Abnormal AFP blood test?

got a all from high risk OB today that I'm at an increased risk for spina bifida do to increased AFP test. Have to see a genetic counselor Wednesday and am freaking out. Anyone else have the same experience? I'm 18 weeks 2 days pregnant with 3rd pregnancy, 2nd child. Miscarriage with pregnancy two.

    I was about 18 weeks when I got this same call we went for an ultrasound and was told the baby has spina bifida. I was shell shocked to say the least. This is our first pregnancy I'm 27 active and healthy, was taking prenatals for 2-3 months prior to getting pregnant. However you do have options if you get a diagnosis there are about 10 hospitals in the us that do surgery to repair it in utero. We live in pa and are going for testing with the children's hospital of Philadelphia they have an amazing video on their website. There are also many degrees of severity of spina bifida some people you would never know they have it. Try to relax and stay positive they are often false positives but in my case they weren't. I am always willing to talk and share what I have found so far in this process we hopefully go for testing in a few weeks to see if we are candidates or surgery an have an amino tomorrow to see if it is an open or closed defect. Keep us updated and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Have been thinking about you! Hope your meeting w the genetic counselor went well and if you had any u/s to get a for sure yes or no. Hoping everything is ok!
