Re: ***IUI Check-In 11/2***

  • This is probably the slowest 2ww I've ever had. I'm only 5dpo but it feels like forever since the IUI. My boobs have hurt for a few days now so I guess my progesterone is high (not of supplements). This cycle is definitely different. My follicles were slow growing and now the sore boobs. I really hope this is the one. Its gonna be hard if #3 doesn't work. I know I'm gonna feel like a failure. That I'm old and broken. But I'm not going there yet.

QOTW...I have a few nightshirts that really need thrown away. They are thin and holey...but oh so comfy! Probably super sexy too!

QOTW: I have this old earth day tie dye shirt that I just can't make myself retire. I could never wear it out of the house but damn if it's not the most comfortable thing I own.

  • Officially in my 2WW. IUI was this past Sat.  I ended up doing Menopur for 12 days and triggered with only 2 leading follicles at 16 and 17mm, e2 = 1331.  Kinda bummed that I didn’t respond better.  My trigger tends to stay in my system for up to 13dpo so I won’t be testing until beta.

QOTW: I have this old cashmere sweater.  It has holes and is a few sizes too small from shrinking in the wash (oops!) but I love wearing it around the house.

  • I am 2dpiui. I started estradiol to get my lining all thickened up. I am also trying every home remedy in the book (thanks to everyone's suggestions!)

@BunnyBerry, I hope it goes well tomorrow. I don't have my hopes up very high this round either, and I am also basically just waiting to get a game plan from my RE.

@curve31 My fingers are crossed hard for you. I second what both Bunny and @BlueFairy5 said. You're chances are just as good this round, and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't mean you've failed. It will happen. Big cyber hug!

@hrushka I am sorry you have to wait to talk to your RE, but I hope you come up with a kick ass plan when you do.

@BlueFairy5 I didn't realize that you could start Clomid later in a cycle. I hope you get good results back!

    Good luck everyone else!

  • @mshandlebar So glad they put you on estradiol. I'm sure it will make a big difference!! And Lol about the shade of orange...so many times I look in the mirror and think, Geez I look like an exhausted boy, and then realize, no wait it just that awful orange. :)

@sweetball33 Yay for med coverage! It's so funny that you secretly toss YH's beat up clothes.

@murrt Yay for amazing post-wash numbers! So glad you're feeling hopeful. And I know what you mean about wasting a weekend on IF...I've done that so many times especially in the TWW...sometimes it feels so good to brush it off and focus on something you're good at, like work. :)

  • @firstarabesque There's a really good chance that your smaller follie will be mature at O time! Also, I am so sorry for that awful IUI experience. There is nothing quite as invasive and upsetting as cervical pain. It always gives me this horrible feeling that my body is being damaged. :( Has your RE discussed dilating your cervix? It made all the difference for me. My first IUI post-dilation, it took 2 quick tries as the nurse figured out the correct angle, and the next one it was in and out before I knew what had happened! Hopefully though this will be your cycle and you won't even have to think about it. :)

  • @firstarabesque I'm sorry you've had such a rough go with your IUIs.  My first one was awful, because I apparently have a tilted uterus and the nurse couldn't get the catheter!! They made a note in my chart of the best entry point and I haven't had a problem since!  I remember crying because it hurt, and I was depressed because I was getting an IUI in the first place.  You just have to keep that positive thoughts and think about how you won't care in the near future when you DO actually have your little bundle of joy!

  • @firstarabesque‌ hugs for your crappy experience! Like @bunnyberry they had to dilate my cervix as well. My first IUI was quite long and painful and afterwards I had quite a bit of bleeding. They did end up dilating me and my RE said he thought that after the dilation, my cervix would remain more open. (Think of it like piercing an ear). He was right. 2nd IUI was a breeze! I really couldn't believe how much better it was.

  • So I am also in the 2WW club!  Yay for us!  FX for lots of BFP's in the next two weeks! @mmurt I am your cycle buddy for sure!  Halloween IUI too!  I'm trying to keep myself distracted this month and not trying to think about it too much.  My logical brain kicks in and I get frustrated at our unexplained infertility.  Like we seem to have all the 'right' conditions.  Great follies (19/21 or something), great lining, great blood levels, excellent AMH, great post wash count (111 million this time....like how do they know that??? All I picture is a lab technician sitting in the back 99 million and 1, 99 million and 2....).  We had great numbers and 'conditions' last time and nothing.

I was going to save my little rant for TP Thursday, but I'm gonna put it here.  I went in this morning to confirm ovulation (yup both follies, one on each side, released and BW confirmed ovulation).  When meeting with the nurse to go over it all, she asks if I have booked for my beta test in 2 weeks.  "yup I have" to which she replies "exciting!!!" and I say "we will see", her response was "you need to be positive" (like my level of optimism is the 'real culprit'...now I know what I've been doing wrong all this time!!!).  I was like I've been trying for 4 years, have all the "right conditions/levels" and even with the IUI last time, nothing.  I am being realistic.  I wanted to slap her.  F*#$ off telling me I need to be positive.  I'm trying.  But I'm sure you do not have a clue how the crushing disappointment feels when every month you get the BFN!!

