Book Recommendations?

I'm starting to get back into reading now that I'm getting a wee bit more sleep and could use some (none-baby) book recs. I just burned through Gone Girl and I'm starting Lena Dunham's memoir. I'm up for anything...fiction, nonfiction, doesn't matter. What do you love?
Gotta stop my brain from atrophying!

Re: Book Recommendations?

  • Amy Pohlers new book is on my list. My all time favorite non-fiction is The Glass Castle.

For fiction, if you liked Gone Girl, you'd like Still Missing. Not as smartly written but a fast-paced read along the same lines. I also liked Firefly Lane and Night Road by Kristin Hannah.

  • I'm currently reading Dark Places, written by the same author as gone girl. I think it's harder for me to get into it with it on my phone instead of an actual book, and of course a baby to take care of.

  • Have you heard about the controversy about part of Dunham's memoirs?  There's a thread about it over on Parenting, but it may be triggering for some.

Anyway, I'm not sure where your interests lie, but here's a list of favorites on my bookshelf:

Gone With the Wind, possibly my all-time favorite book
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, love her
    Memoirs of a Geisha
    The Poisonwood Bible
    The Other Boleyn Girl
    The Good Earth
    The Pillars of the Earth
    Watership Down

  • Right now I'm reading Heaven is for Real. Love it

I ended up liking dark places more than gone girl!

I'm currently reading the Winter Sea, it's good so far. It's half historic fiction, half current time. Then I think I'm going to read another book from black dagger brotherhood series.

  • Thanks ladies, keep em coming!

@biokitty42‌ , I just read the Parenting thread today. Yikes...haven't got to that part yet.
@halle83‌ , I'm really excited to read Amy Poehler's book, just waiting for the paperback!

  • All the black dagger brotherhood books are great. I love me some trashy romance novels as my husband calls them. I just finished the audio book of outlander which didn't really get good until at least halfway through but then it got really good. I'm reading the sequel now.
  • I just read Serena (P.S.) by Ron Rash. I really liked it. My all time favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird.

The Lena Dunham controversy is crazy. I really want to read Gone Girl.

Gone with the wind is my absolute favorite movie! I really ought to read it one day

  • 13th tale, room, and before I go to sleep we're all hits with my book club. So was the year of living biblically, I loved it but only recommend if you're open minded and ok with poking fun at religion.

I absolutely love Gone with the Wind. I've tried twice to read it and have failed. Maybe someday.
  • The History of Love by Nicole Krauss was beautiful. The Goldfinch was long, but really entertaining.

I've never come across anyone else who's read The 13th Tale!  I thought it was a pretty good read.

  • Loved the Poisonwood Bible. Also Red Tent and the Historian are great historical fiction books.
