Restless legs?

Anyone else having this problem? I have only been able to sleep a couple of hours each night the last week or so before I wake up and can't go back to sleep. I felt like I'm constantly having to stretch and move my legs and it is absolutely the most annoying feeling in the world!

Re: Restless legs?

  • Ugh I'm sorry! I haven't had restless legs with this pregnancy but I've experienced it before and it really is the worst. I know that it's nearly impossible to fall asleep when you have that horribly annoying sensation in your legs. I'm sorry I don't have a solution, I just wanted you to know that I feel for you. :(

  • YES! Mine eases up with making sure I'm getting plenty of both iron and folic acid in my diet and drinking tons of water. Hits every night around 1-2am and can last for hours!
  • I can't eat or drink anything with sugar or caffeine before bed and I also wear my compression running socks while sleeping and that has helped me. Hope you find relief soon!

  • YES!  I have RLS even when NOT pregnant, and it's kinda magnified when I am. Especially when I'm stuck in bed. Try bananas and see if that helps. Also, a warm bath a bit before bed can help relieve mine a bit so they're not as jumpy.

  • Yes, I have to stop eating or drinking anything like an hr or 2 before bed n I've noticed it helps...
  • Thank you for your advice ladies! I've gotta try something. I'm exhausted because I'm getting no sleep :(( It starts between 12 and 1, and I was awake for four hours last night before I could fall back asleep! It really is the worst.
  • I have restless legs every night, it is horribly frustrating! Sometimes a glass of milk helps. Sometimes I put Vicks on the back of my knees, I don't think it really does anything but forces me to relax enough to fall back asleep. Warm shower, bananas, and Tylenol sometimes help. It doesn't seem like anything ever works everytime! So frustrating!
  • I have had RLS my whole life.  The only things that have ever helped me are sleep meds (prescription when not pregnant) Unisom right now and getting up, stretching and cracking my back, toes, ankles, etc whenever they start acting up.  They are super annoying!  Hope you can find some relief.
  • I've been dealing with this, I think it's triggered by my anemia. Wrapping a heating pad around my legs helped.

  • I get it most nights. Like a PPer said, I find a bath helps. Otherwise, I'm just doing my best to shake it off and ignore it. :-S
  • I also get it almost every night! I'm tempted to wake my husband one night and have him rub my legs!  It also happened when I was pregnant with my daughter.  Baths helped but other than that nothing seemed to.  Another joy of pregnancy!  The good news is it will pass eventually.
  • Yes!  I've been having this almost every night for the past week.  It's very annoying.  I've tried a warm bath, tylenol, and propping up my legs but nothing seems to help :(
  • I get this while pregnant too. My dr's have recommended calcium/magnesium/zinc (it's one pill) and it really helps! Hope you get some relief soon. It is miserable. :(
  • Yes, I got it before pregnancy but it's worse now. I have a powdered magnesium supplement called "natural calm" you add to water, it helps, but too much makes you run for the toilet! I also agree with cutting out sugar a couple of hours before bed.

Have him give your legs a massage before bed- it can really help :)

  • I've had RLS for several years, but I will have periods where it is bad and then it won't bother me at all for awhile. It has gotten bad since I've been pregnant. My OB said I could try taking magnesium, but she wasn't sure how much it would help. Leg massages do help like @MusicFanatic said.

    Hopefully it passes.
