I'm not sure what the recommendations are for pillows but I personally would not feel comfortable using a pillow until LO is at least 2. She loves to lay on my pillows when in my bed but I don't let her sleep with them.
I think from a chiropractic stand point they would prefer never...lol at least that's what ours said. We will definitely wait a little while longer. I just started letting her have a small blankets a few days ago.
I know what you mean @deedee1017, Sunday night was the worst night ever and when I finally gave in and let LO sleep with me, she did great snuggling up to my pillow. I was trying to figure out a way to make her crib more comfy so she would want to be in it but I couldn't come up with a safe way to do it.

This is exactly what I want to do. She needs to feel pillows or us around her. It needs to be more cozy.
Could you put a very small memory foam like pillow under the bed sheet? D is a tummy sleeper, so I doubt she would benefit from a pillow anyhow, but she does love her blanket, and she keeps it on all night!
Or maybe even a gel pad just something that is small and thin but could add some cushion.

wait, so it's safe to put a pillow UNDER the sheet? i would think it is just as dangerous, no?

Hmmm, I think less dangerous because it can't move around, so they can't really get their face...under it, so much? IDK. The truth is that the risk of suffocation decreases so significantly after they are a year old. Like, it's the leading cause of death in kids under a year, causing 77% of all infant deaths, but in kids age 1-4, it's the 5th leading cause, responsible for only 9% of deaths. And that's just unspecified suffocation, so it includes suffocation for all kinds of reasons, not just those related to cribs and bedding. Most sites/experts say a small blanket and pillow are fine after a year, some hard-line sites say to wait until 2. It's a judgment call. I have folded up a firm quilt and used it to get him slightly elevated when he's been sick, and felt comfortable with it, but it's up to you. If your kid is primarily a side or back sleeper, I would think there's likely very little risk at all.

Honestly, I think she'd be okay with a pillow but I'm still nervous about it. I just need to find a solution to make her crib more appealing. I might go check out that Ikea pillow. It's not as bulky as a regular pillow, so maybe that would work.

It would help some. Can something crazy still happen sure. Like sleepy said the risk is super low past 1yr of age. However, using pillows Is supposedly not the greatest for their neck and back development.
Re: pillows
does refusing to go in her bed and sleeping in my bed only count? Jk I know it doesn't. Sigh. I'm exhausted.
