Infant potty training?

So when I first heard about this I thought it was weird but my mom said as soon as I could sit up she put me on the potty and I was potty trained pretty young so I thought well why not. After nap this week I started putting her on and she would actually pee so I made a big deal about it then one time she went both. I was shocked! Ever since she had been going both. Like poo 6 times. It's a little each time but I think the position is actually helping her. She still of course goes in her diaper and that's fine but I just can't believe how well she's doing and she smiles when we go in there. I know I'm probably crazy but hey maybe it will just become the norm and won't be a battle. Has anyone else tried this? Sorry if there are typos it's hard texting and rocking :)

    We do started doing this for when she poops. Basically I grab a puppy pad and hold her over it while she poops. Eventually I'll start doing this for when she pees, too. This was done with one of my nephews, he was potty trained by the time he was 14 months.

    If I mention this I get looked at like I'm crazy, but whatever. If it works it works, if it doesn't well I avoided exploding diapers.

    My only worry would be them possibly getting constipated trying it at this age. During the night most babies go pee from having eaten prior to bed. I wouldn't want dd thinking she had to hold it if she wasn't over a toilet. Idk guess like @NorthernGal248‌ said, if it works it works. I personally think we will start trying around 1-1.5 years old.

    @Chevygrrl91‌ we use a little potty.
    We just put her on it after naps. She's usually always dry so I figured she probably has to go and she does usually. She still uses her diaper and hasn't thought she has to hold it because I still get wye diapers. I just go off her signs for poo like grunting. I mostly tried it then because I thought it would help her go being able to push down and it has. Like I said I know it sounds crazy I thought so too but it's working for us and she loves sitting on it. A friend of mine has been doing this and her LO is not even 1 and just goes to the toilet. She will be 1 next month.

    We started putting ds on at around 3 months. We made it routine at 4 months so every change equaled a sit on the potty. By about 4.5 almost 5 months we started getting success. He now pees at every sitting and poops on it daily. I've cleaned maybe 5 poopy diapers in a month.

    He grunts when he needs to poop. That's how he tells us. Pees are hit and miss. He will become really fussy if he's wet. Took a us a while to read the signs but we have a good groove going.

    We plan on going into underwear in a month or two. When I notice diapers are staying dry.

    So yep it's possible :) we use a baby bjorn with the high back. He loves sitting on it!

    I'm still figuring out how to tend to this when out and about. I bought another potty for the car so have to give that and whirl at some point.

    My grandmother did this with me when I was about 6 months and I ended up being potty trained early. I don't plan on trying it with my LO, though.

    @usernewname‌ that's great! I haven't thought about our and about yet. Might have to get another one too. Today when she had to go she looked at me and her eyes got big. Then she peed in the potty so I'll have to see if that's a norm. She loves it so far.

    I haven't even thought about potty training yet. Whatever floats your boat but I'm in no rush. I'll probably wait until he's closer to 2.

    I enjoy not washing so many diapers. He will be fully trained when it happens.

    Also a chunky baby giggling and laughing on the potty while kicking the sides to his own beat is super duper cute.

    I agree it has been a lot of fun watching her reaction and seeing her smile about it! Also the snuggles I get on there. She will lean forward and hold me for comfort since pooping is hard work lol but I know it's not for everyone. Just think it's neat she's capable and enjoys it.

    Prior to this thread, I had never heard of this except from my grandmother who always claimed that my mom was potty trained by 9 months (she had another baby on the way so she thought it was a necessity).   It's even recorded in my mom's baby book that she was in big girl panties at 9 months.    Now I know she wasn't crazy!

    1st BFP-8/17/12!  Missed Miscarriage discovered @ 8 week US.  D&C.
    2nd BFP-2/13/13!  Blighted Ovum discovered @ 8 week US. Natural miscarriage.
    3rd BFP-5/22/13!  By early June, progesterone plummeting.  Another loss.
    August 2013 - started Donor Egg process, but surprise BFP with my own eggs.

