oh yay! A sleep thread. We haven't had one in a while.
SS situation: J went from being an awesome sleeper to waking up every 1.5-2 hours. After two months, I was done and we have been trying modified cio. Basically, you let them cry for 10 minutes, soothing talk, back rubs, no picking up for two minutes and then leave. The time of crying increases every night. Last night was night #2.
He went down around 8, fussed for about 30 minutes but wasn't really crying hard so I didn't go in. He slept until 2, H went in for the routine, he kept crying and fell asleep after 20 minutes.
Around 4:30, he woke up hysterical. Like screaming, losing his shit, trouble breathing crying. H couldn't soothe him at all so I went in and nurses him (after about 20 minutes - if felt like the only option). He ate and then fell asleep until 7.
How can I prevent that hysterical, scream cry? Is it just part of cio? It breaks my heart
Re: Sleep Help
As far as the hysterical crying... sadly, yea. It happens. Fortunately for us it only happened for the first two nights. I mean, he still cries, he is a baby, but now he can soothe himself.
I struggle with that a lot, like I'm sure most od us do, but I had to let him learn how to do it - I couldn't soothe him either at the point where we started this, you know?
With my next kid it's crib to sleep from the beginning!
LO sleeps with us and recently her sleep sucks, she wakes every 1,5 and no way of soothing her other then swing. I'm so tired. I really don't want her to cry but I know we all need her to sleep on her own. Fingers crossed.
FWIW, I went from bed sharing to SleepEasy training and we've had some great results. We had issues with consistency (or as I like to call it 'user error') in the beginning, but he's doing so much better than he was - bedtime and naps in his crib now! We still have some stuff to iron out, but it was A LOT easier than I had worried myself into thinking it would be.