Sorry for ranting.  It just bothered me.  Now I get to wait, which I'm not great at.

QOTW:  I'm like you @firstarabesquenot much sticks around if I haven't worn it in a year or two.

  • @AnnaClaire256 Hi ladies!! I would love to join this discussion.

I am currently in the process of my IUI #2. I am currently on CD10, went for my blood work and ultrasound today but need to go back on Thursday as I only have 1 follie on each side but only 9mm and 11mm and my level where kind of low. Hopefully Thursday we will see some growth!

  • Hi!

I'm 7dpiui for IUI#4. I either had one follicle with high estrogen or two follicles with low estrogen... they're not sure because if there were two, they were right on top of each other. And for the fourth time I had an LH surge before the trigger shot. This time I think I surged originally on Saturday but didn't have a monitoring appt until Sunday... on Sunday they said I was "at the peak" of my surge, whatever that means, and then I had the IUI on Monday. I'm hoping this is the correct timing - usually they catch the LH surge as soon as it starts and have me come in the next day for the IUI, and I've always worried that too early.

After three BFN IUIs I'm really not super hopeful this time around. I'm already planning for next cycle, and I'm stressed out about it because I think the IUI is going to be right around Thanksgiving - super inconvenient.  And of course the IUI for the cycle after that would basically be on Christmas. I feel like I give up so much for IF, and now I might have to give up seeing my family for the holidays too, ug.

@curve31 I hope this is your month! I'm sorry about the awful pressure of IUI#3 (I'm there too). :( Try to keep in mind that it's still just one cycle; even this one failing is not a death sentence to fertility! Our chances this 3rd time around are the same as they were the last 2 times, but they're small for each cycle, even for healthy women. What's making me feel better is a consult to talk about what next steps might be...have you discussed that with YH and/or your RE yet? Perhaps go back to using injects? It must be hard dealing with the extra layer of stress/expense procuring donor sperm. I hope the rest of your TWW picks up the pace!!

@bunnyberry We talked momentarily after the IUI. She said it was up to me if I wanted to do more IUIs. I want to do at least one more. And even though I'm responding well to the Clomid, maybe change things up for the next one(s).

Purchasing the donor sperm is really our only expense so I will not complain about it. While it seems like a lot to spend $800 a month on sperm, it is NOTHING compared to those paying OOP for everything. I'm so thankful for the insurance we have, SO thankful!

Thank you for your kind words and thinking of me :)

  •  @AnnaClaire256 I would like to be added to the list.

I am on day 2 of our first medicated cycle with Gonal F injections. As long as I respond to the meds this will be IUI #1. Last night my first injection went fine and didn't hurt a bit. I kind of felt like a bad ass being able to poke myself. I am a nurse and I poke my patients all day long at work. But poking myself was very different. Tonight's injection burned and stung for awhile after. I have no idea what I did different. Anyway, I go in on Wed for an Estradiol level so we will see if they are even working.

Good luck to everyone in the 2ww! And for upcoming IUI's. :)

  • @amymckenzie555 Lol I wondered the same thing! Apparently they take a couple tiny samples from the batch, then a computer program looks at it to count the concentration and the motility. There are different ways but I think typically there's human observation for everything as well and to confirm the morph. Then they just extrapolate, if there are 100 sperm in this 0.01mL, then in the total 5mL there are 5 million sperm (I think - don't trust my math.) And how in the world does an IF get off telling a patient to "be positive"? Our nurses always act mildly positive, but so far they've known not to be obnoxious or unrealistic!

@curve31 I'm glad you have coverage!!

@firstarabesque Dilation is an in-office procedure with local or no anesthesia. It typically involves a little stick made from some kind of seaweed material that slowy, slowly expands in the cervix over a few days or sometimes longer. Mine ended up requiring surgical cutting, a little of which can be done without anesthesia, but luckily for me they did it while I was under for a laparoscopy. Mine was also stenotic (closing) toward the uterus end, and the tilted uterus didn't help either! From what I've read, if an IVF mock transfer doesn't go smoothly, they will dilate the cervix to make sure ET goes well, but I agree with you, I wouldn't want that worry hanging over my head! And as far as the sperm sitting in the catheter, that really does suck. They started IUI almost 1 hour after DH had done his thing, and then it took another 20+ minutes in a colder-than-body-temp environment, and even switching catheters, which obviously did not do his sperm any service. Good luck!!

  • I did read through everyone's posts and I'm sorry I don't have time for individual responses but I am so sorry for all of the BFNs, and I hope everyone is managing to stay sane in their current cycles!

I have IUI #2 today with 2 good follies this time (I keep trying to tell myself that this means I'm twice as likely to get pregnant.... I know it doesn't work that way :) ).  Last Friday I had 3 good ones (>10) and then yesterday there were only 2, so I'm not sure what that's all about but I'm trying to do this thing were I let the REs office do all of the thinking and worrying and I just do what they tell me.  So far I'm really bad at it!

