Who's got plans?!?!

You know, other than those crazy kids in Beantown having a big ole in person party (I want pictures, people!!!).

QOTW: Who here decorates their home for the holidays? Tell us about it! Any new décor you plan to incorporate with kiddos (present or future)? When do you start "decking your halls" for the season? :)

Re: What's up this weekend?

  • I also wish I was going to be in Boston this weekend! Alas, we will be up there in 2.5 weeks for Thanksgiving, and we just couldn't make two trips that close together work with our LO. Oh well, next time, friends! :)

Tomorrow will be low key... Target, lunch, grocery store... then some hanging out at home.

Sunday we are walking in a 5k for Alzheimer's research. My company sponsors a team every year. I am hoping the weather holds out and it isn't too cold. I can't decide if we will bring the stroller or just wear William in the carrier. Hmmm....

That's it in terms of our plans for this weekend though. Hopefully some relaxing and family snuggles will be squeezed in!

QOTW: Yes, we decorate for Christmas. We don't decorate for Thanksgiving or any other holidays though. We always put our tree up the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We have some other decorations too, but we don't always put them out every year. I think we will think year though. We need to get Will a stocking! I am super excited for all things Christmas this year, so decorating the house is on my list of things I am looking forward to! :)

  • I'm missing our live, in-person get together too!!!  I won't believe its really happening until I see pictures ;-)

Today I'm cleaning the house, doing laundry and cleaning out the car.  We'll head to pre-school around 10 and then home for hopefully a long nap for the kids. I have a work call at 2pm and it's always so hard to arrange it so I don't have "kid noise" in the background...  Tonight our friends and their 2 month old are coming for dinner.

Tomorrow is completely open. I'm sure it will be a day to catch up on homework and maybe try and tackle the leaves and weeds in the backyard.

Sunday morning we head to my in-laws for brunch. My sister-in-law is due on 11/15, so baby watch has begun.  Sunday afternoon we head to our other friends (and my business partner) for dinner and to let our two year olds play.

QOTD:  I love the holidays.  Growing up we decorated late in December, as was tradition in Germany.  We often put the tree up on X-mas eve, and decorated it. We would have gone to pick it and cut it down the weekend before.  We also celebrated St. Nicholas day and had an advent calendar.  EV and I both like to get a little more bang for our buck ;-)  Plus I love the festivities, so last December we decorated mid-December. I'm afraid to put the tree up too early in case the tree dries out before Christmas, so we'll likely wait until mid-December again this time.  I'll put our lights on the outside of the house up Early December or maybe even after Thanksgiving. We'll do stockings and a little decoration inside, but since everything needs to be kid proofed we won't go all out. Kaden makes holiday themed art at pre-school so I'm sure we'll have plenty of snowmen, etc. about.
  • It is a crazy weekend. We have the kids' friend all weekend and have a ton going on: school dance tonight, Heart Walk on the morning, birthday party for a friend of the kids, last flag football game (!!!!) and I am having dinner with friends tomorrow night. Oof.

QOTD: We have a ton of signs, figures, and candy canes that we put out in the yard that the kids love (they get to choose a new one each year...our teeny yard is becoming a bit crowded!) We also put lights on the stairs and a wreaths on the door. I was just looking at candles of the windows. The only thing we do different since the kids is the Advent calender (typically Legos) and the Elf on the Shelf.

  • Our original plan for this weekend was to be in Boston, but when we found out that Z would be transitioning to a new job we realized that it wasn't the best time to travel. Boohoo. :(

I did decide to go ahead and take Monday off (Tuesday is a holiday for me), so I'm looking at a 4-day weekend! \:D/

We actually don't have much planned, which is a nice change of pace. Hope to do some running and relaxing. Also, we are getting little guy's first pair of real shoes! Very excited about this.

With my extra time off, I want to buckle down and decide on birthday party and Thanksgiving menu and go ahead and make grocery lists for both. Oh, what an exciting life I lead. I also plan to make huge headway into creating a photo/baby book for Ash. We have The Wonder of Me, but I've decided that I like the idea of creating my own even though it takes lots of time. I've started by going back and copying/pasting my Parenting updates into a word doc. I should have been doing this as I go. Live and learn.

So, nothing too exciting, but having some time to do something productive is very appealing to me!

QOTW: we only decorate for Christmas, though maybe we'll start decorating for other holidays when we have a bigger house with more storage. We'll probably get a tree the weekend and start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving. I so want to buy stockings and a nice tree skirt this year. I probably should have bought some after Christmas last year, but i had a few other things on my plate. I would like to get our names monogrammed on our stockings, but I think I'll just buy 4 this year and add out to-be baby's name to it at a later date. I absolutely love this time of year and am excited about starting our own family traditions with our kids.

I'm on the fence with Elf on the Shelf. Seems so cute and fun, but also a little bit of a PITA at the same time. I didn't grow up with it, so don't feel strongly about it. Thoughts?

  • Tonight we are having dinner with our nanny/friend and her wife.

Tomorrow morning we are going with my dad to buy wood to make our new dining room table. I can't wait! It's going to look kind of like this

    image

I don't remember what else we are doing....oh trying to snap some photo's of M in his expensive gap outfit because he wouldn't smile for my cousin when she did our photos.

Sunday we may go watch the soccer playoffs with our friends and let M and her baby have a little play date.

QOTW: I really enjoy decorating for the holidays and J said she wants to do a lot more, and earlier, this year because of M. We always get a real tree, that is a must, and decorate with a bunch of mostly sentimental ornaments. I don't think we'll do Elf on the Shelf, I think it looks fun, but J thinks it's creepy. I jokingly told M santa was watching him this morning and J was not pleased ;). We might figure out a way to do it that is just more fun and silly, we'll see. We'll probably start decorating after thanksgiving...we haven't really talked about it yet, but that sounds like a feasible plan.

we don't do the whole 'the elf is watching for good behavior and reports back" deal. We just move it around the house each night. We typically don't do elaborate set-ups (ala Pinterest) but easy/fun ones (write on the mirror in dry erase the first/last day) and hang it from lights, etc. 1-2x/week L will do something more creative with it. Yes, it is a PITA to remember to move it each night, but it is only for 24 days (we do Dec 1-24) and the kids LOVE it. They are so cute with it that it is worth it! :)
