c-section or Vag !!!

I had a c-section with my DD so I am having a c-section this time as well. How many other c-section mommies are in this group? Do you think a c-section is better or worse than vag delivery?

I'm having a c-section, I just had an emergency one in May. I think this time will be better because I won't have to go through labor for almost 24 hours and then have to get a c-section after that. It's also kinda cool to be able to schedule when you will have your baby and not have to wait to go into labor. So since it's the only thing I know I think it's better.
I actually had a friend who had a baby 2 weeks after me vaginaly and it took her longer to heal her stitches than it took me to start to feel better.

I think it depends onnthe person. I have had both and i would never choose a section again if i had a choice. I healed much quicker from my vaginal deliveries and just felt better afterwards.
I also know people who have experienced the opposite though.

@mommydlc‌ I think so to I was in labor like 14hrs only dilated 4cm and didnt go anywhere plus my EPI didnt take I felt everything. They had to put me to sleep for my c-section thats the only thing that concerns me this time. I wonder will I have to be sleep because the EPI or spinal block wont work on me.

I had a c-section with my son, but I'm attempting a VBAC this time. My doctor said at my yearly exam that she wouldn't have any problem letting me attempt a VBAC. I'm also going to try going med free as long as possible - hopefully the entire time!!

I am hoping for and attempting a vbac. My csection was not bad and recovery was ok but I would like to avoid it if possible.

I had an emergent c-section with DD in 2006, after 24 hours of labor I was not progressing past 5 cm and her heart rate was having some concerning decels. With DS I had a scheduled c-section in 2011, it was easy peasy! This time around I know I will have to have a c-section due to bleeding complications and a possible bladder injury and to be honest the thought of a vaginal delivery scares the crap out of me! I am hoping to go into labor naturally then have the section... just because I would like something to be natural!

I had a c/s after pushing 3.5 hrs with my dd, and a vbac with my ds. I *thought* my c/s recovery was fine until I had a vbac. The difference was night and day. My vbac was the best experience of my life. I highly recommend educating yourself on vbac, and the fact that ACOG recommends vbac or at least a trial of labor for most previous c/s women.

I had a vag delivery but it was border line c-section because my son's heart rate kept slowing with each contraction. I think when c-sections take place it is really out of our hands and is what's best for baby and mom at the time.

Attempting VBAC. I'm a good candidate since I only had a section due to my breech baby. My section went well. Recovery was tough for the first week or two, but I got through it. I do think it (a csection) would be a lot more difficult this time since I will have a 3 year old to take care of too, and stairs in my house (didn't have stairs in our apartment for DD). I couldn't do anything for that first week. We shall see. I am very open minded and will do whatever I need to. I could have another breech baby, who knows!

I believe (and research shows) a vaginal delivery has a lower chance of complications for both mom and baby. Saying that, I had a c-section with my first and I go back and forth between a vbac or repeat c-section. My c section was for fetal heart rate abnormalities and there will be more than 2 years between deliveries so I know I am an ideal candidate for a vbac but I am having a hard time commiting to it.

I have to weigh in and say .... I am a labor and delivery/OB nurse. I've seen both go well and both go extremely horrible..... I am just as scared for either! I need some reassurance.... Sad that it's my job and I still do! I think I've just seen too much!!!!!!

As a labor & birth nurse there are inherent risks with any childbirth. However just keep in mind a c-section is MAJOR abdominal surgery, and with each subsequent section your risk of complications greatly increases. If you are considering having more children, really do your research on VBAC to see if your hospital and dr offer it.

I am also an L+D nurse and it is completely different when you are the patient. As they were prepping me for a stat section I was shaking and so scared even though I knew my team and had full trust in their abilities to keep me and baby safe. I read a lot of positive birth stories and went in with the mindset that at the end of the day I wanted a healthy baby in my arms. Focus on the positive and remember the negative is way, way less likely

I am completely aware that it's a major abdominal surgery! I've also seen 4th degree tears just as bad! I was just sharing that I'm terrified of either !!!

I have had 3 vaginal births and my sister has had 2 c-sections. I know we are two different people but her recovery time was much longer than mine, at least two weeks both times. I was up and walking around in an hour or two after my deliveries. I guess it really depends on the person. But I am scared to death of c-sections and hope I never have to get one.

I am having a c-section because I have a chronic illness that may inhibit my ability to push during labor. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've had abdominal surgery before, so I'm prepared for many of the aspects of recovery that surprised my friends who had c-sections. Also, I was leaning towards a c-section anyway because I worked for a huge medical malpractice law firm for 3 years and almost all our infant cases resulted from errors during vaginal birth. But that's just me...my best friend had two perfect vaginal births with beautiful, healthy babies! I really think everyone needs to pick the option that stresses her the least.

I had to have a stat emergency c section with my son after a nst showed that he was having very long decels (I hadnt felt him move all day). I turns out his cord was around his neck twice and the cord was tangled around his leg too. They said if I didnt come in that day, things would have probably been much different. Scary to think about but my c-section saved my son's life.

