Second Timers Plus and Braxton Hicks Contractions

Just wondering if any other moms not on their 1st pregnancy have noticed feeling the BHCs earlier than the first time. I have them every now and again already, which is much earlier than I did with DD1. I'm really not looking forward to three more months of the squeeze.

  • I never really had much in the way for BH with any of my pregnancies.  My midwife finds this really bizarre since I have extremely fast labours.

I feel like there's a "luck of the draw" component to when they arrive and how intense they are....

  • I'm no help either I'm afraid - I never noticed bh either time. But my labor was 37 hrs with pitocin with DS....sooooooo yeah I wish I had bh. :-S

I've heard though they are worse each subsequent pregnancy though. Hope you find some relief!

  • This is baby #10 for me and yeah I feel like they come earlier every time. Last time I ended up going to the hospital twice with false labor because of them. It was awfully embarrassing. Like I'm supposed to be this expert or something. Lol. Since I don't have fast labors I don't think I'll go to the hospital unless I feel like I am ready to push this time. :P
  • I hardly noticed them last. But I've just had one that was undeniable. Wow. Took my breath away.

  • Yeah, I don't remember when they started last time, but i feel them this time typically during/after working out, or bending over and lifting things. Not too bad yet.

  • Yep. Started about 22 weeks with this pregnancy. With my 2nd they didn't start until 30 weeks and didn't have them with my first. Also tested for and found to be anemic at my 24 week appointment and that didn't become an issue until 30 weeks with previous pregnancy also. My OB suggested that my body is preparing earlier with each subsequent pregnancy. LO is measuring right on track at 24 weeks 3 days.
  • @digwriter‌ yes. Damn braxton hicks. And having them AND a full bladder and trying to climb stairs is tough. Damn braxton hicks.
  • With my first I didn't know I was having them until I was on monitoring and they were like "did you know/feel that you were having contractions?" So I have no idea when they started but I'm 22 week today and have been getting them a lot this time, now that I know what they are haha

  • Yes, definitely earlier each time.

I have been having a lot of them because I'm sick and the coughing I'm doing is making my body get cranky.  I'm not a fan!

  • Mine started around 20 weeks for my first and also around 20 weeks for this pregnancy.  I have them a lot, both pregnancies.  Especially in the evenings when I know it is because I'm tired and so is the baby.  Sometimes I feel it is almost non-stop for several hours.  It is very uncomfortable.  However, I know it is nothing serious, because this is exactly what happened the first time and my baby didn't come until 41 weeks.
  • I had them at 19w, then 11w, now 15w with this baby!

Whoa, that's really early! I'm sorry!
  • I did not have any with my first and have not yet felt any with this pregnancy. After reading these responses, that seems unusual.

  • I started having them much earlier this time around, maybe 17w, whereas I had them starting around 24w with DS.  I've also noticed them more frequently this time.

  • Mine started around 18 weeks. I get a couple almost every day between 11am and 3 pm. I don't think I had them until well after 32 weeks with my first.

  • I really don't recall having them with DD. Honestly. However, I do notice them with this pregnancy. Few weeks now. Sporadic. They seem to come when I am overly emotional or stressed out. I don't know if there is a correlation.
