Re: Are you shopping for LO already??

  • @sugahcookie01 -- Nice!!!

So far I know only MIL and my mum have bought something for the LO. They both got clothes; I love the ones my mum got but secretly am not pleased with what my MIL got. She bought some 12 mos boys clothes that were on clearance, she said she'll send them to us as Christmas gifts. DH made a comment to me that they don't look cute. I feel like such an ungrateful asshole just thinking that and so I have not said anything to her or DH, only "how nice of you, we'll be sure to get pictures of LO in them when they fit him".

12 mos clothing seems to mean I'm going to be holding onto those for a whole year, taking up space for so long. Maybe I'm in the minority here, I really would rather get the small 0-3 months clothes as gifts than the larger sizes. But it is the thought that counts, so I shall accept with a smile and send back a thank you card when I get them.

p.s. My MIL has a history of giving the worst "gifts". Last christmas she gave me a spatula that looked like she's had in her drawer for a number of years and a microfiber cloth that was bought on clearance (the sticker said so), my DH got a size XXL sweater that she apparently bought for him in his teenage years (he never wore it back then cos it was wayyyy too big, he wears M or L). So I have enough training in saying thanks with a smile and conveniently losing her "gifts".

  • I hear you @musicgirl524 and @foxslaw‌ about budgets! This is a weird situation for us, being that LO is my 3rd but my DH 1st (and first among his
Many friends and first in his family).

My kids are quite a bit older so I have only a handful of their old blankets and a hat or two. I don't expect a shower from any of my friends since is not my first, but DH works for a large hospital and knows EVERYONE (and everyone loves him, therefore, possibilities of people wanting to gift things or hand tings down is big), so we have a registry that we are shopping from ourselves. I feel like I should expect to provide every last thing for ourselves, but will readily accept anything offered!

We don't have a shower planned, though a couple of different people have mentioned it awhile ago, so we are just spreading out the expense already. If I see something at a resale shop (which is an amazing shop and I frequent it to see what they have), I get it. If its a super good deal, I get it. I've been given some great things from my friend, and a couple of other friends have promised some items. My IL are getting us the infant carrier/carseat, my dad and his wife are getting us the glider, but other than that, we will buy the furniture. I know my mom wants to do something, I just don't know what. My 16 yo sister just had a baby in September and my mom got her the travel system, but I haven't asked her about it.

Having said the thing about my 16 yo old sister just having a baby, the shower thing is a bit touchy for me. She and her BF got pregnant ON PURPOSE, and all sorts of people are buying her stuff. Seems to me like it's rewarding her for her choice, but I digress.
  • These threads always make me anxious for everything I haven't done. We're moving out of state on Thursday, so we literally have nothing. Once I get unpacked, find a new midwife, and find a day care (plus house projects like refinish hardwoods, get new carpet, etc), I figure that will take me up to the holidays (read: no time). So I probably won't START the nursery and shopping until January.

But I'm with @sugahcookie, how long can it really take? Am I naive to think I can take our registry completion discounts and get everything we need yet in like, a weekend? And how long can it take to put everything away and wash clothes? I have been working on my registry, so it just doesn't seem that difficult.

  • I feel really lucky cuz one GF gave me her daughters Stokke Sleepi Crib, her bugaboo chameleon stroller, the matching changing table, some fancy bouncy chair, one Moby and another sling type carrier so that took a lot of things off the list pretty quickly. My dad bought us the most amazing glider from Land if Nod that I never would have spent the money on, so that's done. I also just found the infant car seat that fits our stroller for $45 gently used!!
My mom and I have both gone a little crazy with the clothes, baby girl clothes are unreasonably cute, but they've all been resale clothes at this point.
On my registry I still have hopes of getting my high chair, convertable car seat, lots of our cloth diapers, play mat, and breast pump, bottles, etc. and all the little baby care things. We shall see what happens. Of course none of our stuff is set up and I don't have the nursery even painted yet
