Daylight Savings

Ugh, I hate changing the time now that we have kids.  I managed to avoid putting them down an hour early last night by working really hard to keep them up and entertained until 8 pm but they still both woke up at 6 am this morning (when they'd normally wake up at 7 or 7:30 am).  That extra hour really sucks and DS is still obviously tired because he's super fussy this morning.

Re: Daylight Savings

  • While mine slept somewhat in yesterday, their naps were all weird and screwed up and they were terribly crabby for the afternoon.
We managed ok this morning though. Yesterday was the longest day ever though. Terrible.

  • Sorry this wont help you now but a friend of mine with 3 kids said that she completely ignores DST the first few days. She slightly adjusts her kids' mealtimes, wake up, nap and bedtime schedules by 15 min or so throughout the week. And besides places she has to be at a certain time, it has worked for her. I want to say I took her advice when Will (or was it Jack?) was a baby-baby and we never noticed a difference in him at all.

  • My kids are all screwed up. They were practically laying on the floor by bedtime last night. Maya got up at 4:30 and thought it was morning, then Ethan woke up at 5:30 snd would not go back to sleep. We are extra screwed because we leave for TX tomorrow and that's another hour difference. This is not going to be good.

Yea I thought about doing exactly that, but we had no real issues when DD was younger so I was hoping DS would be similar..of course not...even though DD woke up earlier than normal, she's acting fine..but DS is a fuss monster!

  • I'm just glad we had no where to be yesterday, it allowed us to just have a relaxing day at home, because the kids were definitely off schedule.

I never keep them up late the night before because no matter what, my kids generally wake up at the same time every morning.  (With the exception of Sat morning, TOT'ing really wore them out!)

They woke up around 5:30/6 when they normally would have been up around 6:30/7.  We did nap/lunch etc. all at the same time.  Except neither kid napped.  That made for a fun afternoon.  But we did a lot of snuggle time/TV time/art time.  I had no desire to take my kids out in public.

We were all ready for bed by 7pm last night!

  • We haven't noticed a huge change with DS. He went to bed at 8:30 on Saturday night and woke at 7:15 yesterday morning. Today he was up at 6:45 and was in bed at the same time last night. I think he'll adjust pretty quickly. I was ready for bed when he went down last night though. I think I was more exhausted than him!

  • My boys had good naps yesterday, a benefit of waking early. But the sun comes up so early here right now, I would rather put them to bed earlier than hope they sleep to the normal time. Since we aren't playing outside after school, it is easy to just do our dinner and bed routine earlier without them noticing they are going to bed earlier. I have been screwed both mornings because I forgot to change James' OK to Wake clock so he was up at 5:45 this morning and I had no excuse to make him stay in his room for a bit. I'm adjusting his clock by 20 minutes today and again in the next couple weeks to get him past 6:30. Leo continues his streak as easiest kid ever and didn't have any trouble with the switch.

  • DST sucks.

I totally agree. DD has decided that 5-5:30 is an acceptable wake up time when she normally gets up at 7.

  • DST SUCKS.  We used to be the only (I think) part of the country that didn't change at all, and I think changing is so dumb.  It looked like midnight at 6pm last night.  Grr.

When I lived in AZ I could never remember what time it was everywhere else. At least now I can remember my sister is always an hour ahead and my brother is always 2 hours behind.
