Monday randoms!

Re: Monday randoms!

  • My mom is turning 65 this month and so far we've planned a dinner in NYC for her and she said she wanted to buy a new computer and asked us to pay for part of it as her gift. Great. Easy.

She has now changed her mind and wants to do dinner where she lives and not in the city, and she doesn't want $$ for her computer anymore - she wants us to "be more creative."

Now I'm totally pressed for time to think of a nice, sentimental gift and I have to get new dinner reservations (probably not that hard). We want to give her whatever she wants, but I wish she'd stop changing her mind already! And, for some reason she keeps only telling me all of this...and I have to relay the message to my sister. So I'm totally stuck in the middle.

I don't really mind doing any of this, I'm only stressed about not having time to buy her a nice gift. I need ideas! Anyone?

  • Good morning ladies! Hope everyone's mornings have improved :) I have been nesting like crazy this weekend. Reorganized and cleaned nearly the entire kitchen on Saturday (with help from my mom and sister, and DH came to the rescue finish at the end). We live with my MIL who is definitely a messy hoarder (confirmed going through the kitchen) and she was in a right state yesterday. I don't really care, I have GD and need to prepare and cook every meal and snack! If she wants a healthy granddaughter she can just get used to it, and perhaps be grateful for a clean kitchen that 75% of the household loves!! But no, she's just being all grumpy. Whatever. I am still tired from that 15 hour day of work but feel amazing! Yay!

  • I'm so tired. But my husband worked a double yesterday got five hours of sleep and is working doubles for the rest of the week...so I can't really complain to him. so I'll complain to you ladies!

@bookitboo, I'm so sorry, it is so hard when they are inconsolable and EVEN WORST when the husband doesn't take it well... :(

@ladyxavarian positive thoughts for your showing tonight.

My niece Madison was born over the weekend. However, she's in the NICU because she has an infection. My step sisters labor was pretty long and she got feverish etc. from the pitocin so the doctors haven't decided if its because they let her labor too long or because she got sick during labor or because baby swallowed something on way out.... :( fortunately she's looking better everyday and she weighed 7 lb 8 ounces so she looks healthy :) and even though my step sister is being discharged today they are allowing her to stay in parent room overnight in nicu so she doesn't have to leave baby at hospital :)
  • @luckylady18‌ I'm brainstorming! What kind of gifts does she like? A thoughtful gift for my mom would be a new handgun or a super cool scope.

@britb618‌ praying for baby Madison and her mommy! Hopefully she gets better soon!

@MrsDigger10‌ it was actually so bad that I didn't drop him off! I usually only take him for 2 to 3 hours to play with friends. I SAH and he was really upset so I didn't see any reason to leave him and disrupt the schools day. He was literally straining against me to shut the door so we couldn't go in. It was crazy!

  • @marvan5 My mood has improved! :D TMI warning!

So weird how one week can feel so different from the next. Like, last weekend I couldn't even think about sex, but this weekend I couldn't think of anything else. We wound up going at it hard enough to wrench my back and I spent all of Sunday walking around like a little old lady, haha. It's not much better this morning but I can walk through it (barely) and was able to get to work okay. Sigh.

In worse news, it is now no mystery as to why my GD scores were on the higher end of normal spectrum. Apparently I DO have a family history of Type 2 diabetes. Ugh. I never knew this, and only found out because I brought up the GD test with my mom last night. She was like, "Oh, yeah, no surprise there, both of your grandparents had Type 2 diabetes and I was borderline before I dropped 20 lbs." Thanks for telling me this before! :-w

Now that I know, I'll be even more careful with my diet, and once I have the baby, I will be stepping up the exercise. I am so annoyed that this was kept a secret; it could have had huge ramifications on my health!

I hope everyone has a great week and feels magically more comfortable!

HA - my mom would be so freaked out by either of these gifts.
We are considering - a nice piece of jewelry (but we feel like this is the easy way out), getting new family portraits done and doing a nice framed one for her, a new cashmere sweater (she loves cashmere), or something like that. We just want to make it special because she is super thoughtful herself and really goes out of her way for all of us, so we want to make it something nice for her 65th. But she only gave us 2 weeks notice. Grr!
  • I was already surprised that it was so easy to convince DH to let me be a mostly SAHM.  But then this weekend I had casually mentioned that my dad doesn't think I should work until January 8th like I had planned (I really think he's just being an overly worried parent, but I do have a painful, permanent brain injury from a car accident earlier this year and a couple other pre-existing conditions that do make working, particularly while pregnant, very very difficult for me.)  But when I told him, my husband replied with, "well, my work has been going so well that if you want to quit before then, you can.  You can quit whenever you want."  I completely did not expect that.  And now I'm suddenly conflicted.  It's true that his business is doing exceptionally well right now, and this is the slow season.  We certainly don't NEED the money I make from my job, which isn't very much, but it does come in handy.  I also happen to hate my job and it drains me, emotionally, physically, mentally.  I would have plenty to keep me busy.  I have a side business with a few clients a week and would also go with DH to his work, selling handmade hats and bags at farmer's markets, a few days a week to hang out and help out.  There's also a ton of work around the house to be done.  But I've always been a super frugal person and the thought that I would be missing out on that money over the next couple months stresses me out a bit. I was also looking forward to the possibility of getting a nice little christmas bonus.  But we also couldn't have a 'babymoon' because of us working opposite schedules and neither of us being able to take off time, so if I quit early we'd have enough time (and still enough money) to take a couple days away.  Ah, I don't know what to do.

