Anybody get these? A relitives wants to get the girls a box for Christmas and I don't know what to say, the reviews I've seen are all on blogs so I don't know who got them for free vs who paid. Any opinions?

Re: Subscription boxes?

  • Kiwi Crate is fun.  It's arts and crafts stuff.  They include all of the supplies.  There's several activities to do, and a little booklet with things to talk about while doing it.  My oldest was getting the box when he was maybe 3.5.  It was fun.  He enjoyed making the things, and played with them a lot.  My two problems were he wanted to do everything right away (so then it was a whole month before we had more to do, not their fault), and the stuff wasn't super high quality (so it broke easily).  It was still fun, and I think worth doing.

Citrus Lane is kind of cool.  They send you random fun things for the age group.  You always get your moneys worth, but it's not necessarily stuff you'd buy.  Some the stuff was stuff I had never seen and I was glad they sent it to me.  Some of the stuff I'd never use.  I ended up deciding that I'd rather save the money and buy stuff I know I'd like/want instead of getting the box.

  • Grant gets a Bluum Box every month (he started at 18 months).  I tried it with a living social deal and signed him up for a year.  He loves getting a box every month in the mail and we definitely get our money's worth.  (the box is worth 40 to 50 dollars per month).

It is based by his age and has five products (full size not trials) for him to try.  His favorites have been Melissa and Doug puzzles, matching card games, pull tab board books, and bath toys. We've gotten plates, cool snack containers and some organic products to try out (most things are organic so that is a plus).  And often the fifth item is a mommy item, which is a moisturizer, a chapstick or cool new thing for mom to try.  However this isn't always with every month.  And finally while the boxes are packed according to his age and development milestones (which you can choose on the website) they are also by season too.  In the June's box we received an awesome sunhat (although he refused to wear it most of the summer!) and an organic sunscreen stick and in February's box there was cold remedy for mom and leg warmers for DS to wear under his snow pants.

Now i will say we have had some months where some of the items have been a bit too "babyish" for him but those thing can always be saved for gifts or donations.  Overall most of the items are very age appropriate and we have loved the boxes.

  • Citrus Lane is nearly impossible to cancel! Ha. I am on the last month of a deal for L. It is worth it, but like PP said, it is not really stuff we would buy, so we are cancelling it.

    HATED Wittlebee. Just No.

  • @PenelopePond‌ she mentioned koala crate, I wonder if it is the same as kiwi crate. She said it was like a craft box. I kind of like the idea of a small gift each month as well as disposable stuff!

@Flamingemu I wonder if a gift membership would be as difficult?

@hmp1 from what I can tell wittlebee is no longer in buisness.

Thank you all for the opinions!
