dysgeusia- a distorted sense of taste

Is this happening to anyone else? If so what are you eating that helps, if anything? Every thing I eat tastes literally like dirty dish water :-/

Re: dysgeusia- a distorted sense of taste

  • Early in my pregnancy, I had a craving for sourpatch kids. I had to spit them out because they tasted incredibly chemically. Yuck!

Thankfully that's been my only experience with things tasting weird.

  • Wow, that would be such a pain in the ass! I feel bad for any pregnant woman who can't eat what she likes. What torture!

The only experience I've had with funny tasting food was when my husband ordered a thai rice bowl from Moxie's and I tasted it. I swore that it tasted "like medicine", even though I couldn't put my finger on why. He thought it was great, ate the whole thing, then spent the night on the shitter. I'm amazed that my sense of taste saved me from earing any more of it.

  • I personally can't stand most red meat. It's very surreal to stare at a beautiful filet mignon that you KNOW probably tastes like heaven, and have the same feelings for it as you do roadkill.

Also, cooking turkey smells like something died and fell in the sewer. Wth body?

  • Yep. Everything we have tried to make for dinner has tasted just... odd. It's frustrating and I feel bad for SO when I have to tell him I'm just not feeling the dinner he worked hard to make. I hope it passes soon.

  • I sometimes crave ramen noodles but as soon as it goes in my mouth it grosses me out. I don't mind it so much because I know they're bad for me anyways.

I think sticking to hot stuff or sour stuff is what helps the most but it still stinks. I made chicken Alfredo last night. I put all kinds of effort in to it and it tasted awful to me but my family said it was awesome :-/
  • I had it up until last week and it could come back for me. I had the metallic taste and it made eating miserable. Try gargling with baking soda a few times a day. Brush your teeth a bunch and if you can stand it, brush your tongue. Mints kinda helped. Lots of people say sucking on lemons, but it didn't work for me. Hopefully it will pass soon for you.
