how necessary would you say it is to have witch hazel pads? does it really speed up the healing time? where do I find these? (are they in a special aisle or are they with the period pads?) or would you just buy regular pads and pour your own witch hazel on top?
Re: Tucks/Witch Hazel pads
They are only available online, right?

oh so they are just really thin pads, not meant to absorb blood?
Yeah, they are just thin round pads. Kind of the same size has like a noxema or oxyclean pad if you've ever seen those. Paperthin. They do not absorb blood at all.
Edit: Not oxyclean lol, oxy something, you ladies know what I'm talking about?
Loved the Tucks postpartum! They are so soothing.
I sent my DH to get more at Target and he brought home the Up&Up Target brand and we kept them in the fridge. So worth trying.

I remember thinking that the first time too.
They're actually made for hemorrhoids so I think they're by the hemorrhoid stuff in any drug store/grocery store etc. They were really nice especially once you hit the itchy/burny phase (with my stitches).
The hospital gave me a whole tub of these as we were leaving with my NB at the time....I think I used one. I didn't need them so I will not be purchasing them for the next baby....
But I did love the pads they gave me at the hospital that had been in the freezer...or they are squeeze and freeze activated.
i'm not going to lie ... it's not pleasant. at least, it wasn't for me. i've had friends who say otherwise (i'm sure there's always exceptions). i wasn't prepared for the afterbirth stuff at all!

I know not everyone liked it but I really liked the ice packs/pads they gave you in the hospital right after I gave birth. It was one of the only things that seemed to numb/cool the area and make it tolerable for awhile.
I saw a pin on pinterest (but didn't pin it b/c I'll have a c-section) of a lady who made her own postpartum pads. She poured witch hazel and aloe vera on an always pad and put them in the freezer so she had them when she got home from the hospital. The hospital usually gives you what you need but this would be AWESOME for when you get home. Of course I tried to find the link/pin and couldn't.
Here is a link of a similar recipe but it's not the original one I came across:
