Update !

Yesterday I had my 20 week ultrasound, everything went amazing they told me the baby was healthy and everything looked great. I just received a phone call today saying that my placenta is thicker than they'd like and that it seems to be leaking blood. They are going to have a specialist call me back to set up an appointment and I'm sitting here balling my eyes out at work. Is this common? I'm a ftm and freaking out

So sorry for the news they gave you. I know it's easier said then done, but please try not to stress yourself out. You don't need the extra worry right now. Hopefully they caught it early and can work with you to help keep you and baby healthy

Sorry for the news- I know it can be shocking!

I was recently confirmed (today!) to have marginal placenta previa, which isn't thickness but is the placenta sitting too close to the cervix in between baby and cervix. Point being, this too causes blood loss.

Basically, if the baby is fine they'll monitor you closely, you'll get an ultrasound every 4 weeks until it either resolves, or you give birth and the birth will likely be a C-section since they don't want the placenta interfering in baby's delivery. (or at least that's what my prognosis was).

I'd imagine they'd be similar, but am no medical expert. Don't stress out too badly! The important thing is that baby is a-ok, and there's so much medical knowledge and help for issues that aren't the baby itself.

I didn't have the same problem with my first pregnancy. But I had a similar experience with going to the ultrasound, thinking everything was great then getting a phone call a few days later. In our case it was a two vessel cord which could have been an indicator of many other issues with the baby. We had to wait like 2 weeks for more blood tests & ultrasounds, but it turned out to be fine. They just had to monitor me with ultrasounds once a month. Hopefully yours will turn out the same way, try not to worry!