    I never really would've thought about this until this thread. The past week or so DD will only poop if I put her in her bumbo. And it is usually 10:30-11when she poops. So it makes since that she would beable to use a potty. I might have to try this.

    I hear most babies in China are potty trained by 6 months old. The way I see it though, it isn't the kid who is potty trained but the parents! It's really up to you to catch the signs and sit LO on the toilet at the right time. I don't think you could ever pull this off with a baby that goes to daycare. Unfortunately with a toddler to chase after all day I definitely don't have time to try to potty train the baby. Hell I can't even get my almost 2 yo to pee in the toilet.

    Agreed - day care makes it tricky. 

    I don't "run" my baby to the toilet, people who EC probably do. Thats a little much for me. I just sit him when I change his diaper - so every hour to 2 hours. He pees. He still pees in his diaper, life moves on and I change it. I'm sure at some point some bladder strength will happen, then I will do undies.

    That could be in 2 months or a year. When he's ready for the next steps he will show me.

    This. I don't wait around watching for signals unless I can tell she clearly had to poo then I put her on it. Otherwise it's just after nap or when I change her. More for her to get used to the idea. We still get dirty diapers no big deal. But she loves sitting on it and it helps her poo. But I totally get waiting and daycare!

    This is interesting but I don't think it would work for us. DS gives absolutely no signs that he is about to poop/pee and he would happily sit in a dirty diaper all day. We just change him every 1- 2 hours or if we hear or smell a poop. He did have a pretty epic blowout in the exersaucer the other day. Imagine little feet bouncing up and down in a puddle of poo - would've been nice to avoid that!

    I don't see it as potty training. If he soils his diaper I don't care. He's a baby. He has very little control. I just sit him on the potty as routine and to get used to it. He has success. I know he has no idea what he is doing. I think he has just figured that some form of relief comes from using it - peeing and pooping.

    He's still my little guy rocking cute fluff. And he also looks super cute sitting on the potty.

    Those who EC though are potty training as they make a noise to conditionally train their child to pee or poop based on a sound. That's a whole different ball game to me!

    What pp said...She still gets to be a baby we just sit her on the potty. She was getting really constipated and I've found that this really helps her go so it works for us and doesn't take anything away from enjoying her at the age she is. She always smiles when we go in the bathroom now and even turns her head toward her potty while smiling especially if she has to poo. I am just glad we found something that helps her go instead of her being backed up all the time. That's mostly why I started it. Figured if I'm changing her anyway then might as well sit her on there and see what happens. She is also my only child so probably a lot easier.

    This isn't something that we are even interested in at this point, but more power to you. Now it is all making sense why my grandmother used to tell my mother she had her babies potty trained at like 6 months..hmmm...;)

    I kind of like when the kids are in diapers. As opposed to stopping every two seconds for a bathroom on road trips, worrying the car seat is going to be peed in, visiting the bathroom in every place we go at least once, fighting with a kid to just sit on the potty before we leave, etc. I'm in no rush to get to that point. Heck, I should revert back to diapers myself!

    @Chevygrrl91‌ I'm sure she will love that :) we just got one of her dimple butt looking into the tub lol. Yesterday she went poo a couple times in hers and I've started to figure out why she gets so upset trying to go to sleep for naps sometimes. She will be so tired but have to go and can't so yesterday I was like what is your deal? I took her in sat her down and she went then took a nap. I'm wondering if that's why she is getting up at 3 every morning. She has to go and can't. Worth a try since I'm up anyway.

    Yeah, i don't even want to use a potty. Thinking of going straight to the toilet with an additional toddler seat so we'll be waiting until DS is big enough for that

    Ha! @mary97‌ , this is us too. I think she doesn't like the feel of it wet against her skin, but if she has to wait a few minutes for a change (like if I'm in the shower or we're in the car), she actually settles before I change her. The miracle of modern diapers...
