Re: Which Boob Is The Over Achiever?

  • For those who have BF older children, is it the same boob that's the dud? When LO was born I tried to favor my under-producer from last time to see if it could be tricked into working harder, but to no avail.

  • No idea since I don't pump. But Brooke spends pretty equal time on each...

  • I produce 2 more ozs on average on my right boob on account of the fact that I like to sleep on my stomach on my left side. I should really switch it up...

  • Mine switch around. If I had to pick one, I'd say the right is most often my over achiever, but the left likes to take over sometimes.

@meggiev123‌ with my older boys it was always my right that was the over achiever. Only this time does the left like to get in on the action.

  • Mine are much more equal the second time around, I'm shocked how different my supply is this time, it's much better this time overall.

  • When I was still trying, my right was the dud.

Spinoff on the supply question with multiple kids--those who say supply changes kid to kid--were any of you c section moms? I'm convinced that was part of the problem but I'll have another section next time.

I had c-sections both times and both times my milk came in full force on day 3. I struggled with engorgement and oversupply for the first month+.

@SPurp13‌ I hope you don't beat yourself up too much about the c-section being the issue. I think sometimes it's just how different bodies react. The LCs I saw also told me that supply tends to be higher with subsequent babies, so there's hope there too.

  • Right by a long shot, but left is getting better. I don't pump too often but i think my shields are too small. I'm going to buy bigger ones today because I start work next Wednesday and I need a bigger stash than the whooping 12 oz I have :)

Well, the section itself might not have been the issue, but I couldn't (and didn't want to) hold my baby because of pain and the stress and depression that came with it in the hospital. I think not nursing enough and not doing skin to skin was a huge issue. I still can't hold her very long and it's been a month. But I'm going to hope that if I have another baby (doubtful), I'll know to suffer through and force someone to help me hold the baby. I didn't know how important it was.

  • @SPurp13‌, recovery is usually easier with a RCS than with a C-section where you labor prior to the section. I had less pain with my second C-section.

That definitely makes sense. No matter how you feed your next baby, I hope that next time they will manage your pain better so that you can get that bonding and skin to skin time and hopefully not be so stressed!

  • Righty is my overachiever. I know this because it's the most engorged when DS sleeps a 5-hour stretch.

  • I dunno if one produces more than other ... But left is larger for sure. Makes bra hunting frustrating.

  • So it's there a way to fix the problem? I can barely pump 1 oz (if I'm lucky) out of the left and will pump 3-4 out of the right.
  • Depends on the day. Until a few days ago it was the left. Now it's the right.

  • @SPurp13‌ I've had 4 c-sections. RCS are much better than unplanned. I've BF all the kids.

DD#1 was difficult to nurse because I had no idea what to do or how. Everything was new and unknown.

DD#2 was difficult because my milk wasn't in IMMEDIATELY (obviously) and DD#2 thought she was starving (she was also my biggest) but once my milk came in it was easy.

DD#3 and DS came out knowing how to nurse... Or maybe it was because I'd been through it... Either way each time was easier than the last.
