I despise wasting food but I am so weird when it comes to leftovers, I usually will eat them the day after but more than that & Im leery. The MayoClinic says 3-4 days with proper storage. My husband pushes it too far (5-7 days).

  • I see I see said the blind man. Ignore my comment on the other post.

    I give leftovers a week.

  • I'll give it up to a week.  If it can be put into single serve freezer ziplocks and tossed in the freezer before that I'll do that too.  DH has an iron stomach and will push it past 7 days, but I won't touch it.

  • Anything seafood or something i brought home from a restaurant : 2 days

Something i cooked leftover? 6 days from the date of the oldest ingredient. Like say i used leftover roast to make a pot pie or beef stew i go by the date i made the roast not the pot pie.

Its usually eaten, frozen or used to make something else before that.

  • Depends on what it is.. usually not more than a week just because we tend to go through leftovers fairly quickly, but if it's still in good shape, I don't automatically toss something just because it's past 7 days.  *shrug*

  • I don't eat meat. So I think that helps me extend meals for longer. I picked 4-7 days.

Here's how I do meals for the week: on Sunday, I make one meal, usually the more time intensive recipe of the two I picked for the week. I make enough of this meal to last for 3 nights (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday). On Sunday, I'll also prep the second meal if I have time and think I need to. On Monday I'll make the second meal. We will eat this meal on Monday, Wednesday, and sometimes Saturday. On Fridays we make or order pizza. And sometimes we go out on Saturdays. I've mastered this method by selecting meals that reheat (oven or stovetop only; no microwave) really well. If it doesn't reheat well, I won't make it again.

Tonight we are having pumpkin ravioli in a brown butter sauce. I made this ravioli from scratch on Sunday. I froze the other two portions so they just need to be boiled. And the sauce will be made fresh. Takes 5 mins. So super easy.

  • I voted 3 days because the leftovers usually don't last too long. But would push it longer depending on what it is.

  • Ewww. Leftovers are gross. I let DH decide how long he wants to keep/eat them.
  • No more than 2 days... I never used to eat leftovers so 2 days is a stretch for me
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I don't love leftovers. How long I'll eat it depends on what it is, but 1-3 days usually.
  • I don't tend to eat anything over 2 days old.  If it's seafood, I wouldn't keep it as leftovers. I also hate to eat the same thing 2 days in a row, so most of the time, leftover would be consumed by DH, he would eat them up to 3 days in the fridge.

  • I'll only eat it one day past....but it'll sit in my fridge for at least a week....
  • I hate leftovers. There are only a handful of items I will eat as leftovers--the rest I pawn off on DH.

    This. Leftovers are just nms.

  • We usually try to "plan" to eat them within 2-3 days but then there's the random scoop of mashed potatoes that DH tries to suggest we eat like a week later and I say no.

  • I hate leftovers, but when I do eat them I eat my meats pretty quickly and pasta (baked ziti, usually) within 4 days. Anything we don't think we will go through quickly, we vacuum seal and freeze.

  • I normally don't like left overs but there's a couple I'll eat. If we go to my favorite burger place I'll eat it the next day but no further and I'll eat pizza a couple days after. I never bring seafood home with me.
  • I will usually go 2-3 days, so I picked 3. DH would go over 7 if I let him though. I'm also picky about how long things are left out @stephanie2378- especially if it has and dairy in it.

DH once accidentally left chicken pot pie out OVERNIGHT (I left it out to cool and he offered put it away before heading to bed).

I wouldn't touch it. He ate on it for days.

  • Man, lots of leftover haters up in here! My mom used to make awesome casseroles that served twice as many people than necessary, and I've taken up that mantle... So if it's something I love, I will actually get excited about eating it for lunch the next day instead of a sandwich.

Good ones tend to get eaten within 3 days, but a week is my ultimate cutoff.

  • Things I cook, max a week, if there is meat involved Ill start the sniff test around day 5.

    Restaurant food, 3 days max.

DH will really push it, I have seen him eat leftover taco meat or something like that 10 days or so later (if I forget to throw it out first).... Gross!

Longest I go is probably two days. We usually dont have left overs at my house because dh is constantly eating them all before even a one day mark.
