WWYD Bedtime question (parenting related, obv)

Reese doesn't nap anymore--hasn't for a few weeks. Yesterday, obviously she didn't nap. We went out to a magic show last night, and got home late for her. (She fell asleep on the way home. Her normal bedtime is 7, last night it was 9pm). At the magic show she was running around like a crazy person. Fast forward to this morning when she got up at her regular time-6:30). Today we went to our local mall, which is huge sans stroller--so she walked everywhere. On the way home she fell asleep in the car--probably about 3:45.

It is now 5:45, and despite me trying to wake her up for the last hour, she is still sleeping on the couch. (TV is on, lights are on, I even put a pull up on her a few minutes ago)

Would you just call it a night and hopes that she sleeps til the morning; or actually try to force her up?

I really don't want to deal with a 4am wake up call, but she is REALLY tired.

Eh. That's a tough call. If she's truly just beat and you arent able to rouse her at all, I'd be tempted to just call it a night and let her sleep, especially if her normal bedtime is 7pm.

Or maybe try waking her one last time? Ah. It's hard to say. My kid has never slept right thru from naptime like that, so I've never really had to make that kind of call. GL!

Eta.. second thought- I kind of agree with @sterling13 here. I'd probably try to wake her at least to get some food into her.

  • I am seriously not too worried about the food aspect because she did have a fairly big lunch: hot dog, a bowl of fruit, a HUGE banana (like extra large) and then a small dish of ice cream right before she fell asleep.

I tried to wake her when I put a pull up on her---you think being contorted like that would do the trick. Nope. I brought her upstairs with the lights on, you would think being bounced around would wake her. Nope.

Either way I am royally screwed.

It's always a crap shoot. But dd fell asleep watching football at 5pm recently and although she roused when I tried to get her up for supper and when I moved her into a bed (incl. putting a pull up on), she slept until her usual time the next morning.

  • When this has happened with DS1, we let him sleep and he wakes at his normal time. Good luck!
