So Acne... Why can't we get along?

I'm 15 weeks and 2days, and last few days I have been breaking out like CRAZY!! In odd places everywhere! My back, my chest, my neck, and of course all up and down my jaw line which started from day 1. Any advice on body wash or lotions that might help? I know this is mostly hormonal, but Gosh it just terrible. Feel free to complain also as needed. Lol

  • I just recently started breaking out at 12 weeks! What in the world?! I thought I was in the clear. No advice, just following thread.

  • Cetaphil has been really good for my skin. They have both a face wash and a body wash, I think they make a moisturizer too. I think it helps that it's such a basic formula (no scents or anything like that) and designed to be gentle on skin. Between that and cutting out my routine of wearing liquid foundation almost daily, my skin has cleared up a lot.

I do think that it can take some searching to find the right product for your skin type, which is frustrating. Don't be afraid to try a few, but you'll most likely need to try it for a couple of weeks at a time to see how your skin reacts to it.

  • I feel your pain. I woke up at exactly 14 weeks to about a thousand new whiteheads on my neck and boobs. Seriously body??? None to a thousand. I feel so gross. I started using a benzoyl peroxide scrub, clean and clear advantage I think, and it has helped tremendously.

  • My acne has always been hormonal, so I know that's the reason for my pregnancy chin and neck craters... It's not pretty.  I read yesterday (and now I can't find that study!) that androgens peak around weeks 11-13 and go down by week 20, so I'm expecting another 7 weeks of acne.  The values are higher if you're having a boy or twins. However, not everyone's skin reacts to androgen production the same way, so some women will carry girls and have acne while others will carry boys and have totally clear skin.

Do talk to your OB and/or dermatologist. BenzaClin is a safe and effective topical prescription.
  • My face has been going crazy since 8 weeks. I'm still using organic black soap and I've found that Cetaphil is great for moisturizing my face. I whipped up some body butter using organic shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamin e oil. It's not only moisturizing but I hope it's going to keep away future stretch marks too.
  • I've been struggling with this as well - it seems like as soon as I get one cleared up, two more pop up in its place!  Lately  **fingers crossed** my skin seems to have calmed down for the most part, even though it's still far from perfect.  I've been doing oil cleansing in the morning (1/3 each of castor oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil), and then in the evening I use a makeup wipe, followed by Fresh Soy Cleanser.

But yeah, this sucks and I feel all of your pain.  Hope everyone can find something that works!  I'd definitely recommend the Fresh Soy Cleanser - it's very gentle and non-drying.

  • I too am struggling! I have found charcoal soap ( from LUSH , all natural and pregnancy safe) to be very good! It at least keeps the acne at bay.

It's not perfect, but it's better!

Hope everyone is feeling well! Xo
  • I've had chronic adult acne for years now, but it has gotten worse over the last month. I'm hoping it levels off. I tried burts bees orange cleanser but saw no improvement. I'm just trying to be gentle with my skin using Cetaphil and a washcloth to make sure I get all the makeup off. Good luck everyone!

    First one :)

  • I've been using a Clean and Clear 3 pack of a face wash astringent and a moisturizer. It has been working really great for me. I've never had a problem with acne before so I kind of blindly picked a product out at wal-mart. So TBH I have no clue if it really is a good product or not just seems to be working.
  • Keeping an eye on this thread. I haven't been having huge breakouts but I'm getting random, large, painful zits in random spots. I put tea tree oil on them but I honestly don't think it's working.

Anyone have any good mask recommendations?

  • Thank you soooo much for all the advice. Will give a few a try :) gonna try to shower everynight before bed but worried about drying my skin out more than it already is, but it wld be a double bonus as the steam from the shower also helps with decongestion before bed
  • I swear by Let the Good Times Roll facial cleanser by Lush. It's all natural and has really worked to clear up my skin. My complexion has never been better since I started using it. I use Loreal Go 360 Clean cleaser at night with Aveeno Clear Complexion moisturizer. Then in the morning, in the shower, I use Let the Good Times Roll. It's moisturizing enough that I don't need to follow it with moisturizer. And it smells amazing! Anyway, that routine has worked great for me, and I've struggled with acne since I was teenager.

  • Last night I just got a facial. I had to come up with some solution to control this acne. Good Luck!!!
  • I've never had bad acne but since this whole pregnancy it seem to covered in it:/ the only thing that has helped me is oil free astringent. It's only about 2 dollars and it clears my face up really quick.
  • I look like a 15 year old boy (plus breakouts between the boobs!!  Ugh.  I am just letting it roll and using my normal Aveeno.
  • I bought the natural tea tee oil spot treatments etc. nothing worked...I was about to see a dermatologist...this DH's grandma laughed and said, "one part water one part apple cider vinegar, use it as a toner twice a day. Let it dry before putting your face cream on."

I'll be damned....my face has only had teeny tiny pimples since. It's amazing!

  • My sister also told me about apple cider vinegar with mother for digestion, healing from sickness, and for complexion. Must be the Cure All!
