For anyone struggling with tummy time...

I read a tip to lay baby on an inflatable ball (like a yoga ball or large beach ball - mine is 55 cm), rather than the floor. The slight curve of the ball helps them really lift their head and chest. A few days of this for mere minutes, and now DS can lift his chest and support his weight on the floor as well. Total game changer!

  • Another tip is if you are still on the floor, if you pin their hips down for them, they can get their heads and chest up better. Some can't figure out how to anchor their hips to lift up. So this is a huge help as well.

  • My LO likes tummy time on the boppy. Or we carry him in the "superman" way (we just make sure our hand is up far enough to catch his chin when his head gets too heavy).
  • We nurse reclined almost all the time. It's also a great way to get tummy time in. LO isn't fussy about TT when he's eating.
  • Another thing that really helps us is a rolled up hand towel or receiving blanket to put under his chest. He keeps his head up for the entire 5 min now.

  • The tips I've seen here and other bump threads have made a huge difference for us! I had just stopped doing tt because I was tired of the screaming but then we tried with the boppy and it worked great. He also likes doing airplane on my shines. We've also tried the rolly polly game. I would never have thought of that! Thank you!
  • What's the rolly polly game? I'll have to try the ball. The boppy is a no go still.