  • @SheHulk723‌ I agree with pp! My job pays well but is extremely physically and emotionally draining. There are a lot of negative people there, terrible management, and I deal with a lot of strong chemicals. I was constantly getting sick and had horrible headaches every day after work. My husband had been encouraging me to quite for months, even before becoming pregnant. I finally decided to stop working early (mid sept) and actually can't believe how much better I feel. No stress, time for sleep, nesting, etc. It sounds like your job is having similar effects on you. I highly suggest stopping early if you can. It's been a bit of an adjustment financially but it's working for us :)

    Good luck!

@BookitBoo‌- I'm sorry about your little man having a meltdown this morning. My DS has his moments too and it can be so difficult to deal with, it makes me want to cry(sometimes I do!). I hope he feels better soon.

@britb618‌ - Sorry to hear that. Sending lots of good thoughts to baby Madison and her mama.

@bkmama‌ - LOL! I guess that's one of the *better* ways to throw out your back. Sorry about the GD tests, that's a bummer.

@luckylady18‌- Maybe you could get your mom some accessories to go with her new computer? Or some nice bath and body stuff from Lush or some place similar? Or a mani/pedi or massage gift certificate?

  • @namcgee: the biopsies are the worst! I am hoping you can stay somewhat comfortable today! GL!
Thanks!  It sucked last time I was pregnant and had to have the biopsy.  When someone tells you not to swallow while there is a needle in your neck, the first thing you feel the need to do is swallow!  Vocal chord analysis before surgery was quite unpleasant, too.  Camera tube through the nose to the throat while awake and viewing the whole thing on a tv screen, blah!

Jewelry! My vote is definitely jewelry!

I'm a member of the local FB group for buy/sell/trade in my town. There is one woman who is always posting listings of 'new, never worn' items. Like, if not daily, every other day. I strongly feel like she's stealing things and selling them for profit. I used to work retail so maybe loss prevention is something I'm just extra paranoid about. I don't know what to do about it -- the items aren't from the same stores (VS, Miss Me Jeans, etc.). Any thoughts or advice? Am I just being paranoid and should let it go?

  • @musicfanatic - I think I'd be excited about snow if I didn't have to commute to work in it!

In other news, let's play the "how many horrible pregnancy symptoms can I have in one day" game.  This morning, I had bad nausea, which passed. Then I got super dizzy, which I think just passed after I ate a bunch of almonds. Now my heart is racing. WTF is going on today?
  • @VioletGjoni‌ - I love those bracelets! My husband got me the baby one in silver for a girl and I love it. Didn't even think to do the birthstones, and I'm an Alex and Ani fan! Good idea.

@YaMrWhite @BabyStandish @ACH831 - I put on a maternity shirt on Friday and it didn't quite cover my entire belly at the bottom. I'm so annoyed because I also refuse to buy any more clothes.
Yea that happened here too and I immediately thought "something must be wrong!"  :((

  • ah @luckylady18 I just came on here to add the horrible symptoms and how over this pregnancy I am today.... so thanks for playing :) Honestly, I am done. And as I mentioned on the BC thread, I've decided this is the last baby...this will be number two, we will have one of each and although I'd love for them to have lots of siblings, I have a brother and that was enough growing up...and we only have three bedrooms... so there is that lol. Anyway, I'm not sure if I'm deciding that now because I am over being pregnant or if I am really 100 percent sure. But I'm telling DH to schedule the vasectomy because I don't want to be able to go back on my word!
  • @‌saiven

That makes me feel a lot better. If she's just turning a profit through good sales and stuff I don't mind at all. But it's also brand new DVD's where I know she'd get a better price if she just returned them to the store instead of selling them for $5 (unopened). I don't want to think the worst of her

And it was even from Old Navy. So disappointing. We're in the dress and leggings phase and there's still TWO MONTHS to go...
I'm sitting here at work counting down the minutes before I can go home and put on sweats and one of my husband's t-shirts. The other night I was so desperate to wear something "loose" that I wore his Holtby Caps t-shirt. I hate the Caps!!!

  • @grumpycat88‌ I have been breaking my "leggings are not pants" rule too. :)

I'm feeling a little better today. I was able to eat real food at lunch so that was a small victory.

Today was a teacher inservice day so I didn't have students and we have tomorrow off. We had an awesome catered lunch and I was happy I was able to eat it. Now I'm at my OB appointment then it's back home for a nap.

DH and I both fell asleep while watching TV / reading on our phones, and I woke up to DS (23 months) entertaining himself on the iPad. Oops. We don't even have a newborn yet - I'm a little scared of the level of exhaustion this new baby will bring.

Haha! This visual made me laugh.
    I'm super tired tonight, too.

  • Whew - I am exhausted. DH and I went to a couple of stores after work and we spent way too much money but we did get a new rug and a new house phone system (yes we still use our house phone all the time) plus a ton of stuff that I've been putting off getting because I've been too lazy to get to BJ's - oh and I did get two changing pads for the baby - one for her room and one for the living room. The good news is that it was all on a gift card so I don't feel too awful.
