all.
Is bi-weekly too much?  How often do you have your cleaning person come and what do you have them do?

@willy_gert‌ I've never had a cleaning person, but my ILs did and she came bi-weekly. She did most of the deep cleaning (vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, etc). They had to have things picked up and dishes out of the sink before she came, so she didn't do routine picking up, just the deep stuff. I think it's a good amount!

  • Ffwc, I do not wash my sheets every week.....

Bathrobe, probably once every couple weeks, but that's usually only because Jasper flips shit if I'm in the bathroom without him so after I shower, there will inevidably be a snotty cry nose that will find its way to my sleeve or shoulder.

@willy_gert‌ how generous of your friends! That's awesome :)

Bi-weekly is not too much. Any less frequent, and you might feel like it's not worth it. And geez, your FIL could pitch in if he's that concerned.

  • I have a robe and I'm pretty sure I've washed it about 4x. I wear it for like 5 minutes at a time. It doesn't smell, I'm not concerned.

@MarisaKathleen sorry about your FIL. I almost feel like him and my MIL would get along great.

I have Timehop but I always forget to look at it when my reminder pops up.

It's super cold here today and for some reason I was up 25 minutes before my alarm. I have no idea why.

I sold something on a BST site on FB and I'm corresponding with the woman through PM. A conversation about meeting up that would otherwise take 2 minutes is going on 1 hour because this lady takes forever to response. Let's wrap this shit up already.

@willy_gert what an awesome thing for you! I don't have someone come clean but I'd say biweekly might be a lot depending on what you want done. If it's laundry, dishes etc then yes but for a vaccum, dust kind of thing I would think 1x a month would be good.

  • I don't wear my bathrobe that often, so it gets washed when it looks like it needs it. I'm much more a fan of lounging around wear.

  • Those of you without bathrobes must live in warmer places.  Or actually have your heat higher than 65 in the winter....

In my dream home, I would have a towel warmer and I'd put my towel and my underwear in it everyday while I was in the shower.  It would be glorious.  My sister has one.  It's her who gave me the good idea about putting your undies in there.

  • Thanks ladies!  I am pretty excited that they offered to help us in this way!  It is a huge relief to me because I just don't have the time to do it all!  Our house is only 1100 sq feet and its all tiled, so I kind of felt like the initial deep clean might take a while/ be expensive but then biweekly would be too much.  I'm pretty good at doing laundry and dishes I'm not bad at, so maybe just once a month would be good...

  • We've been thinking about a cleaning service ourselves. We got a flyer for a free clean (after you pay for 4). Last Friday DH wasn't busy at work so he came by the house and I was doing my cleaning and he saw it literally took me most of the day and that didn't include sweeping and mopping. I was doing the monthly dusting and furniture polishing so it took longer than normal. But he finally saw what I go through to get it all done. He typically works on Fridays while I am off so I try to get it done while he's gone.

Can you cut it? I have used scissors for the day and plucked at home later. It helps my mind, though I still play it until I convince myself no one else can see it.

@tinyhumantoe I hate when that happens!

  • I'm terrible about washing things like sheets and robes. My robe gets washed if something gets on it. My sheets probably get washed once a month. We are gross. Sadly, I don't even care.

  • Speaking of cleaning ladies I hired one to come clean our bathrooms the week before B's party. I just didn't have time. I mentioned it to my mom and I could feel the judging coming from the other end of the phone.

I talked about it again last night when I picked up B. How it would be nice for someone to come once a month for the deep cleaning. Her response was smothered in judgement. "Well I worked full time and maintained a house. I think it's a dumb idea." Ok she worked FT after my brother and I were in middle school therefore we weren't home all the time and could do our own chores a that point as well. I don't think she understands how hard it is to maintain a house and work FT. I'm not discrediting being a SAHM as well. Hardest job ever but at least my laundry gets done when I'm home. I was so pissed about it.

  • I get a lot done when I'm home with the kids.  I also have really easy kids.  We got rid of our cleaning person while I was on ML because I was home and it was easy for me to do it myself.

My Mom was completely supportive of me getting a cleaning person because she lived with me for 21 years and knows how much I do not excel at certain things.  Like cleaning.  I don't mind laundry, changing the sheets, loading/unloading the dishwasher or dusting, but I hate washing the floors, decluttering and just about everything else.

I am flying through One Tree Hill, I'm addicted. Netflix is amazing.

I keep a prett clean house but I'm OCD when it comes to it. I also don't excel at floors, bathrooms etc. It take a huge chunk of my already short weekend to clean that crap while instead I could be enjoying some family time with DH and DS. I was just annoyed that she would throw the "well I did it for years and had no problem" thing in my face when she was home the whole time, not working FT.

  • I left my lunch at home on the floor in the entry way and have a meeting at lunch time :( and of course i am starving now

we have a girl that DH found on care.com come clean biweekly she does the floors (tile and hardwood and vacuums the steps rumba does the rest for me :) ), dusting,  kitchen counters, cleans the bathrooms (master and 1/2 bath.  guest depending on use) and then some ironing.

How much do you guys trust care.com? ILs usually watch the kids for is when we need it but they're not always available. Last week we were offered last minute free concert tickets, but ILs were having people over for dinner so we didn't want to have them watch the kids on top of that. I'd love to have a babysitter on standby for those times.

When I was scrambling to find a nanny last minute (before going back to work from having L) I interviewed a handful of nannies from there and they were mostly great. I would have hired one of them except I found the IHDC for much less and she is awesome.

Can you leave a coat at daycare so at least you don't have to worry about her not having one if either of you forgets it?

I could. He doesn't normally handle morning drop off on his own and is flustered. I assume when I am back to work it will be better. I will ask about what they want to do at pick up today.

  • I really liked the experience we had with care.com.  Nancy's sitter has become like family.  She loves my kids like they're hers.  Nancy was 100% potty trained after 2 days with her last week as opposed to the month we've been working on it at home.  I wouldn't hesitate to find someone on there again.  I like that there's the background check, the picture, the bio, etc.  I interviewed our sitter on the phone first, then we went over to her house and met with her and her family to see how she'd do with Nanc.

I had interviewed other people that we found on there as well and all were pretty good.  Something about who we ended up going with just clicked & thank God it did, as she's so awesome with our kids.  We're so very lucky to have her as opposed to the other wacko we had while she was going through her thyroid cancer mess last winter.

  • Also, I just had a one on one orientation for CNC.  Guy was W A S T E D.  Totally coherent, just smelled like he drank himself a whole bottle of something before coming in.  And he's in his 60s!

I do not have a lot of confidence that this guy should be working with $100K+ machinery in our labs...

Omg. I was starting my third time watching the series before we moved.

H and I were basically Nathan and Haley...minus the getting married and 17 and KU part.  But personality wise, that was our dynamic.  I get way too into it because it's so relateable.
