Are you in your 20th week now? I know we have some girls who are due in March here but not many. You would possibly get answers faster over in March. The latest most of us are is 18-19 weeks. I'm sorry if you had these pop up for you though.

  • I am in my 19 week but had my second trimester ultrasound during my 18th week
  • I know several people that have had the same thing.  In fact my best friend called me in a panic after getting results showing a 1:64 chance her daughter would have Ds. She had an amnio. None of the people I know who had those markers had a child with Down Syndrome.  My son had none of that, he has Down Syndrome.
If it's worrying you, I'd ask for further testing.  The blood tests (MaterniT21, Verify, Harmony) etc. are very accurate and non-invasive.  Do check with your insurance prior to testing, they are very expensive tests right now.

  • I'm 19 weeks on Wednesday just had my scan today was 1.5 hours because she was a wiggle worm and wasn't giving good heart measurements. They said everything looked perfect and didn't bring up any concerns.
  • I had mine today. The tech actually sent me to labor and delivery because my fluid is measuring a little low, she thought my water broke. Luckily it's not broken. So mine wasn't showing any "soft markers", but was showing the amniotic fluid issue.
  • With dd her as showed the bright spot on the heart. However, we knew she was OK bc of the results from the harmony test. Try not to stress about it just yet. It could mean nothing. Also, I would request the panorama test to make sure. It's just like the harmony and maternity21, but can be done at anytime during pregnancy.

  • With my DS they found soft markers on the heart and his pinky finger. They said he had little calcium in his pinky finger which in common in kids who have Down syndrome. We opted out of testing and he was born perfectly healthy with no issues. FX that everything turns out okay for you.
  • There was a cyst on my DS' brain at the 20 week u/s. We chose to do a level 2 u/s and met with a genetic counselor but all was determined to be well, and the cyst was gone by the next u/s.

Did you do the 12 week NT u/s and bloodwork? What were the results with that?
  • With DD at my 20 week they found a spot on the heart and a spot on the brain that they said could be markers for genetic abnormalities. I can't remember what they spots were called. I googled like crazy and worried for weeks and both went away by the next ultrasound and DD did not have Downs or some other chromosonal abnormality. As others have said, I think technology sometimes makes us worry more than necessary, but at the same time it is nice to be informed.
They did not have the Verify/Harmony tests back then so I just waited. If you have not had one you could ask your doctor about it for peace of mind. It takes a 7 to 14 days to get results.

Fantastic for you. How is this helpful to OP?
This. @NutritionChick‌, I am happy your scan was great, but this was not pertinent in the least.

OP, I hope that your next scan shows everything to be normal. I haven't had mine yet, but I can't imagine how scary that is for you. I'll be thinking of you and your LO.
  • Yes I did 12 week blood work and everything was perfect. Thanks for everyone's support and I hope we all have healthy babies.
  • I know I have never posted before...until now I've just been the creeper in the background. But today I went for my anatomy scan and first of all we found out we're having a boy! My fiancé is ecstatic since he's a football coach and we have a little girl already. But when talking to our doctor, our baby boy had two markers, cysts on the brain and inflamed kidneys. We had the MaterniT21 test done and I am a nervous wreck. These posts here though, have calmed me quite a bit. Here's to hoping and praying for great results for anyone in this situation!
  • I'm so sorry! I read the topic and went to respond but I didn't see the two issues you listed right after, I thought you were seeking if people were told about soft markers at their visit or not. So so sorry you are going through this. With lo1 I was told she had increased fluid when they looked at her brain but it resolved by about 30 weeks. Hope you get answers soon!! So so sorry again!
  • I got the news today about the isolated choroid plexus cyst, my OB says nothing to worry about since there were no other positive markers. Over 90% resolve by 28 weeks. But truth is I panicked, cried, then read ever medical journal published in the last 10 years on the subject (I'm a nurse researcher) and feel much better.
