June 2013 Moms

Does anyone here have a 17 month old AND a 4 month old at home? or close?

I have a June 2013 baby and a June 2014 baby and I am just wondering how you are handling it? When I just had one, I was always out of the house doing different activities and now I have turned into a hermit. I have been going a little crazy these past few weeks, because I have no energy to do much of anything! Leaving the house is a huge production, especially when the husband works 12 hour shifts. How do you stay sane? or are you going insane like I am???

  • I do the same thing! We go to the mall when I am desperate to get out. It passes time nicely, but I've been avoiding it a bit lately due to some bugs that are going around. Thank you SO much for the link! I was trying to find a group like that one, but I wasn't finding any! :)

  • Sarah- When my youngest was born, my husband was also working 12 hour night shifts. It didn't affect me too much though because he quits helping me during the night after a couple days. The worst part about night shift was the long evenings without him! Those evenings can seem like forever. I used to think I had a sugar addiction, but then I realized I just ate sugar on nights he worked, probably out of loneliness and boredom. Ever since he's been working days, I haven't needed sugar as bad ! Haha ANYWAYS, I know night shift can be hard.

It gets easier in ways and harder in other ways. My youngest doesn't sleep all of the time now and he gets bored easily laying around all day so I have to hold him a lot. I've heard that it gets easier the older they get, so I'm hoping that's true.

I think I will try to just do ONE thing a day, even if it may just be making dinner lol :) We just went on a 20 minute walk and I feel better. I think I realized why I am a hermit again though... Lol

I'm usually better at staying active and being positive, but I think hormonal lately? I just started my period again (sorry, tmi), for the first time since before my first was born.

Sorry that was a long post and kind of all over the place.

  • I've used the Moby wrap quite a bit, but the bigger he gets, the more unreliable it is. I can never get him in it right anymore and it always seems like he is about to fall out. A good carrier would make it a lot easier!
  • I hope I'll be an expert! I mean it's already been 4 months...:) I think I just need to get used to the idea that I can't be a supermom anymore. You can contact me anytime you want, I will totally understand what your going through! Goodluck on the delivery!:)
  • What does LO#2 weigh? I know after baby gets to about 15lbs, the Moby becomes kinda useless.
I have an Ergo, mei tai, & a DIY woven wrap.
My DS is around 30lbs & its much easier carrying him in the Ergo or mei tai (im still learning how to wrap with my woven).

I know the Infantino Mei Tai is around $30 (and I think target has them for $17 online). They make great starter carriers since the Ergo can be quite pricey.

I actually ordered an ergo right after G was born, but ended up returning because 1, it was so expensive and 2, the moby was working pretty well at that point. I'll look into the target carrier! Thank you!
  • Oh and he weighs 15 lbs :D
  • I'm about to have my 4th baby in January. My first two are older (14, and 8) then I've got a 16 month old.... He'll be 19 months when the baby arrives though.

Right now we are at the mall at least once a week walking around, and having him play with other kids in the play area.
I also do Fred Meyer runs, and target runs weekly as well.
We've also went to indoor play parks (ran by the church) but they charge, and requires you to go in and help set up, clean, and take down toys which I think is silly. ... And honestly I don't have time to do that all the time.
I just get out as much as I can.

Oh! Also I've been into making my son's 'busy box' with things I have around the house. Certain things I've got keep him really busy and entertained for a while. It's prefect for days we are at home all day.

For ideas just Google busy boxes. Or look on pintrest for ideas if your interested.

  • Labellavida- I LOVE target runs! I just have to have really good self control when I go because I love that store way too darn much.

Michelin82- I feel like you really understand my situation. Everything you said was perfect and it's what I needed to hear. I got a baby carrier today off craigslist for $10. It's already been great and I have a clean kitchen now. :) oh, and peeing before you leave the house...I've already learned my lesson haha.

    Thanks everyone!
