Anxiety attacks

I'm still trying to recover from one I had 2 hours ago. My heart hurts from the pounding. It almost never happens unless I'm pregnant or postpartum. I had severe pp attacks after Charlie. With Logan, first trimester was rough then I was fine. This pregnancy I've been okay until today. I don't use medication, usually exercise helps. But I had worked out for an intense hour this morning. Anyone else deal with this?

Re: Anxiety attacks

  • Unfortunately yes... I have always been a generally anxious person but since being pregnant started having panic attacks. Ugh!! Usually they happen close to doctors appointments but sometimes they come out of nowhere and it's really hard to get them to pass. I've also been trying meditation, I just started seeing a therapist and I just enrolled in a prenatal yoga class. We will see how that goes. Let me know if you find something that actually works for you!!

  • I actually had one yesterday. I've always had aniexty problems and attacks. Yesterday I was just sitting on the couch in an uncomfortable shirt, it was so tight on my ribs I had an anxiety attack and practically ripped it off and burst into tears. My anxiety has gone up this trimester, but I don't plan on medication for it. Just take deep breaths and try to stay calm. I always think of the beach and it helps.

  • I have in the past, especially leading up to DH's last deployment. I found cognitive behavior therapy and exercise to be a very effective treatment plan. Good luck, I know how scary it can be.

  • I wish I knew how to deal without medication. I still take an SSRI daily.

  • I started to have them, I would go into our bedroom and sit crossed leg on the bed and count my breaths. Reminding myself that I was ok, that while I feel horrible right now it will pass. After I finish I go take a warm shower with some lavender body wash and take a nap.

  • Ugh... I use to have panic attacks when I was doing my graduate degree. I worked with a therapist to learn non medicated techniques to help myself when they happened. There are therapist that special in this, maybe you can ask your doctor for a referral.

I manage to get mine under control, but yes they do pop up every once in awhile while I'm pregnant like you. Most of time they come on when I start feel ill or have too much sugar or if the pressure changes outside and makes me feel "weird". Also I have noticed there are different foods sometimes that set mine off. Maybe look into that?

  • I had some short ones the other night. The first was when I was ripped out of a deep sleep, which I never get to have anymore, by the dog making noise upstairs. Then I went back to sleep and every little noise would wake me and send me into another one. It was awful and I got up for work crying and clinging to my husband. Going to work actually helped because it took my mind off of things. So I have been dozing with the TV on lately to distract my mind. I am a TV sleeper. Some people says it keeps them from getting restful sleep, but it helps me because I learned how to shut my mind off from the sound.
