I'm lurking from D14 cuz I'm super bored today...I'm just going to say all of you internet strangers who have no idea who anyone here is, just gave your personal email and now your actual real life name to a bunch of people you hardly know. On the internet.

D14 November Siggy Challenge: The feels of 3rd trimester...
Your profile has a name in it. Your profile photo has date and location image tags imbedded. An easy reverse image search reveals far more about you than you probably want an "internet stranger" like me to know.
If you want annonimity on the internet, use a randomly generated name, and a non-tagged profile photo. Maybe it's because of my day job, but trust me, TB is NOT anonymous for most of the people here claiming that is what they want.
Don't want to join FB, fine don't join, it's simple. But claiming it's for privacy purposes and then having identifiable characteristics in your profile is... Well, hilarious. I've certainly enjoyed the irony of it all ;-)
{just a friendly public service reminder to everyone here that this is a PUBLIC forum, and you should think very carefully before sharing photos in a venue like this}
It's not about being searchable in the slightest. It's about willingly handing over your identifying information to people you don't know. If you got a random email from someone asking for your social security number, would you give it? I would hope not.
I started on The Knot back in 2005, The Nest in 2006, and The Bump in 2011. In the past 9 years I have literally seen people take advantage of this kind of information. There have been countless people pretending to be who they aren't. People who created fake facebook profiles long before the term "catfish" was a household name. There has already been at least one person on this board who faked a pregnancy. How many more are on the facebook page? You have no way of knowing, but you've willing given them your first and last name and where you lived. I guess you also weren't here when July 14 found out they had a woman who faked her entire pregnancy, birth, life for over a year - they just found out recently and they've "known" her since the beginning of their pregnancies. A couple years back a woman admitted to coming on the bump and making up stories about herself/pregnancies/losses on numerous occasions as a way of seeking attention - some form of Munchhausen syndrome. I'm not comfortable with handing out my information like candy to these type people.
Facebook groups in general have been especially dangerous on The Bump, because they have become a place pedophiles like to hang out. Yup. It's happened. More than once. They join as a "member" and then look at pictures of your kids. Maybe that's cool with you. It's not okay with me. Could they be on The Bump? Sure. And I'm sure some are. But again, these are not people I want knowing my name, where my kid goes to school, etc.

The thing with this is that you're generalizing everyone using Facebook into one group of security. You can literally see nothing on my Facebook page except my profile picture, and fist and middle name (I don't even use my last name on FB). Don't be so quick to judge with internet safety. This also has no relation/similarity to giving over a SS number.
If you reverse image search almost any member on this board (using siggy pics), you can get a first name, last name, home address and phone number.

Your profile photo here has image and location tags, & comes up in reverse image search. If it's not you, fine. If it is.... Well you are not anonymous.
TB is not anonymous. My FB profile is private. No one in the FB group has any clue where my kid goes to school or even what his name is. FB has privacy settings.
This isn't my first forum experience I've seen crazy stuff on Delphi that you can't even imagine.
But, PLEASE! You are not anonymous. PM me if you want more info on how to keep yourself secure. Out of respect to you, I won't share your info publicly. But please know it's easy to get.
