Cookie dough!

I have a serious craving to make some chocolate chip cookies - and preferably eat most of it in dough form! Anyone have a good recipe or suggestion for delicious cookie dough recipe that isn't risky due to raw eggs?

Side note: The packaged cookie dough at the store now comes with a warning, "Do not eat raw cookie dough." I much prefer the flavor of homemade anyway, but seriously?

Re: Cookie dough!

  • I've got a GREAT vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe.  I can't post it from where I am but I will do so tonight.  DD sneaks around and grabs the dough balls off the cookie tray whenever I make these cookies.

  • I've made these before. Amazing. I made them for a party and got huge reviews from everyone. We froze them too and ate them that way...
Holy heck I might have to make them again soon just thinking about them

  • My grocery store sells pasteurized eggs.  You could use those!

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
    3/4 cups packed brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract (less if you don't love vanilla)
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup flour
    2 tbsp milk
    1 cup chocolate chips
    **********
    1. Cream butter and sugar together. Add vanilla and salt to the mix.
    2. Add the flour (your dough will be crumbly)
    3. Add in the milk and combine (dough should come together now)
    4. Fold in your chocolate chips.

Store any leftovers in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months.

  • I just eat the cookie dough anyway. Never gotten sick before, don't see it happening now.

  • I have actually heard (not sure how true it is) that it is more likely the raw flour that will make you sick as opposed to the raw egg in cookie dough.

  • The flour thing is true. The odds that you'll get salmonella are so slim to none nowadays, like you would have to eat hundreds of raw eggs to even have a slightly elevated risk.

If cookie dough was appealing to me at the moment, I'd probably go for it. :: shrug ::

I hadn't heard that before (news stories via Google single out EColi as the danger with raw flour - gross!) Hmm - I wonder if heating the flour in the microwave until it reached 160 degrees would do the trick...
  • PS- because I know you were all waiting on the edge of your seats, I couldn't wait any longer.

    Thanks, OP, thanks. ;)

  • Substitute apple sauce for eggs. That is how I make edible cookie dough.

Be very careful because eggs are not the only concern.  Flour from the supermarket is not pasteurized and can contain e coli.  There was an outbreak in 2009 from people who ate raw Tollhouse dough and the flour was culprit.

ETA: I was obviously so eager to share my tidbit of information that I did not read the earlier posts that stole my thunder :)

  • Ingredients ½ cup coconut oil 1 cup brown sugar ¼ cup almond milk 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup vegan chocolate chips (Trader Joe's chocolate chips are accidentally vegan!) Instructions Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Cream (aka thoroughly mix) together the coconut oil & brown sugar, then add the almond milk & vanilla. The mixture may be really "liquidy" this is OK. In a separate bowl mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Combine the wet & dry ingredients (it WILL BE crumbly - this is OK), then fold in the chocolate morsels & any other mix-ins of your choosing. Roll into Tbsp sized balls & place them on an ungreased cookie sheet (or on a sheet of parchment paper on the baking sheet), then flatten them out a bit with your palm. The dough may be a little crumbly, but just smoosh it together and it will work fine! Bake for 7-10 minutes. Best chocolate chip cookies I have ever made!
