Re: Randomonium Symposium

  • I used to be all experimenty with my truffles and then they all blew up in a poof of mold, so I stopped. Truffles are very picky about their moisture content and it's hard to get it right, so I have stuck with the 4 flavors that don't mold (unless you look at them wrong). That said, I do experimental truffles at one craft show that I run and specifically don't guarantee shelf life (they need to be refrigerated). That's Saturday December 13 and I can tell y'all what the flavors are going to be when I decide (I'm sure they would last a short shipping distance). I know I'm going to do Peppermint Poppyseed. I do it every year because it's so tasty and molds in about 3 weeks out of the fridge. I'm also thinking about a pumpkin spice (along the lines of the pumpkin syrup that we all make here). I'll probably do something nutty too. In past years I've done bacon, rum and peanut, toasted coconut & curry spice, almond mocha among many others. Feel free to make suggestions. I like making flavors that make people say huh?
    YES to the bolded.

Its trendy now so not too wowing, but what about salty sweet, like peanut butter w/pretzels on top. Drool.

Sadly, the short shelf life means I probably can't give them as gifts, but just eat myself.
    Oh darn the bad luck.

I would just like to thank the cloth diaper board for introducing me to the MMSS. N had record naps yesterday, and went down so easy for nap this morning. It didn't have much effect on night sleep, so I may or may not keep using it overnight, but night sleep was pretty good to begin with.

    That and waxelene.

I learn about so much cool stuff here.

Oh and diapers too. I guess I've learned some things about diapers.

I'm really thinking about buying this magic suit. I checked the clock last night, just to make myself feel worse, and M was up every 2 hours or less. :(

I think I would be constantly making frantic phone calls to my relatives at ungodly hours without the internet.

  • DH asked me if I want to go to a Ron White show when he comes to town in a few months. He's not my favorite comedian, and the tickets are kinda pricey. On the other hand, we've only had 2 date nights in all of 2014, so it would be nice to have a night out. I'm torn. PS I would LOVE to try a dark chocolate peanut butter truffle, @mapleme. I miss dark chocolate Reese's cups way down in my soul.

I'm totally jealous of your 2 dates. We have only had one in the last year and it was a very long five course meal with another couple (friends) who were in the middle of a huge fight and she kept trying to pick another fight the whole time. Her attitude pissed off my DH, while lead him to be in a bad mood. It turned into three hours of tension, though it was a great meal.

Is it terrible that I would totally enjoy this? And maybe be goading one of them on? No, not really. But maybe.

  • I have a dumb question, so dumb I don't want to give it its own thread. Frozen vegetables? Are they cooked? What do I need to do with them? I bought some things for dd that I don't use very much or can't keep fresh very long but want her to eat. Peas, broccoli, cauliflower, ect. How do I prep these for her?
    image
  • @countrycotton They may or may not be, depending on the brand/packaging/item.  There should be instructions on the package.  I typically steam mine by putting about an inch of water in a pot, bring it to a boil, add the veggies, steam until soft.  Drain and season.

If we hadn't been in public DH would have called her out, it would have been load and very very bad. Luckily it was a very nice Restraunt so he tryed to mind his manors.

  • @TJ1979‌ so do the veggies go in the water or in a steamer basket?

Don't be too jealous. One of the dates was a thing for his work. It was about 2 hours of fun and 3-4 hours of boredom and sore feet from my heels. The highlight of the evening was when J's coworker described the boss lady's dress as "putting the puppies out on the porch."

  • @countrycotton You can do it either way.  If you have a real steamer set up, you can actually steam them.  If not, you can mimic steaming by just boiling them in an inch of water.

  • thanks everyone. I know it's odd to not know this kind of thing but I grew up on canned veggies. Then when I got married DH was anything but fresh was gross. I don't have a microwave, but do have a steamer that I can do small portions in. I'll give it ago tonight.

  • The smoked tomatillo is my new fave.
  • My new Sealife TB just came through the slot! Naturally, my dog was waiting at the door and nearly tore it apart before I could get to it. I think we may have gotten away with a couple of minor abrasions to the fabric side of the PUL.

Sigh. God does not want me to have this diaper. (This is my third one, for those of you who are keeping track)

MH and I were the same way so frozen veggies are a great compromise. If there is Trader Joe's in your area, their frozen section can make anyone seem like a gourmet cook LOL.

  • I roasted brussels sprouts for dinner, and I have to say, I'm not all that impressed with them. I guess I expected them to be a bit milder and sweeter like cooked cabbage.