  • So I test this Thursday and let me tell ya this has been the LONGEST 2ww everrr! I'm not to excited to test...assuming that it'll be a bfn but guess well see. I just want to know so I can move on to the next cycle of trying. Idk if I'll be doing another iui or if we'll move onto something else. ...This is my 3rd iui.
Do you think I'd get an accurate result if I tested a day early? I'd of course test again on Thursday but I'm just so over this 2ww lol (I did have the hcg trigger shot)

QOTW : I have a pair of my sister's Whinny the Pooh boxer sleeper shorts. She probably got them when she was 7 and she's 8 years older than I am lol they have a billion holes and I don't really wear them anymore but I keep them because they are one of my favorite handmedowns. (I have 3 older sisters).

I was just reading the research on this, and yes, it makes a big difference! For our situation, we should have about an 8% chance with 1 follie but about a 13% chance with 2. :)

  • Hi ladies,
fx for everyone in the tww!
I am finishing up week one, but I am not optimistic.  I went low carb, low sugar for my pcos....then fell completely off the wagon this cycle.  It's like I am mad at doing the iui, and mad that I made these changes and they didn't do any good, so since this cycle is bound to fail I'm going to give it a damn good reason.  There have been so many delicious carbs & candy.  Sigh.
I have tons of old, ratty, comfy pjs I refuse to replace.  I tease DH that he is a lucky, lucky man!

Me (33), PCOS. Bloodwork normal, AMH slightly high, HSG clear
    DH (40) SA good
    Trying since 1/2012, RE 6/2014
    Letrozole & TI June 2014-September 2014 -BFN
    October 2014 - IUI #1, lertozole - BFN
November 2014 - IUI cancelled due to holiday, TI & Lertozole - BFN
    December 2014 - TI
    January 2015 - IUI #2 - ?

  • Hello Everyone, I'm now on CD7 for IUI #2. Last day of clomid though (yay!)

I have a favorite pair of very old sweat pants. There are holes worn in both ankles, but they are just comfy and I love them.

Does anyone know how working nights/changing schedules affects ovulation and fertility? My RE just kinda looked at me funny when I asked, but I start 2 weeks of nights on Sunday and hopefully go for IUI on Tuesday as long as everything looks good on Monday.

@bunnyberry that makes me feel so much better, thanks for sharing!

The husband's count was very low this time... 3.7 million ("total motile count", we were at 14 million last time).  However our motility was very high (69% this time vs 48% last time).  So who knows.  I am kind of cranky today and not feeling very hopeful.

  • @kistra - if your body is used to the shiftwork, it might not affect anything. It will make it impossible to temp, but other than that you should ovulate like normal.

But if your body is not used to changing shifts, it could delay ovulation. Most of my experience with this actually comes from jetlag. I used to live in China and at first whenever I flew there or flew home, my period would be over a week late. It was really playing games with my head because other than when I traveled, I was incredibly regular. I googled around and decided it was because I was flipping my sleep schedule upside down. After living there for a few years, this went away. I could travel where ever and it didn't affect my cycle. So maybe my body got used to it? Who knows.

Does any of this matter on medicated schedules? I have no idea. I guess not, since your RE wasn't too worried. But it definitely was not a dumb question!

Married in 2011, NTNP until early 2012, TTC since early 2012

My husband was diagnosed with state IV colon cancer in 2009. Surgery and six rounds of chemo left him in remission (yay!) but with low testosterone. He took Androgel for two years starting in Jan 2011.
-SA in Jan 2013: big fat zero; stopped Androgel
    -varicocelectomy in June 2013
-SA in Dec 2013: 23mil/ml, really low morph
-SA in March 2014: Count doubled! Morphology apparently no longer an issue.

    Treatments:
    April 2014: hysteroscopy
    June 2014: TI (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel: 2 folliclces) = BFN
    July 2014: IUI#1 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 1 follicle, 23mil post-wash) = BFN
    August 2014: IUI#2 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 1 follicle, 43mil post-wash) = BFN
    September 2014: IUI#3 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 2 follicles, 15mil post-wash) = BFN
    October 2014: IUI#4 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 1-2 follicles, 12mil post-wash) = BFN
    November 2014: IUI#5 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel: 1 follicle, 23mil post-wash) = BFN
    December 2014: IUI#6 (gonal-f/ovidrel): 2 follicles, 55mil post-wash) = ???

    *all are welcome!*

  • Please excuse this "could I be pregnant?" post but I'm just wondering what you would think. I tested out my trigger. Yesterday was the first day I got a negative. Today, at 9dpo, I got another positive. These were all on wodfos. So I stuck a frer in the same pee I got the positive from. It was negative. I'm cautiously optimistic but those wondfo have effed me before. I guess I'll see in the morning. Just had to get it off my chest!

  • @AnnaClaire256 please add me. *warning baby mentioned, not mine* This is IUI cycle #5. I just finished clomid and going in for an ultrasound 11/9. I'm currently on a trip with my wife to visit our newborn niece, it's been emotionally trying, especially with the clomid. Reading this board has been a life saver, thank you!
  • It was 10000 units. So about 10 days to be gone. Today is 11 days past trigger. So it is close.

  • @curve31 All of my fingers and toes are crossed that this is it. I know that this cycle has been a bit rough for you, so I want to send some lucky vibes and big hugs! Let us know how it goes.