That being said, I am hoping to try for a vbac. My dr said I am a perfect candidate since I never labored and the c-section was not a result of an issue with my body. I am trying to just be positive with whatever the outcome. My son's birth was such a quick emergency that my H didn't make 0 in time so I figure just having him there will make it way better than last time!

Had an unplanned c-section after my water broke, labour didn't start and failed induction/failure to progress past 6cm (totalling 32hrs). I've decided to try a VBAC this time since my dr thinks I'm a good candidate and after looking at the research on health outcomes for mum and baby. My c-section recovery wasn't bad but I think it would be tougher as a SAHM with a 2 1/2yr old who is glued to my hip (The thought of not being able to pick him up for 4-6weeks makes me sad). That beig said if I end up with a repeat c-section c'est la vie!

Hoping for TOLA3C if baby and I are both doing well by 41 wks... a really long time from now. Not getting my heart set on anything other than healthy baby and healthy me, and making sure DH and my doula can be in the OR with me if it comes to that.

Definitely. DH has been there for all 3 so far, but of course he goes with the baby while I get closed up. With my 3rd, the only time I've had a doula so far, I lobbied to get her in the OR too, to stay with me the entire time. Her emotional support was HUGE. I recovered from that C much better than the first two. Knowing that now, I'm going to lock that up in advance, so it won't be a question on the day of, whether she can or can't be in there.

I have to say though, regardless of what I want or think or see at work daily, I have complete trust in my doctors and if they are telling me I need a section I'm not going to wait and see. My baby's health far outweighs my thoughts on surgery or recovery etc. Best of luck to you all for healthy babies and phenomenal deliveries (regardless of how baby comes into the world!!)

Trying for a VBAC. I've been researching since I delivered my 13 month old. For me it was a horrible experience and I missed bonding with my daughter for the first 3 days of her life. I would like to avoid major surgery again if possible. I had a friend who had a successful VBAC and she said it was the most empowering experience of her life. That's my inspiration.

Never had a c-section, but did have a natural birth. Like anything there's advantages and disadvantages to both.

I can't have a spinal or an epidural due to a previous spinal surgery, so if I were to have a c-section I'd have to be completely put under. If I carry a baby for 9 months I want to see him or her be born---so I basically prayed and did everything I could to prevent having to go that route (including pushing for over 2.5 hours!)

But I agree with PPs--health of the baby and mama comes first. Regardless of how your baby is born it's an amazing experience.

I don't know what I'll do. I had a c-section with my son because he was too big for me and his face was turned up. If this baby is estimated at weighing approximately the same, I'll probably choose a c-section. I'll have to talk to my doctor about it though.

I Labored for 24 hrs with my son, started spiking temps and had to go for emergent csection. DH was with me the whole time. As an icu nurse I felt in control during labor and completely out of control during the section.. however after the section my baby was given right to me and never left my side. I was out of bed in two hours and felt great the next day. My discharge doc was an np so she coulsnt write a script for pain meds which I never ended up needing.. I was so disappointed in myself because I wanted everything to go natural but I believe God has a reason for everything. The surgical assistant came in after I was up and told me the way the cord was on my son it wouldve been emergent anyways.. but my son's heart rate never was in trouble because I hadnt advanced far enough yet. I was debating cs vs vbac this time.. but was told yesterday by my doc that the hospital I have to deliver at doesnt do vbacs.. I am afraid of elective surgeries being an icu nursr and seeing alot go wrong but there is a risk in everything we do.. im not 100% decided yet.

I have yet to discuss labor and delivery with my OB for this pregnancy. I'm fine with whatever she recommends. I had a c-section last time after two days of failed induction (~44 hrs of off and on Pitocin), never progressing past 3 cm.
I had some bleeding issues during surgery due to my body not reacting to the Pitocin they give you to help your uterus contract in the OR, but otherwise had a smooth experience. I was cleared at 3 weeks PP for all normal activity and overall felt great, minus the non-sleeping newborn part.

I was induced due to gestational diabetes. I think delivery options will hinge on if I have GD again (want baby delivered by 40 weeks and won't induce for VBAC).

I'm hoping for a planned C this time. I had an emergency C with DD, and am kind of looking at it as the devil you know.

I realize it is a major surgery but I recovered extremely well with DD, much better than some friends who had their babies "naturally".

Plus, I had pre-e and DD was huge and sideways and the best they could do was get her turned face up and she has a permanent mark on her forehead from getting jammed in my pelvis when I was pushing. So. Yeah. Not interested in trying that again, although the delivering doctor said I was an awesome pusher lol

I knew going in I'd need a scheduled c-section. I have Crohn's disease and had major rectal surgery in 2003 that greatly improved my quality of life (though I still have a little scar tissue). That surgeon did such an awesome job, all my doctors agreed that we shouldn't risk destroying it with the possibility of a tear. I know everything carries the risk of complications, but when I think of what my life was like from 2001 until I had the surgery, I'd do anything to avoid that again.

Thank you ladies. You all are really great and I truly love all your stories. For the women who have at regular c-sections how does it feel to be up Through the process. I heard that you feel the pressure and you have to remember to breath. I was under for mine so I dont know how that works.
