Long over due and I wasn't sure I was going to write one but I figure I may as well since I wrote one for DD...can't start playing favorites already!
Monday the 13th I woke up at 6:30 like normal to get ready for work and when I went to the bathroom. Cue the freak out when there was bright red blood with what looked like clots. I called the doctor to see what I should do and she said to come into the hospital for a NST and to check on the baby. So I started worrying a little because I wasn't feeling her move too much - DH had to remind me that she was never very active in the mornings. Until this time I hadn't had a single contraction. I woke up DH and got him moving (slowly) and called DD's daycare to let them know she was coming early. We finally rolled out of the house around 8:15 and contractions had just started but were short and pretty far apart (8-12 minutes).
We got to the hospital around 9:00 and when we checked in they asked if I was in labor and I answered with "I don't know!" So they get me in and I go up to L&D, they start the NST and contractions are closer but still not lasting long. I told the nurse I wanted to go home after the NST and not be induced. When I arrived I was 1cm and 50% with baby still high. 25 minutes into the 30 minute NST (right about 9:45) my water broke. Nurse walks in and says "I guess you aren't going home!" Nope, not without a baby!
So I was fully admitted and everything got started. For the first two hours it was fine, but then right around noon contractions became so painful I was crying and yelling a little bit to get through them. Nurse ordered the epidural and it took almost an hour to get it because of some missing blood work. Because I couldn't calm down through the contractions to get the epi placed I got a triple shot of drugs in a short time - first I got dilauded in my IV (heaven) so I could calm down enough to place the epi, then the doc gave me a "booster" to help before the epi took effect, then the epi took effect...seriously, I was stoned! but all the pain was gone and I was able to relax. Epi went in a 1:00 and I was at 6 cm. By 3:00 I was at 10 and Brooke's head was basically coming out on its own.
Doctor came in for a practice push and immediately told me to stop because she needed to get a gown. Three contractions later Brooke was out and in my arms. She was perfect, her APGARs were 9/9 and she was just beautiful. I have no complaints at all about how everything went and the best part is that she latched so easily (DD never did). 11 days later she is still nursing like a champ and is above her birth weight so all is going well.
And now that we are getting on a bit of a schedule I have some more time to keep up with TB.
