There is a Facebook group called BRAS - Breastfeeding Resources and Support. I'm a FTM and my best friend recommended it. I posted my first question yesterday and got over 40 comments - super helpful and highly recommended.
@morgan1095 - I haven't read all of the responses, but my best advice is that if you are interested at all in breastfeeding, you should give it a try. Take a breastfeeding class, talk to friends & family who have successful breastfeeding stories, and familiarize yourself with the lactation consultants that you will be using (most likely the ones through the hospital you'll be delivering at). The thing about breast feeding is that you can try it and decide if it's what's best for you and your baby. If not, then you can choose to pump or feed your baby with formula. What's most important is that your baby is healthy and thriving. If you're wishy-washy about it and go back and forth between breast feeding and formula, you take the risk of diminishing or losing your supply, so you really do need to give it a solid try from the beginning if that's what you are really wanting. I'm a big advocate of breast feeding, but I know that it isn't for everyone for a lot of different reasons. If you're looking for someone with personal experience, feel free to PM me.
As for the weight loss, I was one of the unlucky ones who kept on the weight until I was done breast feeding. That part sucked, but I made the decision that breast feeding was a lot more important to me than being thin- so I just dealt with being chubby for a year.
I tried to breastfeed my second child and a midnight nurse made a really nasty comment and ruined it for me. Please please please don't let anyone do that to you
I'm sure this response is too late to be any help, but I did both, breast and bottle. I didn't make enough milk to exclusively bf but I really wanted to so I bf on each breast with a supplementation device, then when my lo was 2 months I bf then gave a bottle. I had to quit at 6 months due to medical issues. But I'm so glad that I did what I did.
That being said as long as baby is getting food, don't sweat it! A good mama feeds her baby and does what's best for HER family.
I don't know what I'm going to do this time either. I loved bfing but having to do both was VERY taxing. My thought is I will try to bf and if it works great! If not I'll bf and supplement until it becomes too much, and who knows when that will be (one day, one week, one year). As I said I'm not too worried bc I'm going to feed my little guy so I know he will be just fine no matter how he's fed.
