Medela pump parts in dishwasher

Are there any concerns or long term effects of regular washing of the Medela pump parts in the dishwasher? When I was pumping withDS1 we didn't have a dishwasher and hand washing was a PITA. Thankfully I do have a dish washer and am thinking if just washing them every other day in that ( I also have the microwave steam bags).

Re: Medela pump parts in dishwasher

  • should be fine- i put medela pump parts in the dishwasher every day for the 11 months that i pumped (i had 2 sets so i could put one in the dishwasher each night and have a clean one ready)- just right in the top rack or silverware basket. the parts still looked great and i held onto them for any future kids.

my only caution would be not to use heated drying (we never do anyway).

i always hand-washed the membranes; i think those are too delicate for the dishwasher.

  • Thanks. I also gave a spare set, so I wouldn't have to run the dish washer every day. What would be the concern w the heated dry?

  • just the risk of melting/warping from the heat. if you put everything on the top rack, it should be fine even with heated dry on.

i used to throw the little yellow pieces (as well as bottle nipples) in the silverware basket, which is closer to the heating element. if you're planning to put anything in the bottom rack, i'd leave the heated dry off.
